Moto Z and Moto Z Play: The Mod Squad

Customize and connect with Motorola’s new Moto Z and Moto Z Play unlocked smartphones. As part of the Moto Z family, these 4G LTE devices are compatible with Moto Mods, accessory modules that let you customize your smartphone by snapping them to its magnetic back. With Moto Mods you can turn your smartphone into a projector or an ultra-powerful camera with zoom, or simply add battery life or wireless charging capability.

The Moto Z Play’s 5.5”, 1080p AMOLED display, powered by an octa-core 2.0 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor with 3GB of RAM, is designed for media viewing, gameplay, and more. Its 32GB of onboard storage can be augmented by using the microSD card slot, which accepts microSDXC cards up to 2TB in capacity. Both the front-facing f/2.2 5MP and rear-facing f/2.0 16MP cameras have LED flash built in for use in low light, and the rear camera can capture 4K video at 30fps. The Moto Z Play’s real party piece is its titanic 3510 mAh battery, which should be good for over two days of normal use.

The Moto Z is similar in size to the Z Play in many respects (both are water-resistant, both have integrated fingerprint readers and reversible USB Type-C ports, both run Android Marshmallow), but has a smaller 2600 mAh battery to help it achieve a thickness of only 5.2mm. Its 5.5” AMOLED screen gets a bump to 2560 x 1440 QHD resolution and the processor is a quad-core Snapdragon 820 with two cores running at 2.15 GHz and the other two at 1.6 for efficiency and economy, helped along by an extra gigabyte of RAM. The 13MP rear camera has optical image stabilization and captures 4K HDR video while the front-facing 5MP shooter has flash and extra-large 1.4μ pixels to pick up as much light as possible.

Both devices come in black and will be available soon.
