Samsung Debuts New Galaxy Smartphones at MWC 2018

This week, Samsung unveiled the latest additions to its smartphone family, the highly anticipated Galaxy S9 and S9+. According to Samsung, both phones represent a reimagining of their predecessors—as in, they're essentially the S8 and S8+ "reimagined" with a better camera, faster processor, and some of the most striking color options you've ever seen.

Starting with the upgraded camera setup: Both handsets feature Samsung's new Dual Aperture technology, which, according to Samsung, allows the camera lens to "adapt like the human eye" for high-quality photos regardless of light levels. That's not the only camera upgrade, either. Samsung packed the new Galaxies with a bevy of photo-friendly add-ons, including a new Super Slow-Mo mode and AR Emoji, which transforms your selfie into a digitally augmented sticker (or GIF) to use in chats.

Not quite as flashy as a new camera setup, the body design of the Galaxy was also slightly reimagined, with the most noticeable change being the movement of the fingerprint scanner to a more ergonomic and user-friendly position. Sound quality, too, has been upgraded, thanks to the now-onboard Dolby ATMOS surround sound technology. Battery efficiency has also been improved.

Not everything is reimagined, however. The new Galaxy smartphones retain several fan favorites like the Infinity Display, IP68 waterproof rating, and headphone jack. Body and screen dimensions are nearly identical to the S8 and S8+, but this time they come in four color options: the more traditional Midnight Black and Titanium Gray, and the eye-popping Lilac Purple and Coral Blue.

The new Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ are available for order now at B&H Photo.
