Amped Wireless Launches Long-Range Wi-Fi Repeater

7Share

It may be more expensive than your router, but if you want your wireless network to go the distance, consider the High Power Wireless-N 600mW Pro Smart Repeater from Amped Wireless.

The repeater uses a 600 milliwatt (mW) amplifier and a High Gain bi-directional antenna for extending 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi signals from your wireless router to within a distance of 1.5 miles, according to the manufacturer, Amped Wireless.

While the Smart Repeater can work in large indoor spaces, it can be used outdoors as well, as it is designed to withstand everyday weather. The repeater integrates a Fast Ethernet LAN port and a Power-over-Ethernet port. The Fast Ethernet LAN port allows you to establish a wired connection to an Ethernet-enabled computer while the repeater is powered by the Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) port from the PoE adapter that’s included. The adapter also includes a Fast Ethernet port if you want to establish a wired Internet connection to a nearby Ethernet-enabled computer.

According to Amped Wireless, to achieve a wireless range of up to 1.5 miles it is necessary to use the Pro Smart Repeater in line of sight of other Amped Wireless Pro Series products, such as the High Power Wireless-N 600mW Pro Access Point (AP600EX) and  Wireless-N 600mW Pro USB Adapter. Beyond using other Pro Series products, you could first setup your wireless network with the Amped Wireless High Power Wireless-N 600 mW Smart Router or another router.

Included in the box with the Pro Smart Repeater is a power over Ethernet adapter, 30-foot PoE Ethernet cable (for connecting the adapter to the Repeater), 3-foot Ethernet cable (for providing a LAN network connection to a computer), metal desktop stand, plastic pole strap, metal pole clamp, set-up guide and CD user’s manual. The repeater can be mounted on a desk or flat surface or it can be fastened to a pole outside or indoors. It is backed by a 1-year limited warranty.

What is the best way to extend router signal without being plugged in to a router?  Essentially a wireless repeater.  Which repeater works for very long range?

Hi Rahul -

Unfortunately we do not offer a Wi-Fi repeater or system that meets your range/distance requirements.  This type of range will require tall masting or towers to elevate the antennas above the Fresnel zone.

Please contact us via e-mail if you have additional questions:  [email protected]

Would you recommend buying new or perhaps buying an older model and then use some new firmware?  I'm curious because I need to do a small job for a friend and was wondering rather than going new maybe he could save that money and put it towards some other projects he has.  He's looking to put together a small network in his home and I've read that some people want the new ones just because they are new.  I guess I could always get something refurbished but I'm still not too sure.  Any input?
