Canon has announced a pair of Rebel updates: the Canon EOS Rebel T3 and EOS Rebel T3i. The more basic of the two new cameras is the EOS Rebel T3, which is available as a kit only and includes a Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II zoom lens. The Rebel T3 features a 12.2MP APS-C format (1.6x) CMOS sensor, a DIGIC 4 image processor, and in addition to 3 frame-per-second still capture (up to 830 large JPEGs or 5 RAW) can also record HD video (30p-25p) with in-camera editing options.

The Rebel T3 has an ISO sensitivity range of 100-6400, and for reviewing imagery—or previewing imagery in Live View mode—the EOS Rebel T3 features a 2.7" (230,000-dot) Clear View LCD.

The beefier of the two new Rebels is the Canon EOS Rebel T3i, which contains an 18MP APS-C format (1.6x) CMOS sensor, a DIGIC 4 image processor and the ability to bang out up to 3.7 frames per second (up to approximately 34 JPEG / 6 RAW). In addition to stills, the Rebel T3i can also capture full HD video (30p-24p-25p), HD (60p-50p) and SD video (30p-25p) with full manual exposure control, and a new Movie Digital Zoom  and VideoSnapShot function. The ISO range of the Rebel T3i is 100-6400, and is expandable to ISO 12,800 for shooting under lower light levels.

Other features found on the Rebel T3i include a high-res, swivel-based 3" Clear View LCD (with Live View) containing 1.04-million dots, a new Scene Intelligent Auto mode and a Picture Style Auto mode that incorporates a new EOS Scene Detection System.

The EOS Rebel T3i is available as a body only or as a kit, which includes a Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II zoom lens.

In addition to a new Basic+Function mode, a Quick Setting function and a Creative Auto mode, both of the new Rebels also sport a new Feature Guide that provides short explanations of each of the camera's control functions and a Quick Control screen, both of which are designed to provide a user-friendly experience to EOS newbies.

Other features common to both the Rebel T3 and T3i include a 9-point AF system with an f/2.8 cross-type center point, a 63-zone Dual-layer metering system, compatibility with SD, SDHC, and SDXC memory cards and the full line of Canon EF and EF-S optics.
