Epson has announced a replacement for its popular Stylus Photo R1900, and as you might have guessed, it will be called the Epson Stylus R2000. The new 13 x 19” desktop printer has had a number of tweaks and improvements made including larger ink cartridges, which according to Epson should increase print output by about 50% compared to the R1900, and a choice of USB 2.0, Ethernet or Wireless-N connectivity.
Other features found on Epson’s newest offering include Epson UltraChrome H-Glass 2 ink technology, an eight color, archival quality, pigment-based ink set with an enhanced gloss optimizer for uniform print surface reflectivity, and an eight-channel MicroPiezo print head with AMC (Advanced Meniscus Control) that lays down ink droplets as small as 1.5 picoliters at 5670 x 1440 resolution.
The Epson R2000 utilizes dual black inks: Photo Black for glossy and luster surfaces, and a matte black for matte and fine-art surfaces, which are swapped automatically when you select your choice of paper. To further improve output quality, Epson collaborated with the Rochester Institutes of 
Rochester’s Munsell Color Science Laboratory in the development of AccuPhoto HG Image Technology, which carefully monitors the way ink is layered onto the paper surface in a bid to maximize sharpness, minimize “grain,” and better guarantee uniformly consistent ink coverage.
Additionally, the Epson Stylus Photo R2000 features a high capacity, top loading auto sheet feeder, a rear single sheet, fine art paper feed and the ability to use roll papers. We expect delivery of the new Epsons sometime during the month of May, 2011.
