Spanning the world of projector technologies, LG Electronics has introduced several LED-based portables, including one with a TV tuner and a high-end LCoS 3D projector bundled with six pairs of polarized glasses.
Starting with the latter, the Full HD 3D LCoS Projector (the CF3D) from LG puts out a brightness of 2500 ANSI Lumens and is able to project images from 30 to 300 inches in size. With a native resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, the Full HD picture is created from three Liquid-Crystal-on-Silicon chips.
The CF3D comes with six pairs of polarized 3D glasses. The advantage of these over active shutter LCD glasses is that there’s no battery—and they’re less expensive. You can even get clip-on AG-F220 Cinema 3D Glasses that fit over prescription eyeglasses. To view 3D content, you’ll need a 3D program source such as a 3D-capable Blu-ray Disc player from LG or another manufacturer. The projector offers 1.3x optical zoom and has three HDMI inputs as well as a PC (VGA) input.
For a non-3D alternative that is still Full HD and uses LCoS technology, LG has introduced the AF115 Home Cinema Projector. With a brightness of 1500 ANSI Lumens, the projector also includes two HDMI inputs.
For a very lightweight projector, LG is offering the HS201 Ultra Portable LED Projector. The 1.8-pound projector offers a resolution of 800 x 600 pixels and a brightness of 200 Lumens. Its LED lamp will last 30,000 hours, essentially the life of the projector.
Stepping up in brightness, the HX350T Portable LED Projector with Tuner weighs about the same as the HS201 and has the same LED life expectancy but puts out 300 Lumens and includes an ATSC tuner for connection to an antenna, such as the Terk Technologies TV4 Low-Profile Indoor TV Antenna for free over-the-air DTV. Suddenly, the big game is the BIG game.
At 270 Lumens, the HX301G Portable LED Projector is nearly as bright as the HX350T but doesn’t include the tuner.
A convenience feature available on the HS201, HX350T and HX301G models is that if you have a USB storage device containing movies in DivX format, you can plug it directly into the projector’s USB input for viewing—no computer or DivX-compatible DVD player required.
