Leica has announced the release of a Super Elmar-M 21mm f/3.4 ASPH, which is an update of one of the more popular wide-angle optics available for Leica M-series film and digital cameras. The new ultra wide, which has the equivalent AOV of a 28mm lens when used on a Leica M8 (1.3x crop factor), features 8 elements in 7 groups, 2 aspherical surfaces, a 46mm filter thread, a minimum focus of 2.7’ (0.7m), and 6-bit bar-coding for fluent communication between the lens and the camera.
