New Sekonic Meter Bundled with Special ColorChecker Passport

Sekonic has announced the bundling of two of its innovative Litemaster Pro light meters with the X-Rite ColorChecker Passport with Sekonic Gray Balance Card, to simplify the process of getting the best exposures and most accurate colors from your camera. Utilizing the free software from Sekonic and X-Rite, you can use the Litemaster Pro L-478D Light Meter with X-Rite ColorChecker Passport and Litemaster Pro L-478DR Light Meter with X-Rite ColorChecker Passport to create an exposure profile for each of your cameras, map out their dynamic range, calibrate your meters and create color profiles for optimal color imaging easily.

Litemaster Pro L-478D Litemaster Pro L-478DR

The Litemaster Pro L-478D is an incident and flash meter that features a 2.7” touch screen color LCD for intuitive navigation and menu control. It is a versatile tool that is well suited to still photo, HD video and cinema applications. It can be customized to your particular needs, displaying only the information important to your specific shoot, and can create and store profiles of individual cameras. Features include the AVE/EV setting, which allows you to make one master exposure and have all subsequent readings displayed as differential values, the Ambient-Flash mode to register flash exposure as a percentage of the flash and ambient light, and the memory capability to store 10 different exposure readings for comparative reference. Illuminance and luminance values can also be taken, measured in footcandles/lux or candela per square meter/foot-lamberts, respectively.

For film and HD video applications, the L-478D allows you to switch between HDSLR and Cine for exact exposure settings in exact increments, and includes ISO and exposure settings that are up to date with the most recent camera developments. Infinite frame rates and shutter angles are also selectable, and light-source filtration compensation mode will help you manage filtered lighting.

The Litemaster Pro L-478DR brings with it the same features as the L-478D, including the touch-screen operation, and also offers the ability to wirelessly control PocketWizard-enabled strobes and flashes directly from the light meter. Use the touch screen to manually control flash power, from full power down to 1/64 power, and control lights in up to three zones.

The X-Rite ColorChecker Passport was specially produced by X-Rite for use with the Sekonic L-478-Series meters and contains not only three distinct targets for calibrating color, dynamic range and white balance, but also the Sekonic Gray Balance Card, which is located on the inside back cover of this special passport and only available with this bundle. The Classic ColorChecker Target lets you evaluate specific colors and create a DNG profile for use in the Adobe Suite with your camera’s RAW capture. This will provide you with accurate, consistent and reproducible colors. The Creative Enhancement Target provides enhancement patches and allows you to check shadow details and highlights, and provides a reference for warming and cooling image color. The White Balance Target provides a spectrally neutral surface for consistent, customized, in-camera white balance.

The Sekonic Gray Balance Card enables incident light calibration using Sekonic's Data Transfer System (DTS) and reflected light calibration when using DTS and the separately purchased Viewfinder 5º attachment. Sekonic’s DTS simplifies exposure and meter calibration and by using the X-Rite ColorChecker Passport with Sekonic Gray Balance Card and Sekonic’s Data Transfer Software Version 3 you can create an exposure profile and map out the dynamic range of your DSLR or digital video camera. Transferring this data to the Sekonic L-478D or L-478DR meters enables you to know which details of a scene or subject will be properly imaged, and which will be over or under the camera's range.

The passport's targets are housed in a durable, portable, hard plastic case that protects the targets from damage and fading. It includes a built-in stand for optimal angles when shooting the targets.

i have Prophoto D1 Air . wireless control is supported. thanks

I currently have a Hensel light system. 3- 500 pro plus. I do not use pocket wizards. Is this something that I would have to have to fire the strobes from the meter?

Yes, you would need a Pocket Wizard connected to your strobe in order to fire them from the meter.
