Two New Canon Cameras: the PowerShot SX50 HS and S110

PowerShot SX50 HS

Canon just announced the new 12.1MP PowerShot SX50 HS, a compact digital camera with a 50x optical zoom and a wide-angle 35mm equivalent 24-1200mm fixed lens with an aperture range of f/3.4-6.5. It features a high-sensitivity 1/2.3” CMOS sensor and a DIGIC 5 image processor which are united by Canon’s HS System, which results in better image quality and an ISO that goes up to 6400 for shooting in dimly-lit environments. Its high-speed AF helps you capture fleeting moments, you can shoot up to 10 frames per second. It has the ability to record 1080p Full HD video with stereo sound. A 2.8” articulating LCD screen and a 202,000 dot electronic viewfinder enable you to compose shots. The SX50 HS is capable of shooting 12-bit RAW+JPEG.

The 50x optical zoom lens on the new SX50 HS has an exceptionally long range. It will help you zero-in on shots that would otherwise be too distant to accurately capture, and a built-in optical image stabilizer helps to keep images steady. This can be very useful for shooting sporting events and stage shows, especially when you can’t get as close to the action as you’d like. The LCD screen features a resolution of 461,000 dots and provides approximately 100% coverage. A dedicated button is provided for shooting movies, and you can still zoom in and out while you’re rolling. An HDMI output is provided for connecting the SX50 HS directly to your TV.

There are many automated features on the SX50 HS that make it easy to take precise-looking stills and videos. Its Smart AUTO mode adjusts the camera settings for you. It has the ability to identify faces and keep the parameters continually optimized on the people in the frame. An Intelligent IS feature automatically chooses the best possible modes for image stabilization. A built-in flash is provided, and you can attach a more powerful Speedlite flash to its built-in hot shoe.

PowerShot S110

Canon has also just announced the 12.1-megapixel PowerShot S110 digital point-and-shoot camera. The S110 is available in black or silver and it features a 12-megapixel 1/1.7-inch CMOS sensor, DIGIC 5 Image Processor and Canon HS System, which affords high shutter speeds and a maximum of ISO 12800 for exceptional low-light performance. The camera also features built-in Wi-Fi, which allows you to transfer images to social networking sites wirelessly via Canon’s iMAGE GATEWAY. If you have an Android or iOS device, you can also use the free Canon CameraWindow app to share images between Wi-Fi-enabled PowerShot cameras, and print your images with a Wi-Fi-enabled printer. Plus, you can even record GPS data on your mobile device or smartphone and wirelessly add a geographical narrative to the images on your camera.

The S110 features a 24mm wide-angle 5x optical zoom lens with a bright f/2.0 aperture. It thrives in low-light conditions and works well when you’re using a shallow depth of field for softer backgrounds. The S110 can also capture Full HD 1920 x 1080p video with stereo sound via a dedicated movie button, which supports MOV files. You can zoom while you’re shooting and you can play back video on an HDTV in Full HD via the integrated HDMI port. The camera also features a 3-inch capacitive PureColor System touch screen LCD that makes recording easier and playback more convenient. Plus, it supports intuitive control of the camera functions including the Touch Shutter, which provides a more interactive user experience.

The S110 is equipped with Canon’s High Speed AF and High Seed Burst HQ, which facilitates up to 10 fps continuous shooting. The camera also features a built-in flash and a convenient Intelligent IS that automatically chooses from six different modes of image stabilization depending on your shooting conditions. It also features 12-bit multi-aspect RAW+JPEG shooting and bundled software for satisfying your creativity. Canon has outfitted the S110 with a control ring as well, which facilitates adjustment of: focus, aperture, shutter speed, ISO step zoom, exposure compensation, aspect ratio, i-Contrast and white balance.

Does the canon sx50hs has wifi built in ?

The Canon SX50 HS does not have built-in WiFi.  If you would like a camera with built-in WiFi, you could look at the SX50’s successor, the Canon SX60 HS.

Can the SX50HS be adapted to send photos through wifi?

You could look at one of the Eyefi memory cards.  They would allow for wireless transfer to a smartphone or tablet.

why is it next to impossible to find a flash unit for this camera even on the internet ?

I am sorry you are having difficulty locating flash units for the camera.  Searching the internet can sometimes be tricky.

The SX50 is compatible with any Canon E-TTL II enabled flash, as well as any 3rd party flashes designated as being compatible with the "Canon E-TTL II system".
