In keeping with the spirit of its compact Lumix interchangeable-lens cameras, Panasonic has introduced two new truly compact zoom lenses: the Panasonic Lumix G X Vario PZ 14–42mm f/3.5-5.6 ASPH Power O.I.S. and Panasonic Lumix G X Vario PZ 45-175mm/F4.0-5.6 ASPH Power O.I.S..
The hoo-ha factors of these two new lenses include profiles that match the compact parameters of Panasonic’s compact Lumix camera lines, Nano surface coatings and an improved image-stabilization system in each of them.
Designed for use on Micro Four Thirds format cameras, the new Panasonic Lumix G X Vario PZ 14–42mm f/3.5-5.6 ASPH Power O.I.S., a 3x zoom that’s as narrow as a 20mm pancake lens when powered down, barely doubles in length when in use. In addition to a pocket-size profile, the new compact 14–42mm Lumix zoom, which covers the field of view of a 28–84mm lens on a full-frame DSLR features advanced Nano coatings that go a long way in greatly reducing image-degrading flare and glare; an improved optical image stabilization system; super-quiet AF motors for improved sound quality when shooting video; and a combination of dual ED glass elements and four aspheric elements for sharp, edge-to-edge image quality.
For those seeking the same relative level of compactness in a longer telephoto design, Panasonic has announced the Lumix G X Vario PZ 45–175mm f/4.0-5.6 ASPH Power O.I.S. The new Lumix X-series tele-zoom, which emulates the field of view of a 90–262.5mm lens on a full-frame DSLR, features a new Multi-Actuator Floating Inner Focus System that, unlike most zoom lenses in its class, maintains a consistently compact profile regardless of whether you’re shooting at the long end or wide end of the zoom’s focal range.
Other image-enhancing features found the Panasonic Lumix G X Vario PZ 45–175mm f/4.0-5.6 ASPH Power O.I.S. include advanced Nano coatings for reducing image-degrading flare and glare; an improved optical image stabilization system; and a pair each of ED glass elements and aspheric elements for optimized image quality.
