Unveiled: Three New Canon PowerShot Cameras

With the beginning of a new year, Canon has announced three new PowerShot point-and-shoots ready to take their place in 2014 as updates to already successful cameras.

 

 

 

 

PowerShot N100 Digital Camera

The PowerShot N100 Digital Camera, available in black or white, is the follow-up to one of the more interesting cameras from 2013, the PowerShot N. It retains many of the core features of the N while upgrading both the lens and image processor and adding impressive touches like the rear-facing secondary camera. The sensor on the N100 is a 12.1MP High Sensitivity CMOS sensor and it combines with the DIGIC 6 Image Processor to create the Canon HS system, which provides effective low-light capture and fast performance speeds.

While the focal length is not as long as that on the N, the N100 provides a faster maximum aperture of f/1.8 and a 5x optical zoom with the 35mm focal length equivalence of 24-120mm. Optical image stabilization compensates for camera movement, reducing blur and enabling sharp images, even in low light. A 3.0” tilting LCD screen enables clear image composition and playback at multiple angles and has a capacitive touchscreen design for intuitive camera control. A dedicated button immediately starts video recording in full HD 1080p resolution and with the Hybrid Auto and Story Highlights functions, short video clips are recorded before each still image and compiled to make a highlight reel. Dual Capture mode uses a rear-facing secondary camera to capture your facial expressions while shooting and then creates a unique picture-in-picture effect.

The N100 features built-in Wi-Fi connectivity for instant sharing of photos and videos to iOS and Android devices as well as to your WI-Fi enabled computer and, in some cases, directly to social media sites. For Android 4.0 and later devices, NFC (Near Field Communication) is supported for simple touch connection and a convenient Mobile Device Connect Button enables quick connection to both iOS and android devices.

With the N100 comes the introduction of a new battery pack, the NB-12L, and a new battery charger, the CB-2LG. Also new to the Canon accessory lineup is the optional ACK-DC100 AC Adapter kit.

PowerShot SX600 HS Digital Camera

Taking its place atop the SX series is the PowerShot SX600 HS Digital Camera, available in black, red, or white. With a 16MP High-Sensitivity CMOS sensor and the DIGIC 4+ image processor, this long zoom point-and-shoot produces sharp, color-accurate still photos and full HD 1080p video. An 18x optical zoom lens provides a versatile set of focal lengths equivalent to 25-450mm in the 35mm format. With wide-angle to ultra-telephoto capability, this is an ideal camera for those who want to cover a full sweep of shooting situations with one camera. A 3.0” LCD monitor enables clear, bright image composition and playback. Smart AUTO mode selects the optimal camera settings based on 32 predefined settings, so that you can concentrate on composing the best image and capturing the decisive moment.

Built-in Wi-Fi connectivity allows wireless transfer of images to compatible computers, smart devices and, with a free download of the Canon CameraWindow app, directly to select social media sites. The convenient Mobile Device Connect Button allows you to connect to your compatible Android or iOS device easily for quick sharing and NFC enables instant pairing with select Android devices.

PowerShot ELPH 340 HS Digital Camera

The PowerShot ELPH 340 HS Digital Camera is available in black, silver, or purple and is introduced as the update to the ELPH 330 HS. It has upgraded both its megapixel count and its lens reach as compared to the ELPH 330 and, although its lens is not as powerful as that of the above SX600, it is more compact and otherwise similarly featured. A 16MP High-Sensitivity CMOS sensor with the DIGIC 4+ Image processor provides excellent low-light performance. Full HD 1080p video capture is accessible via a dedicated one-touch movie button. A 12x optical zoom lens offers the versatility to go easily from wide-angle to telephoto focal lengths and its Smart AUTO setting selects the proper camera settings based on 32 in-camera stored shooting situations. A bright 3.0” LCD facilitates precise composition and clear image playback, even in direct sunlight. The ELPH 340 is an ideal camera for those who want a compact, easy-to-use system with a wide set of focal lengths to capture your important moments

Like the above new releases, the ELPH 340 HS features built-in Wi-Fi connectivity for wireless transfer of stills and videos to your computer and compatible iOS and Android mobile devices. Wireless connection also enables your smart device to be used as a remote control to adjust camera settings and release the shutter.
