Bags for Mirrorless Cameras

For those who don't need a huge bag for a small compact camera, smaller bags like the ones below present a more viable option. Why tote more bag than you need?

The Crumpler Pleasure Dome Shoulder Bag opens like a clamshell, with anti-spill gussets, so you have easy access and plenty of protection because your camera will not take an accidental tumble. The bag can hold a Micro Four Thirds digital camera or large compact digital camera. The main compartment also features a slip pocket for memory cards, cables or other accessories. The dual-zippered closure keeps everything secure in the main compartment, and the tough 900-Denier nylon exterior of the bag is water resistant. The Pleasure Dome can be attached to another bag or directly to your belt with touch-fastener webbing on the back, can be held with the top foam padded carry handle, or can be worn across the body with the length-adjustable, detachable shoulder strap that has snap hooks and a tri-glide buckle system.

Crumpler Pleasure Dome BlackRapid Snapr35+

The BlackRapid Snapr35 + Sling Strap combines a camera bag with a sling strap. The bag is durable and padded for Micro Four Thirds cameras. A tether attaches the camera's tripod socket to the sling strap; then the camera is placed upside down in the bag. Take it out, and the camera is aligned in position for photographing. A pocket on each side of the Sling Strap is available for phones or other small accessories. Use the bag alone, use the sling, use the hand strap, or use a combination of all three.

Built to carry a compact mirrorless camera along with an extra lens and a few accessories, the Lowepro Streamline 100 Shoulder Bag has a lightweight, slim and modern design with an adjustable shoulder strap. Zippered pockets on the front and back of the bag carry your cell phone, keys, lens cap, memory cards or the like.

The Tamrac 3440 Rally Micro Camera Bag can carry a mirrorless camera with lens attached, an extra lens, a small flash and accessories. A zippered front pocket holds memory cards and batteries, and two mesh side pockets are available for a phone and MP3 player. Carry a notepad or small manual in the open back pocket. A hook-and-loop closure and quick-release buckle provide security. The bag can be carried with an adjustable shoulder strap or the carrying handle.

The lightweight yet rugged Lowepro Dashpoint 30 Camera Pouch can carry a compact camera or a CSC (compact systems camera) with attached zoom lens, plus a handheld GPS or other electronic device. Inside the top lid is a built-in memory card pocket. The pouch offers quick access through its wide-mouth opening with reverse zippers and has EVA padding that provides protection against impact. The pouch comes with a removable and adjustable shoulder strap for a comfortable fit and increased mobility.

Sling Bags

A sling bag gives photographers multiple carrying options and quick access to equipment. It helps to free up your hands when switching lenses as well, and come on—it also looks pretty cool, too!

The Kata 3N1-10 DL Sling Backpack provides three carrying options, effortlessly changing from right sling to backpack to left sling. This sling holds a DSLR with mid-range zoom lens attached, 1-2 additional lenses, a flash and personal accessories or it can even hold a compact camcorder with accessories. The gear can be arranged in the bottom main compartment, using the modular dividers to custom fit your gear in the bag. A large top compartment is a perfect spot for those personal accessories or additional camera accessories, and two zippered external pockets provide even more storage space for smaller accessories. The bag is also outfitted with tripod straps. In sling position, you have quick access to your main camera/camcorder and important gear as the bag swings around from back to front. When you need to carry your gear over distances, the backpack position is made for the long haul.

Without looking like a camera bag, the Lowepro Passport Sling II Bag has a fully customizable and removable camera compartment that provides a perfect fit and protection for a light setup. The compartment can be accessed from the top of the sling and can hold a DSLR or CSC with attached zoom lens and two extra lenses, or one extra lens and one flash. The camera compartment can be removed to create a sling that can be used for personal gear, making this bag an excellent travel companion. The main compartment of the bag itself can unzip to expand by 30 percent for more storage space. There is also an easily accessible water-bottle pocket and another pocket for your passport and other documents. The sling has an adjustable shoulder strap with a cam lock buckle that allows you to wear it over your shoulder or across your body, high or low. On the shoulder strap is a detachable shoulder pad that provides extra comfort when attached.

For fast and easy access, the Lowepro Urban Photo Sling 150 gives you three options for wearing it: front, back or side. There are two loading/access options: through the top or through the full panel for total organization. Use the adjustable and removable padded dividers to custom fit your gear. The sling will hold a DSLR with attached 55-200mm lens, two extra lenses or a flash and one lens, a tablet and a few accessories or personal items. Or, you can fit a CSC with attached lens, three extra lenses or a flash and two lenses, a tablet and accessories and personal items. The tablet, in either case, has its own dedicated padded compartment. Keep memory cards accessible with a built-in memory card pocket. Side pockets provide quick access to personal items or accessories. There is also a zippered front pocket, perfect for small accessories. The top flap is contoured and covered with mesh to keep you comfortable and cool. A waist belt that can be hidden away provides comfort and stability in use.

Lowepro Urban Photo Sling 150 Tamrac's 5788 Evolution 8

Tamrac's 5788 Evolution 8 Photo/Laptop Sling Backpack offers three different carrying options: as a backpack or as a sling pack worn over the right shoulder or the left shoulder by simply cross-connecting a single shoulder strap. There are also three ways to access your camera gear: through the front door and through two side doors. The Evolution 8 can accommodate a DSLR with up to an 8-inch lens attached, several additional lenses and a flash. A fully foam-padded laptop sleeve in the back of the bag holds most laptops up to 15.6 inches. For additional storage, a foam-padded top compartment can hold a light jacket or other photo accessories. A mesh pocket along the back and one on the inside of the door panel can keep smaller accessories separate and safe. A zippered pocket on each side is perfect for a phone or keys. The right-side pocket also includes a removable rain cover that can be stretched over your bag to protect its contents from the elements. A QuickClip tripod attachment system allows you to keep a tripod centered and balanced on the front of the bag, for easy carrying.

Ballistic nylon and Hypalon materials are strategically placed at stress points to offer strength and resilience during heavy outdoor use and travel. Heavy-duty YKK zippers on the main compartment provide superior water resistance. Included is an all-weather cover that protects your gear from the elements. The bag's adjustable harness system provides a fully customized and comfortable fit: a 10-point adjustment system lets you customize fit at the top of the pack, as well as in shoulder, torso, sternum, waist and lumbar areas.

The Lowepro Photo Hatchback 22L AW Backpack is a high-performance modern daypack with multi-functional compartments. A removable, padded camera box with a storm-flap closure and grab handles offers storage for a DSLR with attached lens (up to 18-105mm), 2-3 additional lenses and a flash. Remove the box to convert the bag to a daypack for personal items. A body-side hatchback opening provides easy and discreet access to gear. There is a padded front pocket that offers quick access to a dual compartment perfect for a tablet or small laptop, and tall stretch mesh side pockets can accommodate a water bottle. The upper compartment is perfect for personal items and includes a zippered pocket and 2 stretch-mesh pockets. The bag also has a built-in memory card pocket. The padded mesh-covered back pad provides soft, breathable comfort for all-day wear. The straps have multiple adjustment points to custom-fit your backpack at your shoulders, sternum and waist, and SlipLock attachment loops on the shoulder straps expand carrying capacity. An all-weather cover is also available for added protection.

Innovative Bags and Cases

Not all bags are created equal. Some serve their purpose well without bells and whistles. Others include a lot, but don't quite fit your personal needs. Then there are innovative bags that break the mold, like these.

The lightweight and durable Gura Gear Kiboko 30L Backpack features a zippered butterfly flap access system, meaning that one side of the bag opens at a time. This allows for unique configuration and ultimate customization of 2 DSLR bodies, 7-8 lenses (up to an 800mm f/5.6 lens) and a flash. It also features a removable waist belt, zippers with long pulls and extra lumbar padding. Made with high-tech fabrics that are also used in sail-making, the outer materials are abrasion and tear resistant. The lightweight padding of the interior can handle rough impacts without the bulk of traditional foam padding used in other camera bags. The Kiboko can be carried using the ergonomically placed handles or as a backpack using the retractable harness system. The Kiboko 30L is available complete with a custom-fit rain cover.

The Kata Revolver-8 PL Backpack offers innovative design elements. The main DSLR is stored in the top quick-access compartment. Other lenses and accessories are stored in a revolving wheel in the lower compartment. Turn the insert until you reach the one lens or accessory that is needed. Then open a side compartment for easy access to that one item. The bag will fit one DSLR with grip and standard lens attached, 4 additional lenses (70-200mm, 16-35mm, 50mm, 100mm macro) and up to 15.4-inch laptop. You can attach a tripod to the bag, and it includes a rain cover.

The front hatch compartment has two modular camera cases that can be removed to convert the camera pack into a full backpack. The modular cases, in total, can fit a pro DSLR camera body with grip and 24-70mm lens attached, plus 3-4 additional lenses or flashes. The back can also hold up to a 15-inch laptop and personal items such as a sleeping pad, small tent and trekking poles. In one side pocket you can carry your water bottle, and on the other you can use the tripod / monopod attachment system. A reflective all-weather cover protects your gear against the elements.

Keep in mind that many of these bags come in different colors and sizes. Call or visit a Sales Professional at B&H, who will spend time making sure your equipment fits properly in any case you buy, and will answer any questions you may have.

correct me if I'm wrong here, but what I find lacking in camera back packs/luggage in general is a medium to large sized bag that also has a removable day pack, which in my case, would be purely used for clothes when traveling (for a few days). Clothes in one bag, camera gear in the other, which is specifically a camera bag.
Can anyone shed any light on who'd make such a backpack ? Thanks.

Any suggestions on checking a tripod? On small regional jets that is my only option, and I have a carbon fiber tripod and hefty head I would like to protect.

Hello Gadget Girl -

The Nalpak TP-0950 Tuffpak Hard Tripod Case (Black) is a 9" octagonal case that will snugly hold a tripod with a length of 50-55" and up to a 100mm ball head. Each case is made from rotationally molded cross-linked polyethylene. This case comes with 2" of foam in the lid and the base to protect the equipment. The foam in the lid is glued in and the foam in the base (which is protected from the feet of the tripod by a plastic disk) is held in place by detents that are molded into the base of each case. The case is carried by a molded-in handle.

We have many similar cases with wheels and different features and sizes to accomodate larger or smaller   heads and legs as well.

After reading all the descriptions I am still not sure which one of these I want and its mostly my problem not the author's. I do not like to change lenses. This also protects the sensors from dust. I carry two 7Ds always, both attached with lenses- one with 10-22mm and hood, and the other one with 24-105 with hood. No battery pack yet.
Accessories I always carry are, extra one battery, and couple of 77mm filters. Flash optional.

Sometimes (during flying) I will also take battery charger, remote release, transfer cable, a protable hardrive, CF card organizer, and my 13.3" MacBook Pro. but its OK if those are tight fit, because when I reach my destination I take these extras out and leave in the hotel room.

I am a street photographer and therefore, often times I also need quick access. Shoulder bags are good fit for ready access. Although, sling bags or convertible slings are easier to carry but they would not allow you to access both camera attached with lenses as the shoulder or messengers will.

Both lenses with hood takes a lot of space but I do not want to use the traditional looking shoulder bags, for safety and look. The look of messenger bags are great. Even better if I can use something that looks like the Think Tank Retrospective. But I do not know which size is good for me. I wish I lived in NYC. Could have walked into your store to try. Sigh!! Can anybody help? Currently I am using a Tenba Messenger that just fits my MacBook 13" but even without the laptop, the cameras are a real tight fit. I something larger.

I am planning on purchasing a Canon G15 and wondered if Canon makes a case for this camera. If not what would you recommend?
