Sony recently introduced a handful of high resolution, feature heavy point-and-shoot cameras. From long zoom bridge cameras to high performance, full HD and Wi-Fi connected compacts to entry level grab-and-goes, this new line of cameras offers something for everyone.
The Cyber-shot DSC-H200 Digital Camera houses a 20.1MP 1/2.3" Super HAD CCD sensor and a particularly powerful 26x optical zoom lens, which produces high resolution still photographs and HD 720p video. With a 35mm focal length equivalency of 22.3-580mm, the lens on the H200 can incorporate true wide-angle and super telephoto shooting for extreme versatility in a non-interchangeable-lens camera. Six aspherical lens elements minimize aberrations and help to produce sharp photos, and Optical SteadyShot image stabilization reduces the appearance of blur caused by camera shake, which is very helpful when shooting at the long telephoto lengths this camera offers.
The build on the H200 is like a DSLR camera with a large, stable grip, offering easily accessible dials and controls and a 3.0” 460k-dot ClearPhoto LCD monitor for image composition and playback. A pop-up flash is ready when you are, and this camera is loaded with features that improve your images. iAuto is available when you just want to point and shoot; Face Detection and Smile Shutter recognize when you are taking people pictures, and adjust the settings accordingly. 360° Sweep Panorama makes it very easy to capture gorgeous panoramas, and Beauty Effect and Picture Effect let you enhance your shots after you’ve taken them.
The Cyber-shot DSC-WX80 Digital Camera is available in red, white and black and is a compact gem loaded with potential. With a 16.1MP Exmor R BSI (Back Side Illuminated) CMOS sensor and the BIONZ image processor working together, the WX80 creates crisp, high-resolution images throughout the ISO range and speeds through its buffering and performance to the tune of 10 frames per second at full resolution. It also supports full HD 1080i video at 60 frames per second in the AVCHD format.
The lens on the WX80 is an 8x optical zoom Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar with a 35mm equivalent focal length range of 25-200mm, well suited to a full range of shooting situations. Aspherical lens elements provide sharp imaging and accurate colors, and Optical SteadyShot image stabilization compensates for the effects of camera movement to reduce blur when shooting with extended shutter speeds. A 2.7” 230k-dot LCD monitor enables live view monitoring, playback and menu navigation; various Auto modes and functions keep this camera accessible to all photographers.
Built-in Wi-Fi connectivity makes it easy to share the photos and videos you shoot with the WX80. By using the free PlayMemories App from Sony you’re able to instantly transfer images to your iOS and Android devices as well as wirelessly view them on wireless-enabled TVs.
The Cyber-shot DSC-W730 Digital Camera is very similar to the WX80 in terms of size and weight and it is available in stylish pink, blue and silver. Like the WX80, it also has an 8x optical zoom lens with a 35mm equivalent focal length of 25-200mm and a 2.7” 230k-dot LCD monitor, but it differs from the WX80 in a few important ways. The W730 does not incorporate built-in Wi-Fi. It has a 16.1MP 1/2.3” Super HAD CCD sensor, which offers sharp, high resolution still photos and captures HD video in 1280 x 720p format at 30 frames per second. It features Optical SteadyShot image stabilization for less blur when shooting in low-light situations or with long telephoto zoom.
iAuto is available to make the image capture easy, and Advanced Flash works to improve the overall effectiveness of the built-in flash and provide greater illumination when ambient light is lacking. Face Detection and Smile Shutter are also available to improve portraiture, and Beauty Effect allows you to enhance skin tone, whiten teeth and remove blemishes. 360° Sweep Panorama allows you to create wide panoramic images in-camera by simply sweeping your camera across the scene. Picture Effects offers in-camera special effects to give your images creative touches such as Pop Color and Toy Camera.
The Cyber-shot DSC-W710 Digital Camera is an entry-level point-and-shoot with a 16.1MP 1/2.3” Super HAD CCD sensor for detailed, true-color imaging in both still photo mode and HD 720p video. Its compact form and color variations (black, pink and silver) make it great to have with you every day. It features a 5x optical zoom Sony lens with the 35mm equivalent focal length of 28-140mm. Optical SteadyShot image stabilization will compensate for the blur caused by camera movement and provide sharp images in low light and when using telephoto zoom. A 2.7” 230k-dot Clear Photo LCD monitor provides compositional viewing and playback and, like the W730, it has iAuto, Advanced Flash, Face Detection, 360° Sweep Panorama and Picture Effect. The easy handling and menu navigation make picture-taking great fun.
For the adventurous who like to go where the going gets tough, and realize that a camera has got to be tough enough to keep up, the Cyber-shot DSC-TF1 Digital Camera is made waterproof to a depth of 33’, shockproof to drops up to 5’, freezeproof to 14°F and dustproof, thanks to airtight construction. These features alone are worth remembering when thinking ahead to ski trips, pool days and trips to the beach, but the 16.1MP 1/2.3” Super HAD CCD sensor that provides clear, detailed images and HD 720p video is also something to keep in mind when looking for your next travel camera.
A 4x optical zoom lens with a 35mm equivalent focal length range of 25-100mm provides wide-angle-to-telephoto perspectives, and the Optical SteadyShot image stabilization helps to keep images crisp. The 2.7” 460k-dot ClearPhoto LCD is bright enough to be seen in sunny conditions and the ergonomic form with embedded, easy-to-push buttons makes working the TF1 simple, even with wet hands or with gloves on. Like the above-mentioned cameras, the TF1 offers iAuto, Advanced Flash and Face Detection to let the camera set the optimal adjustments, Picture Effect and Beauty Effect for in-camera image manipulation, and 360° Sweep Panorama to easily capture the vistas that you will discover on your adventures. The DSC-TF1 is available is red, black and blue.
