Whether you’re packing for a shoot on location or simply going for a stroll through the park, you know carrying around your heavy DSLR, with an attached lens to boot, can quickly tire your hands and arms or strain your neck and back if you dangle it from its strap. Peak Design has introduced an antidote to this DSLR problem: the Capture Camera Clip System.
Capture is a specially designed clip that allows you to attach your camera to nearly any type of strap you have, whether it’s on your backpack, messenger bag, climbing harness, life vest, camera belt or just the belt you’re wearing with your favorite jeans—if it has a strap, Capture can clamp onto it. The maximum-size straps Capture is designed to cling to are those up to 3” (7.6 cm) wide and 0.5” (1.3 cm) thick, and while it is intended for DSLRs, it has no problem carrying micro 4/3 or point-and-shoot cameras as well.
Not only is it happy at home with any strap, it is also supportive of your various other camera-support systems, like your tripod or hand strap. The quick-release plate works with all Arca-Swiss style tripod heads—meaning your camera can go straight from a belt or shoulder strap onto your tripod without any disassembly whatsoever. If you’re rather partial to your hand strap, no worries—Capture’s quick-release plate comes equipped with four flat metal loops, and these allow you to attach that favorite hand strap to it without any conflict. Peak Design does warn you, though, that your neck strap may get jealous. But you may be happier leaving it behind.
The quick-release plate is also very helpful in re-attaching itself to the Capture clip—sliding back on in four different directions, so you can choose which way you want to position the camera on your belt or shoulder strap. Turn it sideways and attach it to your belt so you can securely and comfortably change lenses with both hands free. No more holding your breath with a fragile lens in the crook of your arm as you swap them out.
In order to ensure that you can entrust your camera to Capture, it has been made from top quality, yet lightweight components. From the die-cast aluminum clip and high-strength thermoplastic quick-release button to the clamping bolts that are cold-forged from zinc alloy, the Capture clip system takes its task of protecting your gear seriously. It also comes equipped with a twist-lock that eliminates the chance of accidentally releasing your camera to the hard earth, water or hardwood floor below. This also doubles as a theft-deterrent, and would probably make for a priceless look on a would-be thief’s face.
With a quick press of the release button, your camera can be out of the Capture clip and ready to shoot at a moment’s notice. Another click later and your camera is right back in the clip, and completely secure. It is so secure, in fact, that the lock can even withstand over 150 pounds (68 kg) of force. This is not a suggestion to use it for a climbing harness—we cannot and will not be liable for that.
So if you’re tired of the same old sore neck, back and arms after a day of shooting, then the Capture Camera Clip System from Peak Design may be just what you’ve been looking for. Its strong hold and amazing versatility do not complicate its simple ease of use, and could make it one of the best additions to your camera system. You won’t have to sacrifice anything but discomfort and the potential for dropping your camera or lens—and who doesn’t want to get rid of that?
