With NAMM 2025 in our rearview mirror, things have slowed down here a bit at B&H. But don’t fret! We still have some interesting products to discuss, including two new portable audio recorders from Tascam and a new imagePROGRAF Wireless Inkjet Printer from Canon.
Tascam Releases New Portable Audio Recorders
Designed to capture a wide variety of audio sources from speech to foley to live music, Tascam’s new portable audio recorders make for powerful additions to your audio-recording arsenal. The release comes in two different forms—the DR-05XP and the DR-07XP—both of which boast 2-channel 32-bit float recording without requiring external microphones.
The main difference between the two models is the configuration of their onboard omnidirectional condenser microphones. The DR-05XP features two microphones fixed in an A-B arrangement for stereo capture. The DR-07XP features two microphones that can be configured into either X/Y or A/B arrangements for a broad pickup range. Both versions support sound pressure levels up to 125 dB to easily handle loud live events.
Other than that, the recorders remain largely the same. Both have 3.5mm line inputs with plug-in power support and microSD card slots that support up to 512GB cards for 789 hours of 16-bit / 44.1 kHz recording. Record audio directly to your camera or personal computer using the 3.5mm line output and USB-C ports.
Integrated level modes and signal processing capabilities give you control over the levels of your recorded content. Engage the limiter to compress your audio signal and prevent distortion, mitigate wind noise or rumble with the low-cut filter, and apply a reverb present to your input or output signal, among other adjustments. Selectable recording functions can streamline your workflow and ensure you don’t miss a second of the action. Use the overdubbing on the devices to layer performances over existing tracks. An internal tone generator easily syncs files with your camera, avoiding the painstaking process of syncing audio and visuals in Premiere when you’ve forgotten to slate.
Both recorders maintain the same form factor and can be used in handheld or tripod-mounted configurations. When deciding between the two models, it really comes down to your desired stereo configuration and how much space you’d like to capture.
Canon Introduces a New imagePROGRAF Wireless Inkjet Printer
In their newest iteration of the imagePROGRAF Wireless Inkjet Photo Printer, Canon brings 9-color LUCIA PRO II ink in a 13” form factor. The PRO-310 13” printer can produce both color and black-and-white prints with detailed gradations and a wide color gamut.
The LUCIA PRO II ink system enhances gloss uniformity and scratch resistance in your prints. A pigment-based system means your prints are gallery-quality. Integrated in the printer’s design is a chroma optimizer that flattens the print surface and expands the color on glossy paper. Its L-COA PRO image engine can process large volumes of image data efficiently and quickly.
Printing is facilitated using Wi-Fi, USB, or Ethernet connections. Canon’s Professional Print & Layout software helps keep your workflow intuitive and the printer itself is compatible with Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android systems. Use the 3” color LCD to keep track of your ink levels and printer status. Professional photographers, graphic designers, and even advanced creatives wishing to display their art will appreciate these improvements.
