Zeiss's newest and widest member of the Loxia family is now available at B&H, and broadens the range to ultra-wide-angle perspectives. The Loxia 21mm f/2.8 is a Sony E-mount lens designed for full-frame mirrorless cameras and features a compact profile along with smooth manual focus for enhanced control and precision. In addition to the focusing control, the lens is also well suited to filmmaking applications, due to its manual aperture ring that can be de-clicked for smooth and silent exposure adjustments. The all-metal lens barrel incorporates engraved distance and depth-of-field scales, and a weather-resistant gasket is also featured at the bayonet mount to guard against dust and moisture.
In regard to the optical performance, this 21mm f/2.8 employs a Distagon concept to reduce distortion and provide even illumination and sharpness from edge to edge. Four anomalous partial dispersion elements are used to control chromatic aberrations, while a single aspherical element reduces spherical aberrations for increased clarity and sharpness. A T* anti-reflective coating has also been applied to minimize lens flare and ghosting when working in strong lighting conditions.
