Sigma Sweet 16mm f/1.4 Lens for Mirrorless Cameras

0Share

Recognizing the need for a fast wide-angle lens among mirrorless shooters, Sigma has just released the 16mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary lens, available in Micro Four Thirds and APS-C-format Sony E mounts. Pairing the comfortable wide angle of view, and a 32mm and 24mm equivalent focal length, respectively, along with the bright f/1.4 maximum aperture, this lens is designed to excel in low-light situations, as well as offer exceptional control over depth of field for selective-focus shooting. While labeled as a Contemporary series lens due to its sleek form factor, Sigma is billing this lens as a rival to its top Art series lenses due to an advanced optical design. Using three FLD elements, two SLD elements, and two molded aspherical elements, this is a well-corrected optic designed to minimize color fringing, chromatic aberrations, and spherical aberrations significantly to realize a high degree of sharpness and clarity. Individual glass elements also receive Sigma’s Super Multi-Layer Coating to reduce flare and ghosting for greater contrast and color accuracy when working in trying light conditions.

Beyond its optical merits, this lens is also distinguished by a versatile stepping AF motor that produces fast, smooth, and near-silent focusing performance to benefit videographers and still photographers. The physical construction of the lens uses Thermally Stable Composite material, along with a durable brass bayonet mount, and is rated to be both dust- and splash-resistant for working in trying weather conditions.
