Ricoh adds a new standard zoom to the Pentax K-mount lens lineup with the release of the HD PENTAX DA 16-85mm ED DC WR Lens. This lens even features 11 seals for weather-resistant construction like many of the current Pentax K mount DSLR camera bodies, and it offers a versatile zoom range, equivalent to 24.5-130mm in the 35mm format.
This range provides a wide-angle to medium-telephoto field of view, so shooters can take it out and work with tight interiors, portraits, or even sports without needing to swap out for other lenses. This can be especially helpful when working in wet or dusty environments and, by reaching some of the most commonly used focal lengths, photographers may not find a need to use any other lenses in their day-to-day shooting.
The High Definition coating is the latest multi-layer technology available for the Pentax system; it offers greater light transmission and reduces reflections for higher contrast and limited flare. The Super Protect coating on the external elements is based on fluorine coatings and prevents water-based and oily substances from adhering to the lens, making it much easier to clean. Also utilized in this lens are one Extra-low Dispersion glass element and three aspherical elements, which reduce spherical and chromatic aberrations for a cleaner image.
Enhancing performance is the inclusion of a smooth DC autofocus motor. The 16-85mm even has the Quick Shift Focus System, which allows users to make manual adjustments in AF shooting modes by simply rotating the focus ring. The lens can also focus as close as 1.15' and it has a 7-blade aperture that is circular at 16mm from f/3.5-4.5 and 85mm from f/5.6-8.
The lens will accept 72mm filters and the included hood has a window that enables users to make adjustments to rotating filters without the need to remove the hood. Additionally, front and rear caps are packaged with the lens and an optional soft case is available.
