Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR Lens

At the "front end" of image creation, Nikon has announced a new all-in-one zoom, the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR. Designed for DX-format DSLRs, this lens provides a 35mm equivalent focal length range of 27-450mm, covering wide-angle to telephoto perspectives to suit working in nearly any shooting situation. Offsetting the expansive zoom range, a Vibration Reduction system is incorporated into the lens's design to compensate for four stops of camera shake, making handheld shooting a much more viable option, even in dim lighting. In regard to focusing, a Silent Wave Motor provides fast, near-silent autofocus performance that is especially well suited to video recording. An internal focusing system is also employed and helps to maintain the overall lens length during use.

In the optical design, three aspherical elements and extra-low dispersion glass elements correct for chromatic aberrations and distortion throughout the zoom range to realize sharp, contrast-rich image quality. A rounded seven-blade diaphragm is also utilized, helping to produce an aesthetic out-of-focus quality when shooting with selective focus or shallow depth-of-field techniques.

COOLPIX S810c Digital Camera

Melding smartphone with compact point-and-shoot, the COOLPIX S810c Digital Camera is the second iteration of Nikon's Android-infused cameras and brings with it an enhanced feature set for image recording and sharing possibilities.

Featuring a 16MP BSI CMOS sensor, the S810c produces rich image quality with notable low-light sensitivity to ISO 3200 and continuous shooting up to 8 fps to enable its use in a wide variety of shooting situations. Full HD 1080/30p movies can also be recorded, with stereo sound, and played back directly to an HDTV via the HDMI port. Enhancing the imaging capabilities is an equally apt 12x Zoom-NIKKOR ED glass lens that provides a 25-300mm equivalent zoom range, which covers wide-angle to telephoto perspectives to suit working in a wide variety of situations. 24x Dynamic Fine Zoom is available to effectively double the lens's reach and utilizes an intelligent interpolation method to retain vivid image quality. If one chooses to work with nearer subject matter, macro shooting is supported as close as 0.8" away from the front of the lens. Also augmenting this zoom range is lens-shift VR image stabilization, which minimizes the appearance of camera shake to produce sharp imagery in difficult lighting conditions.

What truly separates this camera from many others is the fact that it runs on the Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 mobile operating system. Just as with any other Android smart device, this permits the use of different apps available from Google Play, including social media apps, on-the-fly image-editing apps, and any other mobile media tool desirable. Instant sharing is possible to social media sites, as well as in-camera email, web browsing, and music streaming. When a Wi-Fi network is not available, direct image transferring is also available to linked mobile devices. Additionally, beyond the built-in Wi-Fi connectivity, an integrated GPS module can be used for geo-tagging imagery. For navigating the camera's operating system, as well as for image monitoring and review, a large 3.7" 1,229k-dot touchscreen display is used for intuitive operation and hands-on control. Image comments of up to 400 characters can be added directly to photographs, recorded via voice input or by using the onscreen keyboard, and then posted directly to Twitter or Google+. When reviewing imagery, a unique Timeline View displays photographs with comments together in chronological order, or imagery can be organized in different timelines for unique events.

The Nikon COOLPIX S810c is available in black or white.
