Continuing to strengthen its lineup of enticing manual focus primes for full-frame and APS-C Sony E mirrorless shooters, Voigtlander has just announced the Nokton 40mm f/1.2 Aspherical lens. Keeping with Voigtländer’s preference for this unique, not-too-wide, not-too-long focal length, this new optic is billed as the first 40mm lens with an impressively bright f/1.2 maximum aperture for extensive control over depth of field, as well as enhanced low-light performance. It is also characterized by its use of a pair of aspherical elements to control spherical aberrations and distortion for a high degree of sharpness and clarity.

Like other recent Voigtländer releases for the E-mount, this lens has a manual aperture ring that can be de-clicked for smooth, silent aperture transitions to suit videographers, and its manual focus design permits photographing subjects as close as 1.2' away. Additionally, electronic contacts are integrated at the lens mount for transferring Exif data between the camera and lens, as well as affording the use of Sony camera’s focus magnification, image stabilization, and lens-correction technologies.
