ADK was founded in 1997, with the idea of replicating the sonic qualities of vintage mics. By enlisting the help of microphone experts, a Belgium design genius, 10 Grammy-Winning Engineers, and a 40-year-old microphone collection, ADK was able to create a unique brand of microphones that enable you to tailor the dynamic behavior of the mic to the situation and obtain new textures without the need for outboard processors or even EQ. The five Studio Series condenser microphone models B&H is happy to introduce are the A6, Odin, Thor, Vienna MK8, and Hamburg MK8.

The A6 Cardioid Class-A Microphone is well suited for vocals, brass, stringed instruments, and drum overheads. Designed to have neutral sound coloration and a dynamic range suitable for heavy sound-pressure levels, the A6 features a FET circuit that has been finely tuned and optimized for clean wideband amplification with a low noise floor. The A6 is highly effective for digital recording and has been coined the “all rounder.”

The Odin Cardioid Condenser Microphone is a robust microphone with a broad tonal palette. The cardioid polar pattern and built-in attenuation pad can accommodate sound sources upwards of 150 dB. Well suited for recording vocals, brass, drum kits, and guitar cabinets, the microphone delivers a clean audio path with low distortion and accurate sonic imaging.

Like the Odin, the Thor Tri-Polar-Pattern Multi-Voice Condenser Microphone is a robust microphone with a broad tonal palette. The microphone can be switched between omnidirectional, cardioid, and figure-8 polar patterns for a full gamut of recording options. The high headroom and low noise make this microphone great for pop and rock vocals, as well as brass instruments, drums, guitar amps, and more. The built-in pad allows for sound pressure levels up to 150 dB with detail and accurate imaging.

The Vienna MK8 Large Diaphragm Condenser Microphone is an upgraded version of the original Vienna, which was designed to replicate a vintage late 1960s Austrian tube microphone. This eighth-generation microphone has a more fine-tuned response curve and is well suited for sources needing a sparkling and iridescent tonality. The Class-A pressure-gradient FFT condenser capsule offers a fixed cardioid polar pattern with a 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response. The 14 dB pad and high pass filter help craft the tone with a 126 dB SPL rating. The mic offers a distinctive “sheen” that is ideal for vocals, pianos, percussion, and more.

The Hamburg MK8 Large Diaphragm Condenser Microphone is an upgraded version of the original Hamburg, which was designed to replicate a vintage late 1950s German valve microphone. Like the Vienna, this eighth-generation mic has a fined-tuned response curve but offers a rounder, mellow tone to balance against sound sources that are bright, nasal, thin, or have sibilance issues. The microphone offers a fixed cardioid pattern and utilizes Class-A electronics. The 14 dB pad and high pass filter help craft the tone with a 126 dB SPL rating. The mic offers a mellow, robust quality, well suited for vocals, reeds, or bass elements.

ADK has a large assortment of microphones that perform well and sound fantastic. With so many choices, you are bound to find your perfect microphone. For the studio on a budget, these mics are a great way to beef up any microphone locker without breaking the bank.
