Sony has announced that it is revamping the Walkman for the digital age, for on-the-go music lovers. The Walkman NW-ZX2 boasts audiophile-quality playback with Bluetooth compatibility, 60-hour battery life, 128GB of internal storage, and a solid aluminum body. The Walkman features the S-Master HX digital amplifier, which was developed for high-resolution playback using a mastering-quality digital amplifier that reduces distortion and noise, while offering a wide frequency response.
The unit supports music files up to 192 kHz/24-bit and is compatible with the following formats: MP3, WMA, AAC, FLAC, AIFF, WAVE, and ALAC including DSD. An additional 128GB of storage is available via a micro-SD card. The enclosure is sculpted from aluminum with rounded edges, providing a stylish, yet highly rigid case. The Walkman NW-ZX2 is scheduled for release in spring of 2015.

El walkman a la carga
Their "cheapie" currently available player is $300. No way this thing is going to be anywhere near that price - but it should simply replace the other one at $400! It looks like a direct competition to the ludicrously priced Astell & Kern players - strictly for the audiophile consumer.
This music player sounds good on paper. Is it compatible with Apple's iTunes music library on Apple Macs? Thanks.
Hi Jacob -
We will not know what music organization system is until SONY releases more information and a production model. This first look was of a prototype and it appears that it employs an Android based OS.

If the price is $1,000+, this is too much!!! Does it have a mic so you can record notes? Does it have a LINE-IN to record from external sources? Does it have an AM (for Sports Radio fans) and FM tuner? Can it record AM & FM? If not, then forget it!!!
According to SONY, this is a media player only and will not offer recording features.
1.100.- are you kidding?
thanks
Superrr
At long last, I loved the Sony Walkman! I will not purchase any Apple product, period, and know many other people with the same feelings.
This is a product that has been missing from the market for several years. Can't wait!

Nice device, bad price.... as ussual with Sony... always overpricing the gadgets... I will not pay more than $350... if not, this gonna be a bad marketing for Sony just like the betamax in the 80’s, or today with Samsung with the overpriced Galaxy S5... yep, they have thousand of those smartphone in inventory cause of the price... Some Corporation still don’t learn the lesson...
Please advise when available.
@ $1,100 it's toooooooooooooooo high. Firmly passing.
Email me when have thanh you
Can the user replacde the battery?
Hi Doug -
As far as can be determined at this time, the rechargeable battery is built-in and not user replaceable. It is a large capacity Lithium-ion battery that provides up to 60-hours of music playback per charge.

I would also LOVE to know if it recorded. That would be very hip. Still, a higher end music player is I think a nice little niche for Sony to get into.

Sounds like an awesome product until you see the price tag: US$ 1,100. No thanks!
Awesome move by Sony! Apple discontinued the iPod Classic and left a hole in there product line for music lovers who have large music libraries and don't want it all stored in the "cloud". Sony started the portable music revolution @1980 and now they are back!
Potential for 256GB. Slick design and battery life. I'm in!
Just learned it will be priced around $1,100! Bad move. They'd sell millions at $400. Bummer.
I love it! I use to jog with my Sony Walkman 30 yrs ago. This is an Inovation!
nice
