ART has long been a name in audio synonymous with quality and affordability, and has found its way into many studios, project and home alike, accordingly. The company has taken NAMM as the opportunity to announce its first foray into the 500 Series market, adapting the popular PRO-VLA compressor to the modular system. To fit the design into a single 500 Series slot, ART has removed the tube, and replaced it with two circuits designed to emulate the tube response. One circuit is called PUNCH and adds a J-FET harmonic enhancer, taming some peaks, while the GRIT circuit is a frequency-dependent distortion that emulates the way a tube sounds when driven. You can engage these circuits independently or leave them both disengaged for a cleaner style of compression.
