Grass Valley EDIUS 7 Nonlinear Editing Software

When it comes to nonlinear video editing software, the market is somewhat crowded of late, with some of the top names in the industry vying for dominance. One contestant, Grass Valley, may not be as popular as some of their competitors, but their software is nonetheless a long-time favorite among live broadcasters and multi-camera productions. Their newest offering, EDIUS Pro 7, is among the fastest and most powerful NLE software around.

 

With EDIUS Pro 7, Grass Valley is carving out a timely, new specialty for themselves, namely 4K. The platform offers no-render editing of all popular SD and HD formats and the ability to convert 4K, HD, and SD resolutions as well as different aspect ratios, frame rates, and formats in real time. They have also added support for Blackmagic Design’s DeckLink 4K Extreme and an EDL import/export feature for integrating with DaVinci Resolve.

Grass Valley EDIUS Pro 7 is exclusively 64-bit and only-for-Windows-based system. However, it is designed to work nicely with a wide range of third-party input and output hardware, including the newest offerings from AJA Video Systems, Matrox, and Blackmagic Design. It also supports Intel® Ivy Bridge™ and Sandy Bridge™ hardware for working with the fastest systems available today. In addition, a proxy editing mode allows users to run EDIUS Pro 7 on older, slower desktop and laptop systems.

EDIUS Pro 7 works natively with most proprietary video formats, including Sony’s XDCAM, Panasonic’s P2, Ikegami’s GF, RED, Canon’s XF format, and the EOS movie format. It also features significantly improved handling of MPEG and H.264/AVC files and the ability to process up to three AVCHD streams in real time.

Other key features include limitless audio and video tracks, 10-bit color correction, image stabilization, 3D stereoscopic editing, and a host of powerful filters and effects with real-time playback. Third-party plug-ins are also available to augment EDIUS Pro 7’s built-in text, graphics, and compositing capabilities.
