Hands-On Review: the Sony PMW-300K1

13Share
Join Mia McCormick, from Kelby Media, as she shares her impressions of the Sony PMW300K1, which comes with a 14X Fujinon Zoom Lens. She discusses the camera as a direct replacement for the EX3, going over its improvements and upgrades. This includes the PMW300’s improved ergonomics, viewfinder, and recording capabilities over the EX3. Giving a general overview of the camera, McCormick touches on the camera's highlights, improved signal-to-noise ratio, cleaner images, and cache recording. She also covers the little things like the additional ND filter, increased gamma selections, and user-assignable buttons, which can make your shooting day go smoother. We hope you enjoy the video, and invite you to view the wide selection of other instructional and informative videos at B&H InDepth.

Hi Matthew -

Unfortunately Mia's review is no longer available.  Please check our customer reviews for the Sony PMW300K1

Please contact us via e-mail if you have additional questions:  [email protected]

The 50Mbps 4:2:2 UDF mode is not compatible on SD cards using the adapter. The cards will not accept the format.

Also, thanks for pointing out the mistake. We will be sure to fix it accordingly.

Thanks for the review of the PMW 300k1. Toward the end of Mia's review she states that the camera will shoot [email protected] to fast SD cards. This would be great! Some of the BH review posts seem to say that it will only shoot to 420.If you could confirm or clarify that the camera really does shoot 422 @ 50mbps that would be very helpful.

Also , when is the xavc coming out for this camera. Will it be free?

The Sony PMW-300K1 can shoot 422 at 50 Mbps.  You can find this information listed under the specifications for the Camcorder on Sony’s site.  According to Sony’s site, the firmware upgrade for the XAVC Long GoP should be out this October (2014) and will be free.

Thanks for your response. I understand that the camera shoots [email protected] to SXS cards. What Im trying to find out is will it do this to sd cards at this rate with the adapter?
