This B&H holiday video examines in detail the specs and features of the GoPro HERO3: Black Edition and Silver Edition action cameras. Both models are more compact than the HERO2 and they both feature integrated Wi-Fi as well. The GoPro HERO3: Black Edition is equipped with a 12MP image sensor and a six element wide angle aspherical lens. It can record up to an impressive 4K resolution video at up to 15 fps. It also supports video recording at 2.7K at 30 fps, 1440p at 48 fps, 1080p at 60 fps and more. The HERO3: Black Edition comes with a waterproof housing that can protect it to a depth of 197 feet (60 m), a Wi-Fi Remote and two adhesive mounts.
The more affordable HERO3: Silver Edition features an 11MP image sensor and a wide angle aspherical lens. It supports video capture up to Full HD 1080p video at 30 fps, but it also supports several other recording resolutions and frame rates. It’s capable of capturing up to 11MP still images as well. Like the Black Edition, the HERO3: Silver Edition also features video looping, Protune capabilities, manual white balance, burst shooting and time-lapse recording. The built-in Wi-Fi enables remote control via the free GoPro App for iOS devices, which supports live scene preview and offers full control of the camera. The ports and interfaces are the same on both cameras, and several optional accessories and mounts are available.
