Announcing BLADE Chroma Quadcopters

0Share

In an expansion of its drone product line, Horizon Hobby is introducing the BLADE Chroma quadcopters. Available with an integrated HD camera or with a GoPro mount, the Chroma drones are designed for ease of use and making creative photographic and video compositions. The basic BLADE Chroma Camera Drone can hold a GoPro on a fixed mount (gimbal available separately) and is configured as BNF (Bind-N-Fly) so it requires a Spektrum transmitter to operate. The HD camera-toting version of the BLADE Chroma Camera Drone can capture 1080p HD video at up to 60 fps. This iteration comes already bound to the ST10+ transmitter, which runs on an Android operating system. It has a built-in 5.5" screen for displaying live video and telemetry data and can control both the drone and the camera.

Both drones are powered by the same 5400 mAh LiPo “Chroma Flight Pack” battery cartridge, which can yield up to 30 minutes of flight time. The LiPo batteries can be charged with the included charger or using a standard RC LiPo charger with an optional charge cable. The Flight Packs are designed to be inserted and removed easily, enabling battery swaps to be done in less than five seconds. Other improvements include a GPS receiver and compass mast, which holds this sensitive equipment slightly above the drone chassis where it is less prone to interference, and tool-less assembly of propellers, landing gear, and camera mounts.

For customizing your flying experience, the Chroma drones employ SAFE Plus Technology. For beginners, SAFE Plus can create a virtual circle boundary to prevent the drone from flying too close to your or people standing around you. This feature is enabled in Smart Mode and can be disabled in AP (Aerial Photography) mode, which allows advanced control over the aircraft for smooth pans and tilts. Additionally, SAFE Plus lets you set altitude and distance limits to avoid sensitive airspace and remain within the local permissions for flying.

The ST10+ compatible units have even more advanced automations, such as Follow Me and Tracking modes, which can be set up through the transmitter. When set in Follow Me Mode, the drone will follow you at a preset distance and altitude while you control the pan and tilt of the camera. The Tracking Mode adds an extra element to the Follow Me Mode. It trains the camera on whoever is holding the ST10+ transmitter, while following them, so no additional control is needed.
