Ikan’s product line gets a refresh with new and updated products unveiled at NAB 2015. These products include monitors, rigs, teleprompters, and LED lights, including a new line of LED Fresnels, and continues Ikan’s philosophy of offering a wide selection of production gear to assist both amateurs and professionals alike.

In terms of monitors, the entry-level VL7 series sees a boost in resolution with the addition of the VL7e, which offers 1024 x 600 resolution. It also adds an HDMI output, auto image-flip feature, and comes equipped with a Canon LP-E6 battery plate. Ikan’s 8.9" VX9 series of monitors also gets an increase in resolution, jumping from 1024 x 600 to 1920 x 1200 with the new VX9i and VX9w models. The monitors offer the same wide array of I/O connectors as the VX9e model, but replace the HD-SDI input and output with 3G-SDI-capable connectors. Both monitors have full aluminum bodies, while the VX9w adds professional image analysis tools, including waveform, vectorscope, RGB parade, and histogram.

Moving on to rigs, Ikan has announced new cages in its Element line of products. Three models are available, designed specifically to fit the Panasonic GH4, Sony a7S, or Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera. All of the cages are form-fitting and machined from a single piece of aluminum alloy. They feature a dual 15mm rod clamp so you can build up your camera rig, a reversible top handle with integrated cold-shoe mount, and several ¼"-20 and 3/8"-16 threads for attaching accessories. Additional features include tool-less ¼"-20 camera-mounting and cable lock system to prevent your cables from coming loose during a shot, particularly important when outputting to an external recorder. Besides new cages, Ikan is also bringing out updates to its EV Series of support rigs. These EV3 versions of the Quick Fly, Flyweight, and Flyweight Offset add a new quick-release baseplate system to facilitate easier and faster camera mounting.

Another area that ikan has bolstered is in teleprompters. New offerings include an update to the popular 15mm-rod-based PT-ELITE—the PT-ELITE-V2, which now comes with a universal mount compatible with most tablets and iPads, as well as a quick-release system for camera mounting. Along similar lines, the PT1200 is a follow-up to the PT2500, adding the new quick-release and a larger LCD monitor—12" instead of 8". A Stand-Mount version of the teleprompter has also been announced, designed to be mounted on light stands rather than a tripod. For studio applications that require a larger screen, there is a 19mm rod-based PT3700-HD, which comes with a 17" LCD monitor and features American-made 70/30 glass. A 17" teleprompter, designed specifically for use with the Blackmagic Studio Camera, has also been announced.

One of the more exciting announcements from Ikan is new LED lights, including compact on-camera options for run-and-gun shooting and professional LED Fresnels. The on-camera options, dubbed the Micro Spot Light and Micro Flood Light, are pocket-able daylight-balanced (5600K) lights and offer a 30-degree or 120-degree beam angle, respectively. They feature 10-100% dimming, an internal battery with micro-USB charging, and a shoe mount. For professional off-camera lighting, Ikan has announced its Red Star LED Fresnel fixtures, available in 100W (4" diameter lens), 200W (6" diameter lens), and 350W (6" diameter lens) output. The lights are tungsten balanced (3200K) and feature a spot/flood focusing knob, dimming knob, and a quick active cooling system. From studio installations, the fixtures can also be remotely controlled via DMX.
