I guess the only way to make something that is supreme better is to have more of it. ZEISS has launched two more of its Supreme cinema lenses, at NAB 2019, bringing a 21mm T1.5 and 135mm T1.5 into the mix. This brings the family up to a total of nine lenses, including a 25mm, 29mm, 35mm, 50mm, 65mm, 85mm, and 100mm, with even more on the way.
Supreme Series lenses were developed by ZEISS with a focus on consistency. They can also cover large format with ease, including full-frame and Vista Vision, thanks to a 46.3mm image circle. Across the line, these lenses promise to deliver consistent coverage, rendering, aperture (an impressive T1.5 at that), size, weight, and ergonomics. They also have a standard 95mm front diameter and standardized positioning of their focus and iris rings, so they can be integrated in practically any cinema system.
Being high-end cinema optics, ZEISS has equipped these standard lenses with Cooke /i Data support, including ZEISS eXtended Data for use of dedicated profiles to correct distortion and aberrations with ease. All the lenses are available in PL mount.
Are ZEISS Supremes the lens you want to use on your next project? What should be the next focal length additions to the line? Be sure to leave a comment with your thoughts below, and follow B&H Explora for even more news from NAB 2019.
