Record Incoming Video in Real Time: Blackmagic Design Duplicator 4K

Is just filming a live event not enough? You need immediate distribution? Enter the Duplicator 4K from Blackmagic Design. Using the professional SDI connections, you can hook up the Duplicator 4K unit to a camera or switcher and record the incoming video feed to up to 25 SD cards simultaneously in real time. Need more than that? The SDI loop output can be connected to a second Duplicator and then the loop out from the second to yet another Duplicator, ad infinitum, or until your rack space or SD card supply runs out.

To keep up with the latest video standards, the Duplicator 4K uses H.265 HEVC video compression to maintain high-quality and compact file sizes, even with high-resolution 4K video. H.265 bit-rates also keep media costs down by only requiring relatively inexpensive Class 10 UHS-I or UHS-II cards. These cards also have the advantage of being reusable, so if you don’t sell all of the stock, just reformat the remaining cards and save them for the next project.

For further integration into professional workflows, the Duplicator 4K fits into a single RU space. If used in an installation, Ethernet along with RS422 I/O connections let you conveniently control the Duplicator remotely. If you want to assume control using the device itself, an LCD screen, 6 local control buttons, and 8 utility buttons make for easy navigation and setup. The LCD also doubles as a confidence monitor for the incoming video feed. The Duplicator also sports optical I/O for connecting with HD and 4K Studio Cameras from Blackmagic Design or other studio hardware.

Whether it’s for concerts, recitals, plays, or other live events, having immediate distribution at your fingertips adds another source of revenue, as well as ensuring that your patrons can relive the experience, even after the event has concluded. If you produce live content, the Duplicator 4K can greatly enhance your distribution capabilities.
