Sony brings its XAVC family of codecs to its XDCAM lineup with the PXW-X180—now available at B&H. The camcorder features three 1/3" Exmor CMOS sensors, a 25x Sony G zoom lens, and records broadcast-quality 10-bit video up to 1080p60 to dual SxS memory card slots. In addition to XAVC Intra and Long GOP codecs, the camcorder also offers MPEG HD422, HD420, AVCHD, and DV codecs, allowing it to fit easily into a variety of existing HD and SD broadcast and production workflows.
The 25x Sony G lens offers a 35mm equivalent focal-length range of 26mm to 650mm, making it versatile enough to handle most shooting situations. Three independent rings provide precise manual control over zoom, focus, and iris. You’ll also find an electronically controlled variable ND filter for seamless control from 1/4 to 1/128 ND. Some other key features offer by the camcorder include a 0.5" OLED viewfinder, 3.5" LCD monitor, and H.264 proxy recording to an SD card.
The PXW-X180 offers a variety of connections that you’d expect to find on a professional XDCAM, including 3G/HD-SDI, HDMI, timecode I/O, and genlock input. The camcorder also supports Wi-Fi control with the attachment of the included wireless LAN module. The module offers remote control, file transfer, and monitoring via smartphones and tablets, with NFC (Near Field Communication) support for easy, one-touch linking to compatible devices.
