HP announced two new DreamColor displays today that once again see HP bringing to market critical color accuracy for digital artists, photographers, and videographers—the HP Z27x and HP Z24x displays for PCs and Macs. They provide up to 1.07 billion on-screen colors, giving them a color-correction error margin so small that it is not discernible by the human eye.
The new displays are capable of showing off 60% more pixels than the previous DreamColor monitors, with a 4,000% increase in the internal color palette. They’re also 57% thinner than the previous model, with the HP Z724x only 25% of the price of the original DreamColor display.
The HP Z727x features three times the color accuracy of the previous generation, an integrated color-calibration engine with support for third-party calibration instruments, and Ethernet-based remote management of the display through an integrated web server. It is also capable of 4K support. A software development kit is available that allows the end user to integrate the monitor into their workflow.

Both displays are designed with HP’s engineering expertise behind them. There will be consistent 10-bit color accuracy, the ability to create custom color spaces with total control over important areas like color primaries, white point, and tone response, and one-button access to color space presets such as sRGB, Adobe RGB, Rec. 709, Rec. 2020, and DCI-P3.
The HP Z727x will also feature an ultra-wide Digital Cinema Color range that will include 100% of AdobeRGB, 100% of sRGB, and 99% of DCI-P3. In addition, it will include a Night Vision interface with auto-fade backlight and selectable red-button backlight color for enhanced low-light viewing in dim working conditions.

Is there a way to tell when the DreamColor Engine is engaged? On the LP2480zx, it wouldn't engage without an RGB progressive signal. With the new Z24x, how do we know when the DreamColor engine is actually working? Will it engage with both HDMI and mini displayport? Thanks!
The DreamColor Engine in the Z27x and Z24x can accept a YCBCR input signal from a Mac’s Thunderbolt (Mini DisplayPort port) and properly color manage it.
I just got one, and cannot get it to work. There is no user manual. I have a mac book pro all it shows is the desktop with nothing on it.
By default an external display on a Mac is set to an extended desktop. It will only show a blank desktop until you move an icon, window, or application onto it. If you would like it to show the same information as your MacBook Pro’s built in display, you would need to check the Mirror Displays option in System Preferences. (System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement)

Differences between models at different prices should be a lot more clear on your site - they all seem to have the same specs, just at different prices, execpt for the one larger panel which at least has size as an obvious difference. The rest? Not clear at all.

It was not stated if the 24 inch version had the same characteristics as the 27", though it was implied. I would like a clear statement on that *all* of the color and function specs are the same for the 24 inch, with the exception of size and resolution. I suspect this is true, but I want to be sure.

According to HP these monitors offer similar quality features and construction except for size and subsequent resolution. Thee appeatrs to be slight differences in brightness and contrast. But these small differences may not be noticeable except in criticalside-by-side comparisons.

Yeah! We want to know about the YUV!!! I really loved the first version, but to add a converter is deal breaker for me...
Other thing : what will the 4k on it? On the spec cheat we see 4K 24p, but the native resolution is 2.5k with 60hz. Does it mean it have enough pixel to resolve 4k but only in 24p? Anyway, I'm not PT Jackson and there is no way I'll do any 90 frame per second...
If yes is the answer to all of this, TAKE MY MONEY!!!

Thunderbolt compatibility with no lost of quality due to adapters?
Don't use Apple and you won't have to worry about their issues.
Thunderbolt will double as Mini Displayport so there will be no quality loss.

Why is the only spec that matters, DPI, not listed??? Colors are way past overkill and since it is not going in my pocket how thin it is is useless. The only thing that matters is DPI. If HP is confused about that tell them to walk over to Frys and pick up a 263 DPI ipad.

The DreamColor Z24x is a 24-inch display running at 1920x1200 resolution. It features a 350cd/m2 brightness, with a 5,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. Inputs are DVI-D with HDCP support, HDMI, and DisplayPort 1.2 in and out. Four USB 3.0 ports are available, with two on the side and two on the back.
The larger Z27x is a 27-inch DreamColor panel running at 2560x1440 resolution. It is a 300 cd/m2 display with a 1000:1 static contrast ratio. Inputs are one HDMI with HDCP support, and one DisplayPort 1.2. The monitor has four USB 3.0 ports, two USB 2.0 ports, and one audio-out connector.

What is that "60% more pixels" line? And why no specific resolution numbers? Are these supposed to be 4K monitors?
If you'd read the specs, and understand what resolution 4K is at, you'd have your answer. Get smart.

Sorry for the delay, but we are still waiting for a response from HP to our request about support for YUV and their Dreamcolor monitors. I did alittle research and found some information that you may find useful on an independant review web site.
"the DreamColor Engine is very demanding: it absolutely requires a true progressive digital RGB signal over HDMI or DisplayPort. Although the monitor will accept them, interlaced video and/or digital YUV over HDMI are not welcome for the DreamColor Engine. If you supply either or both of those, the DreamColor Engine will shut off, the settings for color space settings will become inactive, and the monitor will display full gamut, which is much more saturated than ITU Rec.601 or ITU Rec.709. These are some of the DreamColor monitor's most important features. Make sure you take advantage of them by making your system deliver a compliant signal."

I just heard from HP
The LP2480zx cannot perform color management if the input signal is formatted as YCBCR (YUV). It must be RGB. To perform color management a YCBCR input signal must be converted to RGB using an external box. Some of the SDI converters, such as the AJA HDP2, can do this.
The Z27x and Z24x can accept a YCBCR input signal and properly color manage it.

Has there been any developments on the converters to use the DreamColor with the BlackMagic Mini Monitor 3G? Is it still the AJA HDP2 or will another bandaid do the trick?
The Blackmagic Design UltraStudio Monitor 3G 3G-SDI/HDMI Playback Device has both an HDMI and SDI output. While these monitors are no longer being sold, they did have an HDMI input for use with a device like this.
