Unveiled: Tokina Cinema ATX Wide-Angle Zoom Lenses

Tokina has unveiled two ultra-wide-angle zoom lenses as part of their new Cinema ATX line. The two lenses, the 11-16mm T3.0 and 12-28mm T3.0, are re-engineered versions of their popular AT-X 11-16mm f/2.8 and 16-28mm f/2.8 Pro FX lenses, respectively. Both lenses feature the same optical performance as their DSLR counterparts, but feature rugged all-metal cinema housings, complete with standard 0.8 pitch lens gears for use with follow focuses, de-clicked aperture ring, and easy-to-read distance scales for focus pullers.

The Cinema ATX 11-16mm T3.0 lens, available in either Canon EF or Micro Four Thirds mounts, produces an image circle designed to cover APS-C or Super-35-sized sensors. Its wide viewing angle makes it particularly well-suited for smaller-sensor cameras such as Blackmagic’s Cinema Camera and Pocket Cinema Camera, as well as Micro Four Thirds cameras such as the Panasonic GH4. The lens utilizes two aspherical and two super-low dispersion lens elements to produce sharp, high-contrast images to meet the demands of 4K, 2K, and HD video applications. A bayonet-mount, petal-style lens hood comes included.

The second of the two lenses, the Cinema ATX 16-28mm T3.0, covers not only Super 35 and APS-C sensors, but also full-frame sensors. Available in Canon EF and PL mounts, the lens is designed to fit easily alongside professional cinema lenses. Beside 0.8 pitch lens gears on the focus, aperture, and zoom rings, the lens has a standard 114mm front diameter for use with professional matte boxes. The lens also supports LDS (Lens Data System) for displaying lens-related information on dedicated Lens Data—especially useful for remote lens operation. The lens employs three aspherical and two super-low dispersion lens elements and features a curved 9-blade aperture diaphragm for pleasing out-of-focus highlights.

Will these be available in Nikon F mount?

At the present time there is no indication from Tokina that they will be offering this lens in a Nikon F mount, but anything is possible.  If they do announce an option later, we will update our website to reflect that.  Feel free to check back with us periodically for any changes.
