In the following demo, we are listening to teenage engineering’s PO-33, a pocket-sized micro sampler. The demo explores all the stock sounds and presets. Listen to all the 16 effects including loops, unison, octave up/down, stutters, scratch, retrigger and reverse. Hear the 6/8 quantize effect change a 4/4 to a 6/8 with tons of character. In the following video, Andrew Eisele demonstrates the Behringer Neutron, a semi-modular analog  synthesizer. The opening demo song was created using only the Neutron to create kick, snare, high hats, synth lines, and effects. Listen to the two oscillators with and without sync, as well as the Neutron’s paraphonic (two notes) mode. The multi-mode filter explores the LP, BP, HP selections with the dedicated envelope. Andrew also demonstrates the integrated BBD analog delay and overdrive circuits. Marvel at the 32-input / 24 output patchbay with the ability to cross-modulate multiple sources or interface with additional gear such as the Behringer Model D or other Eurorack modules. In the following video, Rob Rives, from B&H, discusses the Audio-Technica AT8024 camera-mount microphone. With the microphone mounted on a Canon 5D mk III, the video explores the microphone’s two settings: one for a mono cardioid pickup pattern and one for an internally matrixed mid-side stereo pattern.  The video compares the sound quality of the microphone to the camera’s built-in microphone, demonstrates the integrated shock mount that attaches to the camera’s shoe mount, as well as noting the 100-hour battery life from a single AA battery. The microphone includes a-10 dB and a-20 dB pad for recording sounds up to 148 dB, and an optional 80 Hz high-pass filter to help reduce hum and wind noise. DPA microphones are known for their reference-quality clarity, providing accurate sonic reproduction. At this year’s NAB, the company has announced an addition to its d:facto line, in the form of an interview microphone. Like your typical handheld interview mic, it boasts an omnidirectional polar pattern, giving you freedom of movement while interviewing. In broadcasting, it seems there is always a debate as to what kind of microphone is best to use—dynamic or condenser. Both have a list of pros and cons for any given broadcast application, and with the newly announced BP40 Large Diaphragm Dynamic Broadcast Microphone, it appears Audio-Technica is looking to combine the best of both worlds into a dynamic package. The mic sports a large (for a dynamic mic) 37.5mm diaphragm that provides some condenser-like articulation without betraying the low-end oomph of a dynamic. If you do need to tame that low end because of a rumbling room or extra-boomy voice, the mic does have a selectable high-pass filter. Also featured in the video is a look at the new AT2020USBi, a refresh to their popular USB mic that sees no changes to the capsule or sound capture quality, but an increase of its maximum sampling rate to 24-bit/96 kHz and the inclusion of both USB and Lightning connectors for hooking directly up to your iOS devices.
