In the following video, Rob Rives, from B&H, discusses the new  RØDE RodeLink Wireless Filmmaker Kit, a camera-mounted digital wireless microphone solution. With the system mounted on a Canon 5D mk III, the video explores the system’s 100-meter wireless range and ease of use in pairing the transmitter to the receiver when using the 2.4GHz spectrum. The system supports 8 discrete channels with 8,000 channel combinations and utilizes dual internal antennas at 90-degree angles for maximum signal radiation and space diversity at both ends. The video demonstrates the system’s shoe mount, which allows you to attach the receiver to your camera, as well as the additional 3/8" thread for expanded mounting options. Powered by a pair of AA batteries or via a USB port, both the transceiver and receiver have a battery life of at least 7 hours. The receiver’s OLED screen shows you levels, battery status, mute, and channel selection. While we generally recommend getting closer to the subject and using a dual-system solution to avoid recording the camera's noisy preamps, in many one-shooter, run-and-gun situations, that's not always possible. This video is designed to give you an idea of what some of these microphones sound like in such situations. We begin by listening to the poor audio recorded from the built-in mic on a DSLR, followed by examples of how six camera-mountable microphones sound, individually. With the growing popularity of using iPads and iPhones to record video, more and more people are running into the same problem- how to get good sound. While the camera is great and the built-in mic is probably fine for phone calls and FaceTime, videographers demand more professional options. In this video, Rob from B&H takes us through some third-party audio solutions to consider, from entry-level consumer up to ENG-grade professional gear. The video explores both wireless systems like the Azden WMS-PRO+I and Sennheiser EW 100 G3 as well as hard-wire options including the Polsen MO-PL1 and Rode VideoMic GO. Since the mic input on the iPad and iPhone wasn't designed for pro audio gear, the video also explores some adapters and mounts to consider when rigging up your mic, and delves into the issues of audio monitoring.
