In the following video, Rob Rives, from B&H, discusses the new  RØDE RodeLink Wireless Filmmaker Kit, a camera-mounted digital wireless microphone solution. With the system mounted on a Canon 5D mk III, the video explores the system’s 100-meter wireless range and ease of use in pairing the transmitter to the receiver when using the 2.4GHz spectrum. The system supports 8 discrete channels with 8,000 channel combinations and utilizes dual internal antennas at 90-degree angles for maximum signal radiation and space diversity at both ends. The video demonstrates the system’s shoe mount, which allows you to attach the receiver to your camera, as well as the additional 3/8" thread for expanded mounting options. Powered by a pair of AA batteries or via a USB port, both the transceiver and receiver have a battery life of at least 7 hours. The receiver’s OLED screen shows you levels, battery status, mute, and channel selection. The video further explores the system’s user interface, as well as the gain, pad, and mute functions, to ensure your camera receives a signal at the appropriate level. The video also demonstrates the included omnidirectional lavalier mic (with foam windscreen), and shares Rives’s advice on getting the most of the system in real-life applications. An update to the DR-70D, the DR-701D now represents Tascam's flagship audio recorder for single-shooter video production. Designed specifically as an audio-recording solution for DSLR video applications, the DR-701D boasts dual built-in omnidirectional microphones and four XLR/TRS inputs with phantom power. In addition, the recorder features time code support, HDMI Start/Stop, improved audio quality, and the track count has been expanded from four to six so each XLR input can be recorded to an individual track and the stereo mix of those inputs can also be recorded to two tracks. While we generally recommend getting closer to the subject and using a dual-system solution to avoid recording the camera's noisy preamps, in many one-shooter, run-and-gun situations, that's not always possible. This video is designed to give you an idea of what some of these microphones sound like in such situations. We begin by listening to the poor audio recorded from the built-in mic on a DSLR, followed by examples of how six camera-mountable microphones sound, individually. The featured microphones include: Polsen SCL-1075, RØDE VideoMic Go, sE Electronics ProMic Laser, Sennheiser MKE 400, Shure VP83, and the Senal SCS-98.
