The first thing that will strike you when you open the box is how large the lens is. 72mm lens cover size. Its not heavy, just large. If I want to go compact with my NEX 6, I will use my kit lens. For me the size of this lens is NOT an issue, but many NEX owners bought the camera for its compact nature and may find this a deal breaker.
Weight of the lens: I have installed the supplied Sony neck strap that came with the camera. It is relatively narrow, but considering the weight of the stock camera, it has worked well for me. I can attest that with this lens attached, I walked around for 3 hours with the stock Sony neck strap and the combined weight did not bother me at all.
Next issue would be price. Not necessarily the stand alone price of this lens, but for the buyer who is coming into the NEX market, they may find the combined costs for the body and lens steep. For $1,350.00 you have other options out there for a body and comparable focal range lens. You have to really have bought into the NEX look and feel to make this your first purchase. I personally have been completely smitten by the NEX 6 and would have no other camera and both of the above listed negatives don't matter to me but if I didn't have the love for this camera......
I have used the lens for two shoots so far. The first was a portrait shoot. The large lens size does give off a more professional appearance to the model. The F4 aperture seemed to work fine for the shoot. I used two flashes with a handheld speed of 1/160 and it forced me to use a 400 ISO for correct exposure. I prefer a 200 ISO as this seems to be the sweet spot for the NEX6 but the pictures still came out fine. Focusing was surprisingly fast. At a shooting distance of 8' the depth of field focal range is around 6" so you can get a nice sharp image across most of the head. You will not get a completely washed out background but its blurred out enough. This lens will be great for family portraits because you need the greater depth of field for multiple stacked groups of people. For single subject shoots, I would prefer a larger aperture for that nice blown out background look.
Next shoot was a handheld shoot on a beach. I found the zoom feature to be very quick. The entire zoom feature is enclosed which I really liked. If you shut the camera off for a bit, then turn it back on, the lens returns to 18mm. I understand the need to retract in other lens but this lens has no exposed moving portions. The zoom is quite fast so it wasn't a huge drawback. I kinda wish it reset in the middle of its zoom range which would give me the option to go in either direction much faster for a quick draw snapshot. It only has one zoom speed that I could tell but again, it was pretty fast.
I shot some high contrast scenes across the entire zoom range and was surprised that I saw VERY little purple fringing....like barely there at all, and probably the best lens I have owned for this type of shot. I can say I noticed a little softness to the lens...BUT...after checking out my camera settings, I saw that I had done this entire shoot in the portrait mode. I am not positive but I highly suspect the images will be much sharper if I had set the camera in landscape or any other setting than the soft portrait setting. Even so, the pictures turned out really nice even in portrait mode. Birds feathers showed enough detail to make me happy. I also photographed flying seagulls as they took off from a stand still. The lens was able to track and focus very well and I got probably 75% of those shots in focus (not always framed the best though :) ) I shot @ a 4000 shutter speed, 200 Iso, and of course f4. Barrel distortion is handled better than the kit lens @ 18mm. So far, I can not see a reason why I will use another lens on my camera unless I have a specialty use. If this lens were f2.8, I'm pretty sure it would never come off.

I want to like this lens more than I do but it has its compromises. The size is very manageable with the A6000, it's not heavy at all, but with it, you can't use the flash for fear of shadows. That's a big drawback. The pics have been very clear and sharp, but there is noticeable vignetting at the corners. It being a power zoom, there's no scale to tell you what focal length you're at, just a little zoom gauge in the viewfinder. No for me. I know I need to use it a bit more before I decide if I will keep it but one might be better served with a few prime lenses instaed of this, in a non-video capacity anyway. Build quality is very very high by the way, so at least you feel like you've gotten what you paid for. And B&H is always great to do business with, in my experience.

Fast focus for Sony A6500 4k video. A must have for any kit. Complement the kit with the 10-18mm for those wide angle shots. I have spent days with this as my only lens on my camera. Great to use with the Zhiyun Crane stabilizer.

I bought this lens to shoot pictures in a gym at my sons basketball games. I have used it about 6 times so far and love this lens. some of the gyms were very low light and it did a great job. I have not used it for video yet but the movement is very steady and quiet.

Comments about Sony E PZ 18-105mm f/4 G OSS Lens:

This lens is great on my a6300 and it's on my camera almost all the time. I shoot a lot of video with it on a gimbal that the autofocus is great! The zoom and focus by wire took a great deal of getting used to and I'm still not a huge fan of that part of it but the image quality is great. I shoot RAW and the distortion at the far it pretty bad but easily corrected in LR. Overall, great lens

Comments about Sony E PZ 18-105mm f/4 G OSS Lens:

Since the day I bought it, it has been my primary lens. It has a good useful range for walk around or really anything. The lens is nice and sharp and I'm getting pretty good quality images even in low light conditions (compared to the other lenses). Its my favorite everyday lens.

Very happy with lens

Comments about Sony E PZ 18-105mm f/4 G OSS Lens:

I am very happy with this lens. I had tried the Zeiss 16-70 lens and the one I got was very sharp in the center third but the sides were soft. I returned it to B&H and bought the 18-105 and find it is superior and only 2/3th the cost. Plus has a much larger reach. Read the reviews of both lenses before purchasing.

Comments about Sony E PZ 18-105mm f/4 G OSS Lens:

I got this lens after looking at tons of reviews online. Considering I don't have access to a lot of Sony lenses in my area. This one does it all. Sharper and cleaner images than my PZ kit. Covers a large focal range, although I did struggle with the pin-cushion distortion the first time I used it but haven't noticed it since. Probably I connected the camera to the internet where it might have activated the correction..not sure, but I'm happier. The only downside to this lens is, it gets harder to maintain a focal length if you want repeatable shots like Corp. portraits, but that would be a prime's job anyways. My use for this lens is the video work where it performs perfectly. First buy from B&H went pretty smooth. Gearing up to buy some other E-mount lenses from this store.

A terrific all-purpose lens for sony aps-c cameras.

Comments about Sony E PZ 18-105mm f/4 G OSS Lens:

I have a Sony a6300 and bought the lens specifically for that camera. The 18-105 range fits most uses, the image quality seems to be excellent, even at the extremes, and it's a bonus to have an actual power zoom as I use the camera mostly for videography. It's a bit long and a bit heavy - for a gimbal - but can still be balanced and used. It feels better in the hand, with the camera. Extra bonus - I'm also using it on my old FS100 and getting superior results than the old 18-200 "kit" lens. Build quality is excellent - better than I expected at this price point, and there isn't much reason to pull it off the camera. I also now have no reason, for what I do, to buy primes in this range. So it ends up saving money in the long run while delivering decent imagery for 4K use.

Comments about Sony E PZ 18-105mm f/4 G OSS Lens:

I haven't really compared the quality of the glass to say my canon lenses. But this provides a nice focal range and I love have a powered zoom control. I shoot more video and the zoom control is a must have. I also love the fact that all the movements are internal so you don't get a lot of weight variations which comes in handy when the lens and camera is mounted on a gimbal. This is a must have in your bag for your Sony APS-C cameras.

Comments about Sony E PZ 18-105mm f/4 G OSS Lens:

On the 6300, this is a great general lens. It focuses quickly and accurately most of the time and images are sharp. My only real complaint is that the zoom ring is not really accessible when the hood is on backwards. This means you HAVE to take it off before you can start shooting which could cost you a shot if you are pulling the camera out of you bag.

Nice piece of glass!

Comments about Sony E PZ 18-105mm f/4 G OSS Lens:

This lens will probably be the work horse for my Sony a6300. AF is fast and precise. Lens may well be bigger than the a6300 body!? Does make handling the camera a whole lot nicer! Turning the Zoom ring is not like a Nikon lens zoom. Just different, but like the a6300, it's just a matter of getting use to the new feel of a different camera system! I like the zoom range, effective 24mm to 157.5mm, like the constant f4 across the range and the images are looking very good! So price point and image quality make this lens a definite keeper!!

Very nice multi-purpose lens

Comments about Sony E PZ 18-105mm f/4 G OSS Lens:

I bought this lens for my wife to use on her A6000. For the price the lens has worked very well and produces sharp clean images.

Some distortion at the wide end as to be expected but nothing that cant be easily corrected in post. I have not used this lens for video applications so cannot comment there. The zoom and focus rings feel very nice and buttery smooth. Auto focus is quick and accurate

I have compared this lens with the Zeiss 16-70 f/4 and the Zeiss is slightly better but for the cost in my opinion is not justified.

Comments about Sony E PZ 18-105mm f/4 G OSS Lens:

I just recently made the switch from Canon to Sony and this Sony lens, so I'm still getting used to things, but so far I am very impressed with this lens. As I said in the headline, it is very smooth and very crisp; the images are far better and sharper than I was getting from the Canon 24-105 L. The range from 18-105 makes it a great general-use lens, good for everything from architecture to landscape to portraiture.
