I am only going to comment on the kit 18-140 lens. Not the camera. The reason is this lens doesn't even come close to giving what the camera is capable of. I honesty wish I just bought the body.

I have never ever had to fine tune a lens to a camera before. This one needed it. Blurry at full view. I had to give it a +9 in the D7100 AF fine tuning controls. A +9! And it is still not as sharp as it should be for the money this lens costs.

I tested the camera body with two other DX nikon kit lenses, an 18-55 and the 55-200, neither needed AF fine tuning so I have to believe this is the lens or lens/body combination.

Now, as a general walk around lens, ya, ok, but it defeats the purpose, in my opinion, if every time you take a nice shot you have to say to yourself, well....I can't blow it up. At 18mm it isn't too bad if you use a tripod, 55mm you cringe, at 140 forget about it.

I'm not blaming Nikon or anyone but myself. You get cheap, you get cheap gear.....I knew better. After the bite wears off my credit card I will invest in better glass. Frankly, I haven't got a clue how good this camera is and won't until I put good glass on it.

Comments about Nikon D7100 DSLR Camera with 18-140mm Lens:

I recently bought this camera after spending a lot of time in research. Though I am still learning photography, I would say, this camera is probably the best camera one could buy at this price range. While doing the research, I came across many suggestions like D3300/D5300 would be a nice camera for beginners as D7100 would be a more professional and costly camera. However what I am thinking is different, if you have a taste for photography and that is the reason that drives you to buy a Nikon DSLR, then you can buy a D7100. It gives you a lot of confidence and flexibility and a feeling of achieving what you are trying to capture. With my D7100, I feel I am not constrained by any of the camera limitations, but only I need to do is to learn the art better.Overall D7100 gives me the pride and pleasure of owning a nice, value for money and well recognized camera which I hope would accompany me for the next few years during my travel experiments.

What I mean by Feels like a quality camera, now a day the cameras are mostly smaller in size.I'm used to the camera feeling like I have something in my hand of substance but that's just me.The camera does so much more than my old one,it's going to take some time to learn all that it can do.I'm from the old school and like manual mode even with the automation.Lot going on now but after the 1st of the year I will have more time to get into it and play. From Nashville Tn,Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all fellow Nikon Enthusiast

Comments about Nikon D7100 DSLR Camera with 18-140mm Lens:

I am a full-time commercial photographer with full-frame Nikons and 10 FX Nikkor lenses. When I learned that I was going to have a weekend in New York I decided to get a smaller camera. I chose a Sony Alpha 6000 mirrorless camera for the trip. For me, a big mistake. Good camera, but too dependent on its menu system, thus not a good choice, for me, for New York's stret action. So, I sold the Sony and bought a Nikon D7100. The B&H holiday pricing and service superb. The D7100 is an excellent travel camera. Sharp, pro features, and quick, intuitive handling. Using just one body and the excellent 18-140 lens allows me to simply enjoy a travel experience. For my commercial work, I'll continue with my FX bodies and lenses, but for vacation or travel, the D7100 and 18-140 are outstanding.

Comments about Nikon D7100 DSLR Camera with 18-140mm Lens:

With the rate of change in DSLR cameras it's easy to dismiss last gen bodies. With this kit, that would be a mistake. The crop sensor makes for AF points that practically fill the frame (there are times I wish I has the same spread on my D800E), making AF functions for sports and wildlife easy and accurate. the 24meg sensor renders pleasing images, though the low-light/high ISO shots are not quite up to the latest bodies. But, that and the small buffer are the only knocks on the D7100. Throw in the solid 18-140mm lens and for right at a grand you have the perfect walkaround/travel kit, second body/shooter body, wildlife and sports body setup for anything near that price.

This is an upgrade from my trusty D5100. Have been using it for past few days and loving this already. Got this with a 18-140mm lens which i hope will be my travel/walk around lens.

Slightly heavier moving up from D5100 but I knew that was the case before buying.

Comments about Nikon D7100 DSLR Camera with 18-140mm Lens:

I'm a semi-pro wildlife photographer on a rather tight budget. After heaps of reading and research, this camera seemed the best thing my money could buy for what I needed. As an upgrade from the D5000 (which was my previous camera), it is like comparing a Ford to a Land Rover. But compared to the Canon 5D (which I also used a lot), it's got its ups and downs. The D7100 seems to be one of the bests (if not the best) DX cameras Nikon can offer. It's got a 24mpx sensor with truly an amazing resolution (indeed, the lack of the low pass filter make it extra sharp, and, arguably, even more than some FX ones) – furthermore, the 1.3x crop mode makes 18mpx photos that still hold brilliant detail. With that, I can use my 300mm lens as if it was almost a 600mm. If you can't afford FX cameras, and a proper 600mm, and/or if you don't fancy carrying that much weight every time you go wildlife shooting, the D7100 may be the best way to go.ISO sensivity is nothing from another world - it does relatively well up to ISO 1000, if you don't mind a bit of wise noise reduction on ACR. I wouldn't use anything above that for serious photos, though. Still, if you fancy lots of night shots (except long exposures), I would advise against any DX camera and lens (who seem to start on f/3.5).The buffer is pretty decent. On 1.3x crop mode, it takes up to 7 on raw mode. With a fast card, I never had to worry too much about it filling up. Again, let me remind that this is still not a top of the line pro camera, and when I say I never had to worry about it I mean "I never used a D4s to taste the difference".It has two SD slots, which I find quite useful for backing up photos (you can even make an in-camera manual backup after a long shoot)The photometry system took me a bit of getting used to. Instead of favouring light areas, it favoures dark ones, which means that it sometimes overexposes in order not to underexpose. After a bit of head scratching, I decided this was a good thing, because I get less noise from recovering an overexposed area then from an underexposed one.Now the lens was rather disappointing. Not that I regret buying it, for its useful to have an 18-140mm, but its not what I would call impressively sharp. Nothing that can't be corrected on ACR, though, so I'm still happy with it.So yes, as a semi-pro wildlife photographer on a budget, I am really happy with it.Oh, and I have noticed that it is louder than the D5000 and the 5D. And the "quiet shutter mode" is pretty much useless if you really want to be quiet. D5000 gets a point for that.

Great quality, very detaild pictures (thanks to the 24mp). takes beautiful long exposure pictures. works quite well in low light.

the shutter sound is a little loud at times but I'ts nothing major. and it can be heavy if you hold it for a long amout of time. (i suggest getting a strap/holster with it)
