The price was right for this iMac. I weighed a lot of options and even broke down and made a list of what I use a computer for, how I use it and what things I was definitely not willing to budge on. I saw the retina displays on the new 27" iMac and the macbook pros and instantly fell in love with the crisp beauty of their screens. The iMac was cost prohibitive and I wasn't certain I needed a macbook (plus the uptick in price). My dusty near 8 year old laptop hadn't moved from my desk in years-- and the few times I took it with me traveling I didn't even use it. I have an iPad mini and an iPhone. Traveling isn't meant for workhorses and I figured the few times I need a computer while traveling I could borrow one (friends, hotels, work, or internet cafes). So I decided I could junk my old TV and use an iMac as my media station at home...exactly what I was missing (previously watched everything on the mini). So it was really down between the different iMac models and the smaller screen won out. A) price was better B) mouse tracking was easier c) i am a recent complete apple convert and I wanted to test drive before dropping SO MUCH $$$ d) I can use this as a trade in, secondary computer later or as a lovely hand me down.

Positives: media station a boon, speakers are nice, photo editing looks to be much nicer on a larger screen, large hard drive means I get to have my entire music library in a native setting, all my apple devices are synced for ease of syncing, some things really do just work better, I like force quit, parallel for running other operating systems the peripherals are excellent. Love the magic mouse. Am considering getting the track pad just because it essentially mimics a touch screen with out actually smudging the screen.

negatives: some websites (Amazon, Facebook) are atrociously slow using safari. simple fix, downloaded Firefox, which I used on my other computer anyways. I just like the ability to sync between devices with safari (possibly the reason it was so slow), sadly, the price is still steep even at a somewhat budget desktop all in one. I seriously could have gotten an arguably better computer that was easier to navigate being a windows user most of my life. Windows 8 isn't all that terrible, just annoying. Similarly annoying to OS X is annoying, my external hard rives that were formatted to PCs will allow me to transfer data from them, but not to them without reformatting, basically, some creature comforts from windows are just missing. There are tweaks, but I haven't set them up yet, or necessarily found them. But honestly, I have a very ambivalent attitude regarding them. Sacrifices for some gains that in this day and age are pretty convenient gains. Once I become use to this new monster of a machine, I think I won't mind.

But d*mn, that price. Seriously. And the inevitable, this comp will be super outdated in about 5 seconds after typing this review.

If you want a not gouging you decent mac, get this model. Play around with it, make your modifications, and then you'll not even think about using your computer. It really will just work. Then, once retina quality screens are the norm, get one of those beauties. Seriously.

I was worried about retina ruining my ability to tolerate all the other screens I deal with on a daily basis, a so I chose not to beautiful screen.

Nothing could look better on your desktop. But unless you are under 40, you are going to need lots of help with the interface. The fonts and check boxes are so small, you need a magnifying glass to use them. The telephone support people have infinite patience, and the third one I asked actually knew how to help with the font problem by adjusting the resolution, which unfortunatelye degrades the image, and did tell me that Apple is aware of the problem. The Migration Assistant program will help you move some of your files from a PC, but then you have to find them. Forget it if you're a fan of Quicken. You'll need to buy their program for Mac, a very inferior choice. I had one of the original candy-colored IMacs, and that was a much friendlier computer than this one. Granted that I'm changing from a Vista PC to a Mac, but I already own and use the IPad and IPod Touch, both gorgeously easy to see and learn compared to using the IMac. I predict that Apple will abandon the desktop market altogether soon and focus on mobile models only. The IMac is perfect for the design collection in a museum, but it can't compare in functionality and ease of use with the other Apple products.

So far so good. Expecting a reliable product (albeit without desirable dvd drive, etc.). A less substantial machine than my 24" iMac.

Comments about Apple 21.5" iMac Desktop Computer (Late 2013):

A great machine with a marvelous screen. More I can't say since I had a phone call during the startup and when I got back to the computer the screen shutdown and asked me for a password. I don't remember making the password so maybe someone can help me get back to this wonderful buy. I was amazed by the sound which was absolutely beautiful for my poor ears.

Comments about Apple 21.5" iMac Desktop Computer (Late 2013):

Bought this iMac to replace an iMac we purchased in 2008. Researched a lot and decided on this model and this company. VERY satisfied with both product and shipping. Arrived quickly and as most Macs go, setup was a breeze. We are loving the faster speed and improvements. The price was great. Highly recommend.

I bought this to replace my 10 year old Imac. I looked at used and they were close to the same price but often did not include mouse, keyboard and 8 GB ram. Plus, several of the used ones I looked at did not include some of the standard apple software.

Great Buy!

Comments about Apple 21.5" iMac Desktop Computer (Late 2013):

I have always been a MS Windows user and briefly used Linux Red Hat. The built-in spying of MS Windows 10 convinced me to try Apple. GOODBYE WINDOWS FOREVER! The iMac 21.5 computer hardware (Late 2013) is outstanding as is the software (OS X Yosemite). I do not edit photos or anything like that; this computer is used for general purposes. I find the built in programs (which can read MS Office Word and Excel) to be adequate for my needs. This, along with the savings of no longer needing to buy anti-virus software further convinces me that Apple is the best choice in computers. The quality of the generic screen (non-Retina version) is exceedingly better than any Dell, IBM or ASUS PC I have owned. The clarity and depth of color is markedly better than those of the PC's. If you are familiar with Apple computers you probably are not interested in this older model. For those looking to decrease the cost of an iMac or are first time Apple buyers this is an outstanding value. I am absolutely satisfied with this purchase.

Everything one would expect for an iMac

Comments about Apple 21.5" iMac Desktop Computer (Late 2013):

Purchased this to replace my 2006 iMac. It is everything I expected. Great display, fast... The only downside for me was that the transfer from my old Mac was not seamless - many files and apps did not transfer due to incompatibility with older OS. It took some effort to move photos and music files over but in the end I was successful. Hopefully this one lasts as long as the one it replaced! :)
