Firstly, everyone who purchases Sony a7 or a7r should consider to buy this adapter (or LA-EA4)eventually becasue so far as, Sony hasn't provided sufficient amount of FE lens. Therefore, users need to buy LA-EA adpater in order to use Sony Alpha mount DSLR lens with A7/A7r.

Besides, LA-EA3 or LA-EA4 are not that expensive compared to buy Sony DSLT A99. LA-EA3 or LA-EA4 enable user to use Sony Alpha lenses just like A99 with reasonable price.

I selected LA-EA3 rather LA-EA4 because I normally take video clips rather photograph, so Autofocus doesn't matter. Top priority is light weight and low-profile to get mobility.

This is essential gear for someone who are very serious photographer or enthusiast.

I built my kit around the Sony Alpha A-mount system, so when I picked up a used NEX-7, I figured this adapter would allow me to add the NEX body to the kit without need for E-mount lenses. The NEX is a good companion camera to my A77.

The adapter is good quality, fits tightly to the body and the lens, and when attached you don't notice it at all. The only issue is the auto focus speed.

I heard about some people having issues with lens compatibility, but that wasn't an issue with all my standard A-mount lenses from Sony. It works with my 35mm, 50mm, kit 18-55, 18-135, 55-300, 55-200 with proper focus and metering, as well as all focus/lens info transmitted to the body.

This would be a 5/5 adapter if it wasn't for the horrible auto focus speed. Its not slow. its ridiculously slow. For instance, the 18-135 f3.5-5.6 SAM, from far focus, near focus, and pre-focused on an object, it took the lens 5.5 seconds to find focus in low light as well as bright light. This same lens on the a77 takes under 1 second in super low light and too quick to time in full light. This performance seems to be consistent across all of my lenses.

The only saving grace here is the focus peaking, so manual focus is a great option. If you are using this tripod mounted, or handheld photographic still subjects, etc, the focus is spot-on. It may take a while to grab focus, but when it does, it is pin-sharp.

I have tried different focus and camera settings with no change on focus speed. If this was ever fixed with a firmware upgrade, it would be a 5/5 hands down.

The tripod mount does a great job of offsetting a heavier lens against the weight of a NEX or even an a6000 body. It is a very well made product, with the electronics to match, with only the one downfall.

Guess I'll have to start shopping for some E-mount lenses to give me the focus speed I need.

No problems with fit for my Sony a6000. Now I can use my old non digital lenses] from my old Minolta camera with A lenses. Sometimes I can use on autofocus and some time with manual either way I get beautiful photos.

Dissappointing

Comments about Sony A-Mount to E-Mount Lens Adapter (Black):

While advertised as permitting the use of A Mount lenses on the E Mount system, it should also be disclosed up front that by no means does that result in performance equivalent to native E Mount lenses.  Autofocus remains significantly slower.  Continuous Autofocus works but only if the subject moves slowly.  Focus tracking, eye autofocus are not available.  On the A7RII and A6500, autofocus is much faster on my Sigma 150-600 using the MC-11 adapter (although that adapter does not make continuous autofocus available at all)  I give it three stars simply because it is nice to be able to use A Mount lenses.

Comments about Sony A-Mount to E-Mount Lens Adapter (Black):

Looking for a longer lens option for wildlife photography, the A-E mount Lens Adapter is the answer. Fast auto-focus using center and wide focus modes on my Sony a6300. Less expensive than the LA-EA4 and faster auto-focus using the camera's AF capability. I used both the Sony 70-400 G master lens and the Tamron 150-600 with success!

Not what I expected

Comments about Sony A-Mount to E-Mount Lens Adapter (Black):

I have a Sony A6000 and purchased this LA-EA3 adapter to work with a new Sigma 18-300mm zoom lens. It's a solid item, but I'm returning it because this adapter together with the Sigma lens doesn't allow auto focus. I found out I have to manually focus for every shot. The LA-EA4 would allow auto focus, but would also cost an additional $150 which I'm not willing to spend at this time. I'm rating the adapter in the middle because it's not good or bad; just didn't work with my Sigma lens. Just a side note, I'm returning the Sigma lens as well because it's STICKY. I feel like I'm going to break it when I zoom in or out.

Comments about Sony A-Mount to E-Mount Lens Adapter (Black):

Seems well built and works with my A mount 16-50mm lens. Focus seemed very fast, as I moved the camera from distant objects to near objects, even in video mode. I'm using it on my new A6300. Haven't had a chance yet to try my other A mount lenses, but expect them to work as well. Sale price made it even better.

Great for manual focus

Comments about Sony A-Mount to E-Mount Lens Adapter (Black):

I purchased the full frame adapter that doesn't have the mirror/focussing motor built in. I use it for a Minolta 300mm f2.8 telephoto lens. I mount the lens and adapter to a Sony A5100. By using focus peaking I can achieve very sharp focus pretty darn fast. I'm totally pleased with the combination for wildlife photography. This lens is a Minolta 'G' lens so it is very sharp even wide open. With the adapter installed the auto exposure functions work well, just no auto focus. With the Sony 1.4 teleconverter installed the iris quits working so the lens is always wide open creating a 420mm f4 lens, which is totally usable. With the tele converter you have to use shutter manual exposure, which isn't too bad.

This adapter is just plain junk.

Comments about Sony A-Mount to E-Mount Lens Adapter (Black):

I bought this adapter to mount A-mount lenses on an Alpha 6000 camera I purchased for my wife who has undergone shoulder surgery and can not hold a heavy camera. I tried using it on SAM and SSM lenses. Neither type of lens worked very well. Actually, they didn't work at all except in the manual focus mode. SAM lenses failed to acquire focus accurately the majority of times attempted. On these lenses the camera kept searching without much success. On SSM lenses there was less searching but the results were just as inaccurate. Additionally, When the shutter button was depressed all way both types of lenses made a slight shift in the focus making the resulting focus less accurate.

I gave this device a one star rating because their is no zero rating. I am pleased with one thing about this adapter. I was considering buying an A7r II camera because I wanted to upgrade my camera body. I have the following Carl Zeiss lenses: 85 f1.4, 135 f1.8, 16-35 f2.8, 24-70 f2.8. In addition, I have the Sony G 70-210 II, 70-300 II, and the 70-400 f4-5.6. Giving up those lenses would be hard to do as they are the best glass I have owned as a professional photographer. That is saying a lot as I came out of the film age where I used nothing but Hasselblad equipment. My first choice would be an upgraded Sony A mount body. But, Sony has let me down. What is worse, they don't even give me any hope. Thanks to my E-mount experiment, I am thinking maybe Sony is spelled "NIKON". It will be hard and costly to make the move, but I am thinking I have to. Certainly, I hold no hope that I can use my A mount lenses on the Alpha 7 series bodies and if I am going to invest in new E-mount glass any brand is open to consideration.

Sorry Sony but you have lost my confidence completely! You adapter does not work!

Works Well, but Some Difficulties

Comments about Sony A-Mount to E-Mount Lens Adapter (Black):

Why can't we just have a standard mount so adapters are unnecessary? Still, if you have to have one, this one is fine. Seems to be sharp in my first series of images. Problems do crop up when your using non-Sony lenses. I use the Cotton vest with a two-part connector so you can both use a tripod and the vest mounts. This mount I applied to the adapter for a better center of gravity. In the field, though it meant breaking out my Allen wrench to remove the connector from the adapter and then reattaching it to the new non-Sony lens. Ugh! I don't have time for this messing around when I'm trying to catch some special light during a spectacular sunset.

I recently upgraded from an older Sony DSLR to the A7R ii. This adapter allows me to use my old lenses on my new camera. I've only had it a couple weeks, but it is easy to use, lightweight, and from what I can see durable. It should be just the ticket.

    Works sort of....

Comments about Sony A-Mount to E-Mount Lens Adapter (Black):

Let me start with, I own a Sony Alpha 3000. It was a purchase I made last year. It was on super discount. With inability to find an assortment of various lenses. I thought I would try this adapter and an a-mount Sony prime lens.
I say it works sort of because. Although the auto focus actually functions, it's constantly hunting to focus. And when you depress the shutter it takes forever fo it to actually snap the photo. It maybe ok for still images with a a tripod. I like the fact that the aperture is an adjustable with 2.8. When used in tandem with a tripod and still photos it doesn't seem to have lens flare or distortion.
It's not the greatest. For anything other than stills.

Comments about Sony A-Mount to E-Mount Lens Adapter (Black):

I use this on my A7II so I can use all my A-mount Minolta and Sony lenses. AF works fine with my Sony Zeiss 24-70mm f2.8 ZA and Sony 80-200mm f2.8 G.

I do have to focus manually with other Minolta's primes lenses I have ranging from 20mm to 135mm AF some dated back to the late '80s. That's the downside but I rather manually focus these lenses than having an extra translucent mirror between the lens and sensor.

If you still have some nice old Minolta's AF lenses and use A7 series camera than you'll need to get one of this.
