I originally purchased the D600 and after much ado, got a refund. The D600 was magical with regard to image quality. Such wonderful potential. But the spots were a real problem.

The D610 is just as magical with regard to quality. It feels great to work with. I like the camera a lot for its potential with regard to creating beautiful landscapes and cityscapes.

I find the focus system a challenge. I am hoping that this is something I can fix with more experience/usage of the camera rather than the camera itself being the problem!

Unfortunately, after about 2k shots, I have found spots on upper left corner on images shot with sky background at f10. It's a bit of deja vu but I am hoping this does not spread like it did with the D600.

Sometimes cleaning this up in post posed real problems with the D600 images. At this price point, it's not acceptable to be forced to work on an image in post due to spots. There will certainly be times I want to shoot at high apertures and so I expect to be able to use the full range of the camera without compromise. It becomes especially important for images I want to submit somewhere.

I've included a picture with spots on upper left. This one is very easy to clean up so not a real issue. However, if spreading occurs with further usage of the camera (like it did with the D600, even after the shutter was replaced) then I am really going to regret having switched from Canon!

I look forward to testing out and working with the video aspect of the D610.

When I first got this camera I was so excited, the image quality was perfect, and the low light capabilities where amazing. But when I Started to use the camera more outdoors I noticed tons of oil and dust spots on the top left corner. It pretty much looks disgusting from F/7 and above. I contacted B and H but unfortunately they said that since it was out the 30 day return period, I needed to contact Nikon. I was in shock due to the fact that I always heard B and H had an amazing customer service. It really does not make sense to me why they cant replace or fix the camera, the 30 day period was not enough time to make sure it did not have this problem since I had not used the camera at a low F stop yet. If you are reading this please, please, please make sure you buy from Nikon or another camera store. I saved up for a over a year to buy this camera, working extremely hard. Now I am just speechless and frankly very disappointed. I hope someone at B and H is reading this and will have the heart to help me.

Solid and Rugged Full Frame

Comments about Nikon D610 DSLR Camera (Body Only):

I use two of these at work and now one at home. They just get the job done with great photos year after year. No mechanical issues and they wear like iron. Perhaps one of the least expensive FX cameras but certainly one of the best.

Yet another oil spots complaint

Comments about Nikon D610 DSLR Camera (Body Only):

I'm honestly quite disappointed.  I had heard of the oil spot issue with the D600 but had heard that the D610 had alleviated the issue.  Unfortunately this is not true.  Some of the first photos I took were with f/22 and they seemed fine.  Now at f/6.3, Less than 3 months into owning the camera they are noticeable and require correction in post.

Affordable (sorta) FX format

Comments about Nikon D610 DSLR Camera (Body Only):

I've been wanting an FX Nikon since the D600 came out. Bought the D610 refurbished for a substantial saving over new. So far, I'm feeling pretty smart. Outward appearance is as new, and so far seems to function as new. It appears I only got a 90 day warranty, but that should give me ample time to try it out thoroughly. After a week, I can say it does take pictures. Also, I'm going to need to read the instruction manual. It doesn't feel quite as intuitive as my D200 did, but then, it has more features to learn. I was bummed, for awhile, that the new electromagnetic diaphragm lenses aren't compatible with my D200. The 610 solves that, although I was thinking I might need to buy new DX camera to more get reach out of my teles. That, of course, wasn't so smart. 24 megapixels allows ample room to crop. And it's nice being able to make the most of my wide angle lenses. So far, focus seems fast and accurate, and exposures look very good. Prices for a used D200 are so low that I don't think it makes sense to sell mine, so as soon as I learn how to use the D610, the D200 will make a nice backup.

Boom!

Comments about Nikon D610 DSLR Camera (Body Only):

I was always told there was difference between a full frame and crop frame image quality, but I had no idea! Upgraded from a D7200 (a great camera in itself) and was amazed at the color accuracy and sharpness. Works so incredibly well in low light. Perfect for portraits and studio work.

The only negative I see, in comparison to the D7200, is that there are not as many focal points. This makes the D610 not as nice for sports or wildlife, in my opinion.

Entry Level Full-Frame

Comments about Nikon D610 DSLR Camera (Body Only):

This is the only full-frame I own. I am quite happy with the camera. I have had it for around six months. Getting used to how many more functions there are compared to my Nikon D3200 didn't turn out to be as intimidating as the D610 manual made it seem it would be. The use of the camera, if you are already familiar with Nikons, is fairly intuitive. I am very happy with the quality of photos, the functions built into the camera body itself, the amount of memory taken by each image captured (not too big of a memory hog), the sturdiness or durability of the equipment. Like other reviewers, I have found the autofocus functionality the most difficult thing to learn with comfort. But, a few months into using it, and experimenting with different features in autofocus, and I'm quite happy with that, as well. Given the difference in price between this full-frame model and other Nikon full-frame models, I think the D610 is a great choice for me.

Image quality is excellent. Functionality is good.

Comments about Nikon D610 DSLR Camera (Body Only):

Having owned a Nikon D70s and a D300s I'm able to compare the D610 with the performance and functionality of previous generation Nikon's. My lens lineup has remained the same over all three bodies, so differences in image quality are a function of technique and to some degree camera image quality. ISO makes a very big difference here, especially when compared to the D70s .

I primarily shoot landscape and wildlife images, and the D610 is my favorite body so far in terms of image quality. I miss the speed and ease use of my D300s, but I am comfortable with the ergonomics and button placement of the D610 in comparison. I would like a higher frame rate for certain situations, but I'm still able to get most shots I'm after with the D610.

I've used the body in various weather conditions including light rain, and I've never had any issues. I was confident taking my D300 out in wet weather, and have become the same with the D610.

The body is comfortable in my hands, and buttons are intuitive.

All in all a great camera that I've yet to fully master. If there is room for improvement it is in providing even higher ISO usability and a faster frame rate. The image quality I'm getting out of the D610 is only limited by my capabilities at this time.

A great body I would recommend to anyone looking for a full frame sensor at a decent price.

Great Camera, bad customer service!

By Justin

Comments about Nikon D610 DSLR Camera (Body Only):

I bought the D610 roughly 45 days ago and have taken great pictures with it, its a great camera. I'm a amateur photographer so for my skill set it is perfect with plenty of room to grow. Sometime within this period the auto focus went out, not sure when, usually I use a manual lens. I called B&H and the rep informed me there was nothing they could do since it was past the 30 days, I explained my situation and the only response I got was to take it to Nikon. The customer service rep also informed me that it wouldn't make sense for them to take the camera back since they would have to foot the bill or re-sale it. I always thought when a product was sold the business should stand behind it but after that 30 days they wash their hands of you. Overall the camera is great minus the autofocus, which will be fixed but I would suggest buying straight from Nikon and cut out these middlemen.

MY DREAM CAMERA - FINALLY BOUGHT IT!

By Miss Smiley

Comments about Nikon D610 DSLR Camera (Body Only):

I have always been a Nikon girl and have been saving (and staring at my vision board) for so long. Finally worked up from photoshoots to be able to afford this beauty, and B&H could not have made it easier to purchase! I was thinking of buying used, simply because I was in a time crunch to buy, and didn't have enough for a new camera. The used camera (from somewhere else) was only $150 less than brand new on B&H, and came with nothing but the body. B&H had a great sale going on AND free expedited shipping, including an amazing shoulder bag, bonus SD Card, and an extra battery! I will always highly recommend B&H, and ALWAYS the Nikon D610. Amazing quality, memory, speed, ease of working, and video.

LOVE IS NOT A STRONG ENOUGH WORD

By Alissa

Comments about Nikon D610 DSLR Camera (Body Only):

I was previously using the D3200, and people thought I was nuts because I wanted to go straight to the D610. When I first got it I freaked out a little. What on earth did I do? I knew it would be different but woah. So much more control! But it took me literally no time to figure everything out, and people were astounded by the pictures I was producing out of this baby. I thought it was simple enough to figure out and the quality of the images are amazing. I love love love love love it and would buy it a thousand times over.
