I originally purchased the D600 and after much ado, got a refund. The D600 was magical with regard to image quality. Such wonderful potential. But the spots were a real problem.

The D610 is just as magical with regard to quality. It feels great to work with. I like the camera a lot for its potential with regard to creating beautiful landscapes and cityscapes.

I find the focus system a challenge. I am hoping that this is something I can fix with more experience/usage of the camera rather than the camera itself being the problem!

Unfortunately, after about 2k shots, I have found spots on upper left corner on images shot with sky background at f10. It's a bit of deja vu but I am hoping this does not spread like it did with the D600.

Sometimes cleaning this up in post posed real problems with the D600 images. At this price point, it's not acceptable to be forced to work on an image in post due to spots. There will certainly be times I want to shoot at high apertures and so I expect to be able to use the full range of the camera without compromise. It becomes especially important for images I want to submit somewhere.

I've included a picture with spots on upper left. This one is very easy to clean up so not a real issue. However, if spreading occurs with further usage of the camera (like it did with the D600, even after the shutter was replaced) then I am really going to regret having switched from Canon!

I look forward to testing out and working with the video aspect of the D610.

I bought the D610 after reading reviews that said Nikon had fixed the sensor oil/dust spoting problem that existed on the D600. Unfortunatly the problem still exists on some D610's and mine is one of them. After around 2,000 shots I noticed spots from something on my sensor. I called Nikon and they said to send it in for cleaning, which I did (shipping at my expense). Got the camera back, tested it, and with the first few shots had the same problem. Called Nikon and went thru the same routine, got the camera back, and within the first 10 shots another spot appeared. So, now I'm fighting with Nikon to try to get a new camera. Not much fun after spending [$] for the D610.

Great Camera, bad customer service!

By Justin

Comments about Nikon D610 DSLR Camera (Body Only):

I bought the D610 roughly 45 days ago and have taken great pictures with it, its a great camera. I'm a amateur photographer so for my skill set it is perfect with plenty of room to grow. Sometime within this period the auto focus went out, not sure when, usually I use a manual lens. I called B&H and the rep informed me there was nothing they could do since it was past the 30 days, I explained my situation and the only response I got was to take it to Nikon. The customer service rep also informed me that it wouldn't make sense for them to take the camera back since they would have to foot the bill or re-sale it. I always thought when a product was sold the business should stand behind it but after that 30 days they wash their hands of you. Overall the camera is great minus the autofocus, which will be fixed but I would suggest buying straight from Nikon and cut out these middlemen.

MY DREAM CAMERA - FINALLY BOUGHT IT!

By Miss Smiley

Comments about Nikon D610 DSLR Camera (Body Only):

I have always been a Nikon girl and have been saving (and staring at my vision board) for so long. Finally worked up from photoshoots to be able to afford this beauty, and B&H could not have made it easier to purchase! I was thinking of buying used, simply because I was in a time crunch to buy, and didn't have enough for a new camera. The used camera (from somewhere else) was only $150 less than brand new on B&H, and came with nothing but the body. B&H had a great sale going on AND free expedited shipping, including an amazing shoulder bag, bonus SD Card, and an extra battery! I will always highly recommend B&H, and ALWAYS the Nikon D610. Amazing quality, memory, speed, ease of working, and video.

Oil and dust problems still exist. B&H refuse to help me

By T

from Washington D.C

Comments about Nikon D610 DSLR Camera (Body Only):

When I first got this camera I was so excited, the image quality was perfect, and the low light capabilities where amazing. But when I Started to use the camera more outdoors I noticed tons of oil and dust spots on the top left corner. It pretty much looks disgusting from F/7 and above. I contacted B and H but unfortunately they said that since it was out the 30 day return period, I needed to contact Nikon. I was in shock due to the fact that I always heard B and H had an amazing customer service. It really does not make sense to me why they cant replace or fix the camera, the 30 day period was not enough time to make sure it did not have this problem since I had not used the camera at a low F stop yet. If you are reading this please, please, please make sure you buy from Nikon or another camera store. I saved up for a over a year to buy this camera, working extremely hard. Now I am just speechless and frankly very disappointed. I hope someone at B and H is reading this and will have the heart to help me.

LOVE IS NOT A STRONG ENOUGH WORD

By Alissa

Comments about Nikon D610 DSLR Camera (Body Only):

I was previously using the D3200, and people thought I was nuts because I wanted to go straight to the D610. When I first got it I freaked out a little. What on earth did I do? I knew it would be different but woah. So much more control! But it took me literally no time to figure everything out, and people were astounded by the pictures I was producing out of this baby. I thought it was simple enough to figure out and the quality of the images are amazing. I love love love love love it and would buy it a thousand times over.

Comments about Nikon D610 DSLR Camera (Body Only):

I use this as an all-around enthusiast's camera. With the D610, there is finally a full-frame camera body from a major maker that is close enough to affordable to make it worth investing in. I don't need 40+ MP. I rarely need more than 6 or 10, so 25 is *plenty*.

I have a couple of nice compact cameras with 1" sensors. The quality of the photos is just astounding. What I really missed from my 35mm SLR days was proper depth of field control. Being able to blur the background nicely, to encourage the viewer to see what I want him or her to see. Looking at the cost of optics for APS-C and Micro 4/3-sensored cameras, I decided that the only real difference in cost between full frame and something less was in the body itself. So I decided to take the plunge.

The camera + lens is MUCH heavier than my Panasonic FZ1000, and to get a pair of equivalent lenses cost thousands of dollars. If you can't raise the money for good optics, stop right here, because it is a requirement to get the best from a full frame camera. But if you have a bonus or tax refund or something coming, and you're willing to blow it on some good photo gear, look no further.

Or, if you're simply not willing to carry around a heavy camera and a couple of heavy lenses, you should also stop here. This is the cost of having professional looking photos.

But if you ARE willing to deal with these things, the Nikon D610 is a good option. If you like to have your subject toward the sides of the frame, this might not be the ideal choice, since it has no focus sensors there. You'd have to spend a bunch more money to get the D750, or "downgrade" to a bridge camera with a 1" sensor. (and therefore, less dynamic range and low light performance)

Comments about Nikon D610 DSLR Camera (Body Only):

Finally I entered the wonderful world of the FX. Well, after so much hesitation in March of 2016 I took the plunge and I bought the Nikon D610 after another price drop of $200 at B&H with some extra goodies thrown in. My Nikon D200 served me well for 8 years, R.I.P. Compared to the D200 it is amazing to see how much the technology advanced using my new toy, the D610! Shortly I considered to get the Nikon D750, however, the only major advantage of the D750 over the D610 is the better focusing mechanism in low light. I decided to put my hands on the D610 and I couldn't be happier with my choice. The ergonomics are just fine (I have small hands). The body is not heavy and balances well with the Nikon 50mm 1.8 G lens attached to it. The focusing mechanism is fast and accurate. You have buttons you can easily customize, e.g. the AE-L/AF-L button can be assigned to function as AF-ON. You can save e.g. your own landscape settings on U1 and portrait settings on U2 positions on the mode dial. The preset Picture Controls are helpful. The default JPEG images are of high quality. In summary, the Nikon D610 is near at the top of the mid-range DSLR category positioned between the Nikon D7200 and Nikon D750. The Nikon D610 is a lot of camera for the money.

I've only used this for two photo outings but have been very pleased with its overall performance. It is a little heavier than my old camera, but I normally use a tripod, so that will not be a big issue. The focus is fast and I've been pleased with the focus and clarity of my photos. I am strictly a hobby photographer, but I found this camera fairly easy to learn to navigate as it is similar to my old D3200 in many of the settings.
