I just visited the store to compare Nikon 24-70 2.8 and Sigma 24-105 today - plus I also used basic 50mm 1.4 lens at a same spot. Briefly Sharpenss - 50>sigma 24-105>nikon 24-70. Constrast(let me say,, vivid color) sigma 24-105 > 50 > Nikon 24-70. Auto Focus speed and smooth Nikon 24-70 > Sigma 24-105 > Tamron 24-70 > Sigma 24-70 (Only one reason I couldn't get sigma 24-70 was very slow auto focus but this new lens has pretty fastauto focus with NO SOUND. I am doing wedding photography for weekend job and am a professional photographer who has had several exhibitions. Most of case I use a fixed lens such as Samyang / Zeiss with D800 or film cameras from Mamiya 7II to an 8x10 camera for my personal work so I do know how to check and find a right lens for me.Here is my suggestion and some tips for you who has considered and can't make a decision what to buy. If you are dying for 2.8F, then go for 24-70 with any company for your budget. If you don't really need 2.8F, GO FOR this new Sigma 24-105. Sharpness. Fast and silent auto focus. Only $. There is nothing you need to hesitate to get this, unless you really need 2.8. For wedding? I guess only situation you really need 2.8 is when you shoot in a church because constant flash isn't allowed in most the case. Can you cover it with other lens or slwo shutter speed with 1600iso? Then go ahead. Dude, this lens can even cover upto 105mm. Say good bye to the freaking heavy 70(80)-200. P.S This lens is really fat.. It seems very slim and neat from the "profile picture" but don't believe it. It is one of the most chubby lens. (but 1oz lighter than Nikon 24-70)

First copy of the lens I got had a severe front focus I could not even correct with Sigma USB dock. They allow -20/+20 focus correction, but the lens needed at least 25! So I exchanged the lens for another copy. The second copy also had front focus, but not as bad as the first one. The biggest correction I needed was 18. I own several Nikon and Tamron lenses I use with my D600, and I've never seen such issues with AF. Did I get two "lemons" in the row? Without the correction the lens was clearly inferior to Nikon 24-85 VR. By using the USB dock I was able to adjust the AF so that the Sigma slightly beats the Nikon kit lens at shorter focal lengths, and is noticeably better at longer zoom. But it took me many-many hours to do so. I'm going to try to add a screenshot of the correction I had to do.My other complaint about the lens is its weight. It seem that a decent part of the lens is made out of metal, however, I doubt it makes the lens any stronger, and I would not feel comfortable dropping this lens. And the fact that it has no weather sealing of any kind makes me wonder why couldn't Sigma go with more plastic. The extra weight does not make this lens a high-end lens anyway.Considering the weight, absence of weather sealing, price, bad quality control, and the long painful process of correcting AF I feel that this lens is at best 2.5 stars. Unfortunately for people who want a general-purpose walk-around lens that could go past 70mm there are not that many choices. Nikon 24-85 and Nikon 24-120 (overpriced considering not so ideal performance) are the only alternatives. And only because of this lack of better alternatives I will give the lens 3 stars instead of 2.I will probably keep the lens just because I've put too much effort into adjusting it. I, however, would not recommend anyone to buy it unless you know how to test and adjust it, and unless you are prepared to keep exchange the lens until you find a reasonable copy. If you just want to buy something and be done with it then save some money and stick with Nikon 24-85.

Comments about Sigma 24-105mm f/4 DG OS HSM Art Lens for Nikon F:

Typical Sigma Art Lens quality, solid construction, zoom & focus rings are smooth turning and well dampened, color and contrast rendition is excellent. Not a light lens but balances nicely on my Nikon D810 body. Focus was accurate right out of the box.

Comments about Sigma 24-105mm f/4 DG OS HSM Art Lens for Nikon F:

I purchased the Sigma 24-105 and compared it with the Nikon 16-80 I was looking for sharp lens that I could use for everyday shooting since I sold all my canon gear and switched to Nikon recently, I got 200-500 for birding and I want to see if I could live with two lens. I knew Sigma had some good ART lens and I want auto focus zoom with Image stabilization, so I looked at both, I then took the variuos images, same Settings etc etc, I found better built quality with the Sigma, better warranty four years! quieter motor when videoing, sharper throughout the whole image, with less barrel distortion at lower apertures good power range, for less money... how can you go wrong... and if ever for no yourself in a bad situation and needed a weapon the Sigma is the one to go with

High Quality, good value

Comments about Sigma 24-105mm f/4 DG OS HSM Art Lens for Nikon F:

I have the "old", non VR Nikon 24-70mm f2.8, and use it extensively. I thought that a little extra focal length might be useful, and traded in some old lenses (B & H did a fine job on the trade ins). I first tried a refurbished Nikon 24-120mm f4. It was a mess - soft all over, at all focal lengths & fstops, etc. I replaced it with the Sigma 24-105mm f4 Art. And NO - it doesn't front focus, etc. I checked with a test pattern as soon as a got it. I may be lucky, but the focus is dead on and fast. It is not as sharp as my Sigma 35mm f1.4, but it is fine - maybe a little soft wide open - but I already have the fast lens that IS very sharp. I got this one to use when I don't need a really wide aperture, and can use the 105mm. It functions beautifully at f11. I'm really satisfied with the lens, and would recommend it - just remember it is not weather sealed (but the build quality is great).

Accurate focusing. Excellent clarity for a zoom. Bought this as an all-in-one lens, I usually shoot with primes and am happy with the results. I like the fact that you can shoot F4 throughout the zoom range. Nice lens for the price.

24-105 Sigma Art Lens

Comments about Sigma 24-105mm f/4 DG OS HSM Art Lens for Nikon F:

I wanted a walk around lens in a good focal length range and the Sigma 24-105 fits that need. I haven't had the chance to use this lens a lot but so far, I like what I see. What keeps me from giving it 5 stars is the issue of my preview screen staying on for 1 minute after I take a photo with this lens. A call to Sigma support said this is programed into this lens and cannot be changed by the camera menu. Something about this lens and image stabilization. A little inconvenient, but still a great sharp lens.

Comments about Sigma 24-105mm f/4 DG OS HSM Art Lens for Nikon F:

First of all, the equipment is better than the photographer. I am still enjoying the learning process for what will aways be a hobby for me. I use this primarily for outdoor photography on a Nikon d750. I have been very pleased with the images. The lens is easy to work with outside and I have no problem carrying it around through all kinds of terrain. My only complaint is I see the edges of the lense hood when I shoot at 24mm. I don't like having to take the hood off for wider angle shots. Otherwise, this is an amazing product. I attached a photo of me hiking ancient dunes from Lake Aggasiz because I took the shot using wifi from my phone. Obviously, very good range! The lense seems to be very sturdy and focuses quickly.

Comments about Sigma 24-105mm f/4 DG OS HSM Art Lens for Nikon F:

This lens was actually surprisingly good. I recently moved from Canon to Nikon, and wanted to have a lens to replace my 24-105L. I picked this up, and honestly this lens on my D800 absolutely kills it.

It's incredibly sharp for a zoom, like really really sharp. There's a good deal of vignetting but it's very easy to correct, that's really the only gripe.

Plus this thing just feels SO solid. Like really, the build quality is great. No weather sealing but I'm a studio shooter so no biggie.

I purchased this lens shortly before our Ireland trip. The zoom range is well suited for the majority of common travel shooting. It is quite sharp on center and maintains well to the edges. Good color snap. It's heavy but not burdensome. Handles well on my D800. Feels solid.

Comments about Sigma 24-105mm f/4 DG OS HSM Art Lens for Nikon F:

I apologize for the mixup with my first review of this lens titled "Outstanding Lens", 2/24/2016. That review was not for this lens, but for the Tamron 90mm VC Macro. I meant to review this lens and give it four stars for the following reasons: Yes, it was sharp and it functioned perfectly with a Nikon D810, but I felt that the detail in the final image on closeup use was not up to the standard of a Sigma Art Lens. There was more chromatic aberration than I would have liked and the edge sharpness was just not great, so I returned the lens in exchange for a Tamron 24-70 or a Nikon 24-70 (non-VR) to compare results. Somewhat disappointing, but it's still a 4-star rating and for a 24MP sensor, I suspect it would perform quite well. Anyway, please disregard my first review, since it was placed in error for this lens.

Comments about Sigma 24-105mm f/4 DG OS HSM Art Lens for Nikon F:

I was not surprised by the high quality of this lens, since it was rated highly by DxO labs in their testing on a Nikon D810. I compared the lens to the Nikon 200mm f/4 Macro and in a side by side on the same subject at f/16, it was as sharp and actually had better detail after a 100% enlargement in Photoshop. The lack of chromatic aberration was also noticeable, so I rank it with the Nikon as at least of equal quality. I could not compare it to a Nikon 105mm Macro, since I don't have that lens, but I am certain that this Tamron will hold its own in a side by side against that lens.
All in all, a very useable lens for close up and macro and portrait. Hand holding the lens with VC engaged, f/18 @ 1/30s showed no motion blur in the photo, so I assume the VC works just fine for my purposes. I normally use a tripod, so this feature is not of particular concern to me. Nice to know it works, however.

Comments about Sigma 24-105mm f/4 DG OS HSM Art Lens for Nikon F:

Great all-rounder! I do a lot of remote work in hot places and have been trying to lighten the load for the past year or two. I started out taking 2x bodies and four lenses (24-70, 35mm, 50mm, 70-200, all Nikon f2.8 or Sigma Art). Last trip I took 2x bodies and just this one lens and had the best trip in years in terms of getting good shots and not being overloaded and over 'complicated'. On the D750 in AFA mode it focusses with less fuss than any other combination I've worked with over 20+ years. For me it beats the Nikon 24-70 f2.8 in every respect. I did recently use it on a job and also did a few shots on the 50mm (Sigma Art) and the 50mm shots were better but not enough for me to be disappointed (in the 24-105). I'm a convert to Sigma Art (like so many) and doubt I'll ever buy a Nikon lens again. A recent repair to my Nikon 24-70 after a bump cost AUD$[$]because Nikon would not supply the small ($300) part that the repairer told me would fix the lens, I had to buy a whole new internal lens assembly. Thank goodness for Sigma. Wish they would make a good DSLR.

It works perfectly with my Nikon D810. I sharp and optical stabilization is right on the money. I like the extended range to 105mm verses the 70 mm range of Nikon's 24-70mm f/2.8. The Nikon lens is great for tripod use on the D810 but I do alot of handle held shooting as well as tripod shooting. I think it is a great walking around lens. I have not tried using a tripod yet. So no comment there. I brought because of the review on Photo Zone which rated the Canon mount as good.

I been using this lens for 3 weeks of doing portrait's and landscape's on my D750 with battery grip, it's handling was not cumbersome. Being able to use the constant f/4aperture at all focal length's adds more creativity prospective that I did not have before. I found the focus speed fast on indoor & outdoor lighting conditions with no seeking so far and the OS works without interfering your shooting. This sigma lens has a solid feel & the designed performance point gives smooth manual focus & no lens creep! I had considered nikon 24-120 lens, but given the FX / DX on the camera side plus the crop factor one can get to around 120 in view angle if need be.

Comments about Sigma 24-105mm f/4 DG OS HSM Art Lens for Nikon F:

I needed a "cheap" wide angle zoom since I shoot a lot of volume as a freelancer so I could reserve my Nikon 24-70 for weddings only. As it turns out, my freelance client told me that my image quality has improved!

This lens spanks Nikon's 24-70 at every turn - except that it's only f/4. But honestly, if you're shooting wide angle, do you really want a shallow DOF?

In addition, it focuses FAST and accurate in dark wedding venues. I have very few instances of soft or back focus issues. Certainly less issues than the 24-70.

Portraits shot at 105mm at f/4 look fantastic, but the bokeh isn't as creamy as it would be with 2.8, but with the 24-70 set to 70mm, 2.8, it wasn't that creamy either.

You want creamy bokeh? Get an 85+mm prime with 1.4. If you want a great all-around workhorse, get this lens.

People complain about the weight. It's heavy, yes, but it's a professional lens built with professional quality. Weight isn't a valid complaint.

Comments about Sigma 24-105mm f/4 DG OS HSM Art Lens for Nikon F:

This lens has a great focal range. It's really sharp, has nice contrast and color. But after using fast glass, I wasn't thrilled with the bokeh. Guess I got spoiled. Another thing I noticed was that it missed focus at times, but that may have been my copy. I haven't heard of this being a problem.
