Fantastic lens!! Especially considering the price. Constructions feels solid, focus ring is precise and butter smooth. It can be little soft at 2.8 but once closed down a few stops it is about as sharp as any other wide angle I've ever used. What ever distortion and vignetting there is can be easily corrected by downloading a LR lens profile.

I bought this lens for my Sony A7ii, and honestly it worked how I expected. I bought it because I wanted a super wide since the Zeiss Batis 25mm is not out yet. But after using this, I will be waiting and this will go back. It gives reasonable results. The center is SHARP. But the sides and corners, even closer to the middle are just blurry, and I'm not talking just a little blurry, sometimes its so blurry that you cannot determine what is in the image. Also there is a problem with the focus at infinity but I hear that problem does not exist on the canon and nikon mount version. I would consider it unacceptable. The other problem I had with this was that it was just way too heavy. I came from using lenses like this on my old Canon 7D, but after getting the A7II, I've grown accustom to the lighter weight lenses and much prefer that.

One other thing that bothered me about this lens what that the mount didn't have that little white dot to reference where to put it on to the camera body. Not that it was the end of the world, but when you are trying to change lenses on the go, it really does get in the way. I found myself on numerous occasions having to stop and fiddle with the lens just to get it on the camera properly. It is not even marked, at all.

The lens hood is build on, but however it does feel cheap. I think if you hit it the right way, it would break. I could move it with my fingers and that did not rub me the right way. The general build quality of the lens if great though. Just not the lens hood, or the mount markings. BUT the focus ring is buttery SMOOTH, that was my all time favorite thing about the lens

However, I do believe this lens is great for an entry photographer that just wants something to learn with. Especially being an all manual lens, it does it's job. But I might tell someone how uses Canon or Nikon to try this lens out. I have heard of many people with the Sony Mirrorless A7's like myself having issues with this Rokinon and the Samyang versions, but I may have also gotten a bad copy.

Comments about Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 ED AS IF UMC Lens for Sony E-Mount:

I bought this lens with my Sony A7II for trip to Alaska.
Very impressive at night shooting stars and aurora.
F2.8 is much better than my FE1635 F4.
FE1635 F4 + this lens is much cheaper than FE1635 F2.8
The only cons is the built-in adapter ring which increase the size.

Does not work well with Sony Full Frame Cameras

Comments about Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 ED AS IF UMC Lens for Sony E-Mount:

Used this lens with my A7R. It is very difficult to use manual focus with a lens that is so wide. Sony has a setting that assists with manual focus, but it does not work with this lens. My camera does not even register that this lens is working. It gives me errors and says the lens is not attached properly. It does not have the right connection points to work properly with the full frame Sony's. I am returning it. Better off using a canon or nikon wide angle with an adapter.

Exactly what I expected

Comments about Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 ED AS IF UMC Lens for Sony E-Mount:

Get this lens.

I got this for my Sony E-Mount system for about $260. There are plenty of reviews that go into detail about it being a lot of glass, having too much focus throw, the build quality, the lens hood, etc... While all of these are true things and you should read more about them, it's an excellent value for a 14mm lens.

I spent a short amount of time testing this out inside and outside with various types of exposures and settings. Shooting so wide is actually a new thing for me so it was fun to experiment and learn.

I felt that the size of this lens right for a 14mm. The lens hood did feel on the cheap side but it doesn't bother me at all. The focus throw wasn't a huge deal because I didn't move it off of infinity. I was able to use the aperture ring with my setup and I really like that a lot. My one complaint was it was lacking a little bit of sharpness. I'm also used to shooting with the Sony Sonnar T* FE 55mm f/1.8 ZA Lens, which is super sharp.

My conclusion is this lens won't stay on my camera all the time. I'll take it out for landscape shots, interiors, stars and night long exposures. The other times, my 55mm will stay on. For that reason, this lens does exactly what I want it to do. It gets super wide and takes some quality images.

Has amazing potential, but QC is holiding them back

Comments about Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 ED AS IF UMC Lens for Sony E-Mount:

The parts of the image that where in focus looked really good, unfortunately the copy i received was defective and both the far left and right side of the pictures were out of focus when the rest was tack sharp. Cropping out the out of focus parts of the pic resulted in cropping out about 1/4 of the photo. And I don't have the patience to play musical lenses and keep swapping out lenses hoping I finally get a good copy. If these guys didn't have such a bad QC issue this lens would be and incredible buy for the money, Or if your okay with rolling the dice on getting a good 1 and have the time to waste sending it back if it isn't While i know 14mm is on the ultra-wide side and I find it almost to wide for my general landscape shots, though it does excel at nightscapes and astrophotography, especially when trying to get as much of a ginormous object like the milky way in as few shots as possible without pano stitching.

Comments about Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 ED AS IF UMC Lens for Sony E-Mount:

If I didn't have to go through the hassle of returning the lens do to poor QC then it would be 5 stars for the price of the lens and quality of pics. The parts of the image that were in focus looked wonderful and resolved a good amount of detail on my a7r. Unfortunately these lenses are notorious to have QC issues, the lens I got was no exception. While the center of the pictures would be nice and sharp, both the far left and right sides were very out of focus resulting in about a loss of 1/5th of the picture once the out of focus elements are cropped.

Comments about Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 ED AS IF UMC Lens for Sony E-Mount:

It seems like only the center of the image is usable because the sides are just distorted blurs, and that seems to happen at all f strops. For photo you can crop a little, but with video you'd be loosing a lot of quality doing that.

Comments about Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 ED AS IF UMC Lens for Sony E-Mount:

I mostly use the lens for landscape, astral photography, and also ultra wide for video. Its a sharp lens, and of course with any ultra wide there is some distortion around the edges, but can be corrected in post if desired. I mistakenly bought the UMC lens with the clicked aperture ring instead of the cine lens de-clicked version but Im please with it either way. The lens seems to have a built on adapter compared to the same lens for other camera types (i.e. Canon, Nikon, etc) as the sony E mount version is longer than usual but this doesn't affect shots. There is some vignetting around the edges when shooting full frame and getting the full 14mm. Otherwise good lens for the money. Sharp, fast, good class. I would recommend for photography and cine version for video.

Comments about Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 ED AS IF UMC Lens for Sony E-Mount:

Landscapes are the main reason I bought this lens. I've used it only for a week or so and really like it. It does have softness near the edges and distortion. Most of the distortion can be corrected or cropped. If you know your lens you can use it creatively rather than seeing it as a negative factor. I like the sharpness in the center of the field. It's very good. I like the colors that are produced. I have not had much trouble with lens flare (since no filters are mountable, that reduces some lens flare right there). Overall, I believe this is a great lens to add to my collection. I have other Rokinons, all of which are excellent value and quality. Fully manual. I did not spring for the auto focus one. I use this on a SONY a7 EF mount. Works fine on that.

MAJOR terrific lens! Acuity in the center 2/3rds of the field is SO crisp, even at more open apertures, the lense beyond demonstrates today's best efforts of design and application of optical materials.

Bargain.

Thank you to the scientifically-oriented B&H folks for continuing to promulgate some of the best of what humans pursue.

Great Wide Angle Lens for Sony EF-Mount

Comments about Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 ED AS IF UMC Lens for Sony E-Mount:

Great wide angle lens for the Sony A7RII, EF-Mount. The manual focus ring has an overwhelming throw, but does not effect the quality. Like any wide angle, there is a some barrel distortion around the edges that can easily be fixed in post. The fixed lens hood is a nice feature that makes lens filters a problem. If you're on a budget but want a good quality lens, then I would definitely purchase this lens.

Excellent Value

Comments about Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 ED AS IF UMC Lens for Sony E-Mount:

I bought this lens for use with the Sony A7s, mainly for fixed mount astro photos, but I am also interested in trying it for landscape and architectural photographs, especially at night.

It is very much a Manual lens, but it works well on the A7s with its manual focus assists and its Live View function. Within those limits, it works well with the "A" setting as well as the "M" setting.

The lens feels well-built and preliminary test shots indicate the optics are very good.

Comments about Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 ED AS IF UMC Lens for Sony E-Mount:

this lens is really sharp, even at 2.8 but it does have a large amount of distortion that is difficult to fix in photoshop or lightroom. I moved on to the Zeiss Batis 18mm but if they fix that terrible distortion with the Rokinon 14mm 2.8 AF, I might switch back.

Comments about Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 ED AS IF UMC Lens for Sony E-Mount:

It's a great, sharp (at the center) affordable lens. I only wished it was lighter. I use it on the a6000 and it get super front-heavy making it very fiddly on the tripod. I might have a cheapish tripod, I admit, but it still feels less stable because of it.

Comments about Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 ED AS IF UMC Lens for Sony E-Mount:

This lens is absolutely marvelous for the landscape shot or any super-wide angle shot such as interior shooting etc. Before I have this lens I had to do alot of panaromic shots and stitching, but with this lens, I am spared the hassle and the time to shoot those wide angle shots that is now so much simpler. Picture quality is very sharp at most f stops and built quality is great at this price tag, What more could I ask for?

Wrong Product Photo

By Bob

from Oregon

Comments about Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 ED AS IF UMC Lens for Sony E-Mount:

I just received this lens and have not tried it yet. However, the photo BH uses to promote this lens is incorrect. The actual Sony version is about an inch longer at the base so the photo is deceptive. I'm sure this is an unintentional oversight but buyer beware. With that said, I think the lens looks and feels fine. I actually ordered the Samyang version by mistake (the product photo is correct) and changed my order based on the Rokinon photo and BH was very helpful with that change so I'm very happy with the customer service and hope they will recognize their advertising mistake.

Comments about Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 ED AS IF UMC Lens for Sony E-Mount:

Was looking for a well priced wide-angle lens for my A7r and I am pleased to say the 14mm Rokinon was the perfect choice. It's even sharper than I expected and build quality is nice and durable- and let's face it you can't beat the price tag. I might even go as far to purchase the 24mm in the future
