I am mainly a landscape and portrait photographer. I had been in the Micro 4/3rd camp for the last several years having gone through more pro DSLR's over the years than I care to count and now OUT of Micro 4/3rds. This camera is one of those rare ones that comes along, that is so conceived for and by a photographer with the intent to be able to easily use all of the powerful capabilities it has, as well as discover your create side as well. It is so solidly construction, fits in one's had as if they took a mold of your hand. The controls and adjustments are moments away and rarely have to to be explored in their still comprehensive menu. The colors produced are all Fuji, extraordinary. One of the most enticing things about this camera is the utterly noise free files it can produce. For best results from RAW I most highly recommend you download and purchase the latest version of PhotoNinja by Picturecode. it is by far the best Demosaicing and control rich program for THIS camera if you want the best results. Noise free and sharp detailed images will result. The micro contrast of the sensor and detail is surgical in it's nature. Yes the high speed focus tracking WORKS and well indeed. Far better than anything short of a pro DSLR. Shutter response is superb and immediate so as to allow you to simply mash the shutter on a moving subject and end up with a in focus shot. The EVF is class leading and presents a FF DSLR sized image with all details present. You simply have to work with one of these cameras to appreciate what Fuji has accomplished. I would not hesitate to shoot any wedding or event with this camera, fast moving children, animals etc. bring it on. This is THE camera to own right now.

lack of focus, focus, focus speed. Gave this camera 2 chances to shoot during the day with extreme sun and it searched for focusing when using the spot focus. I can manually focus faster and I love what colors I get from the images but when I need to get the shot fast, this is not the camera for it.

Extraordinary

Comments about Fujifilm X-T1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

I am seasoned DSLR shooter. This is my first venture into the mirror-less arena and I am very pleased with the purchase. The kit lens does not behave like a kit lens. The IQ is very good. For those of you that enjoy pixel peeking, well...you will not be disappointed. The ability to change settings without scrolling through menus or depressing a button and turning a thumbwheel is just special. If you are an enthusiast and want to experience of a film-style camera with modern conveniences this is the one for you.

Great camera in a small footprint!

Comments about Fujifilm X-T1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

I mainly got the camera as a light weight and less imposing system for travel, street, or daily life events. Great image quality, excellent build quality and perfect form factor. Highly recommend for those looking for great images and functionality in a smaller package. Only a couple minor dislikes: needing to push down to start changing the focus point is annoying, low light performance isn't as good as I hoped and the WiFi app connection is hit or miss. Overall it is just a crazy fun camera to shoot with and any camera that gets you excited to take photos is perfect in my book!

Perfect Travel Companion

Comments about Fujifilm X-T1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

I love this camera! I was tired of lugging around big and heavy gear every time I traveled, as much as I love my Nikon it was just to big and heavy. After my last trip I said "no more!" and started researching mirrorless. After a lot of reading and comparing I decided that Fuji was the one for me. It was love at first sight right out of the box. It is everything I was hoping for and more. Easy to use, very well laid out and so pretty to look at. But best of all, it is light weight! Now, it never leaves my side! And the images are beautiful.

Comments about Fujifilm X-T1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

Love the size, weight and feel of the XT-1. Has the weight and feel of a metal camera versus plastic cameras these days. Quality workmanship and made in Japan. Easy to do bracketing and make manual settings with controls on top. The menu selection buttons are recessed too much and could have been designed better. However this camera does everything I need it to and a great buy at $500 discounted price. Photos are sharp and great Fuji colors. Video function is not the best but I didn't purchase this camera for video. You might want to buy a different camera if you want to shoot a lot of video. For me this was the right choice and I couldn't justify spending extra money for the XT-2.

Quality Photos from a Small Package

Comments about Fujifilm X-T1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

I bought this camera to take with me instead of my Canon 5D Mark III when I'm on day trips where my main goal is something other than taking photos: things like going into NYC to see a show and have dinner. There are times the camera on my cell phone just isn't enough to overcome some of the conditions I find myself in, and I hate to miss a good photo op due to low light, etc., but the Mark III is a lot of camera to lug around "just in case."

I've used this camera for a couple weeks now and am really pleased with the quality of photos I can get with it, even in low light. The shots are crisp and clean, with a remarkably low level of noise. The quality is good enough that I'm opting to take this camera as my only one on vacation in a few weeks. (However, if I was going somewhere specifically for the landscape, I'd still take my Mark III.)

I also really like the size of this camera. I'm able to carry it in a purse style camera bag without the fatigue and sore shoulder I get when carrying the Mark III all day.

Being a Canon shooter, it's taking a while to get used to the menus on this camera. It's not that this camera is hard to use, just that it's organized differently than I'm used to.

Really, the only negative I've found so far is the manual. It's not as comprehensive as I'd like, so Google has become my best friend. I wish I didn't have to turn to the internet to learn some (what seem to me to be) pretty basic things about the camera.

Other than that, I'm extremely pleased with the X-T1.

I have had many cameras over many years, but the X-T1 is by far one of the best. The camera is very easy to handle and operate. The colors are spectacular. The Film Simulations are a great feature. All my photos are extremely sharp.

Comments about Fujifilm X-T1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

The kit lens has huge amount of barrel distortion not corrected by the camera for some reason. The software Fuji supplies also a pain to use and only can do manual correction.
The camera has serious issues with color accuracy, pink cast, again almost impossible to correct with the supplied software.

Great for those looking for a DSLR alternative

By TJD

Comments about Fujifilm X-T1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

I wanted an alternative to a large, heavy DSLR. The Fuji XT-1 is perfect for me. Small and light, easy to travel with. Great for everything from backpacking trips to street photography. I like the retro controls because the are similar to my old, long gone film cameras. I like the organization of the Fuji menus as opposed to Cannon. After shooting about 800 shots I find Image quality is very good. JPGs from the camera are outstanding. I would like to see a 100 ISO option for RAW. I wish the lens barrel had f-stop markings. Will stick with this body for a while and then consider upgrading to the new XT-2 when it is available. If you are not in a hurry, you may want to wait for XT-2. If cost is a big issue for you, you can likely get the XT-1 at a discount. Either way you will have a versatile and capable camera.

Nice Controls

Comments about Fujifilm X-T1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

The best thing about this camera is the analog controls. Very little of the controls are electronic and it makes for easy and quick adjustments. Image quality, color, and sensitivity are great. I was looking for a travel camera and this was a great choice. My big cameras are D4 and D800 and I am happy with this as my travel camera. Light weight and high quality.

Comments about Fujifilm X-T1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

Bought a Fuji XT-1 when they first came out. Loved it Sold it and went back to pro DSLR. Reason at the time was lack of lenses. Just purchased another after all this time due to need of weight reduction. This camera and it's superb lenses is amazing. I cannot believe the build quality and image quality of this camera. The fact that I bought the same model camera when I know there must be a new one coming out soon should tell you what I think of this gem.

Comments about Fujifilm X-T1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

Long-time Minolta SLR/Sony DSLR guy, decided to try mirrorless and Fuji had the best specs for the price. Initially I bought the 16-55mm constant f/2.8. Much heavier than expected; lacked stabilization. Exchanged it for the 18-55mm kit lens. Quickly learned what others had found out - no perceivable difference in quality (above f/4). Half the cost, half the weight - and water resistant!

Friends commented images "beat real life". ISO 6400 is totally usable. By 25,600 faces become too blotchy although the image retains remarkable colour detail.

The large viewfinder is incredible. Much brighter than a film SLR; no perceptible lag in daylight. In low light there's noise and a reduced frame refresh to keep it usable where an SLR would be too dim.

Shutter speed, aperture, and ISO can all be changed simply by twiddling dials. Oddly, although both the 23mm prime and the constant f/2.8 zoom have aperture notches on the lens, the 18-55mm kit lens does not. You still rotate the dial on the lens, but must check the setting in the viewfinder.

Autofocus performance is mixed. Excellent in normal light: face/eye detection too. In good conditions it's terrifically fast at locking on. For shots of dimly-lit people it often picks up the background due to the phase detection. All three manual focus options work superbly.

Not a camera for sports. I did try photographing birds in flight, with predictable results (no way it can keep up). Had some success with my kid kicking around a soccer ball - it can squeeze 8 frames per second, sometimes even refocusing between frames.

Electronic shutter is barely audible: allows for extremely high shutter speeds. Given its limitations for subjects with even slight motion, it's best left off unless the normal shutter noise would distract.

Overall, I am pleasantly surprised at how much I like this camera. As a bonus, I use my Minolta prime lenses with a Metabones adapter (in MF mode) and they are tack sharp.

Well done Fuji.

Comments about Fujifilm X-T1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

I've used Nikon cameras for 47 years with my latest being a D300. I'm trying the X-T1 in hopes of finding a lighter camera for my old bones to carry around. This camera is wonderful! It is easy to use, settings make sense and are easy to learn, and many of the features that are new to me are fabulous. I love the the ability to bracket not only exposure but also things like white balance and film simulation. The file simulation is a great feature that allows not only various color modes but also B&W modes with various "filters". Also all three pictures are simultaneous, manufactured off of one click. I'm still learning about other features, but so far I love the camera.

The down sides, which takes it from 5 to 4 stars are primarily related to lens availability for advanced amateurs. I'm used to having a 70-300 zoom of decent quality for an affordable price. The best they offer in that category is a 50-230, which seems to be less of a lens than the Nikon 70-300 and is a little short for a guy who likes to shoot at 300, and the 100-400 is out of my price range. There are only a couple of third party lenses for this camera and they are as expensive as the Fuji lenses. My other fault is that the fantastic bracketing that I spoke to before, does not work in the Raw shooting mode.

Comments about Fujifilm X-T1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

I found myself taking less and less photos because of the sheer bulk of my Canon DSLR, and within a week of trading in for the X-T1, I find that, paired with a pancake 27mm lens, this is rarely out of my bag, or my hands.

There's no compromise on quality, AF is super-fast, and at less than half the size and what feels like a third of the weight of my old 7D, this camera is the perfect solution. The kit lens (18-55 f2.8-4) is as sharp as my Canon 24-70, but a fraction of the weight again.

I do miss the responsiveness of the traditional MF lenses, but the AF is so manipulable that makes up for it. The X-T1 also allows you have an enormous amount of control over your image, and the flip-up screen is excellent for from-the-hip shooting. Would probably consider the 35mm f1.4 or the 56mm f1.2 as a final lens ugprade.
