One must understand the purpose of this lens. It is designed to transform a PEN or OM-D camera into a point and shoot. Combined with the additional auto lens cap, the lens powers from the closed compact state to the extended ready state with the auto lens cap opening for quick shooting when the camera is powered on. In other words, you now have a point and shoot with with supurb image quality. The zoom is powered as well just like a point and shoot zoom and is operated by the regular zoom ring.

So, is this the sharpest lens in the Olympus stable? No. Is this the most compact 3x zoom in the Olympus stable? Yes! So you now have a pocketable camera with a zoom, quite good performance, and that is ready in an instant. Not the best lens for a wedding or any other time your planing to take photos, but outstanding for carrying around when you weren't expecting to take photos. And it is not any worse than other kit lenses.

If your pixel peeping, you will not find this lens outstanding. If your looking for a lens to put in your pocketbook or pocket that is ready in an instant, then this is the brilliant design that was made just for you!

I bought this lens for EM10. It is small and looks good. But after shot one week, I found the optical performance does not satisfy me. Also, while you zoom it, not like regular zoom lens, you always feel it is pulled back by spring, very difficult to hit the position you want.

Sounded better on paper

Comments about M.Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 EZ Lens (Black):

Bought this to use on a DJI Inspire One RAW. On paper this sounded amazing but in real life and I don't know if I can blame the lense for this. The picture is very shaky zoomed in, and anything but a sunny day picture quality is very soft, around sunset it almost looks blurry. My biggest issue with the lens is the slow focus, again may be in part cause my the DJI X5R camera. Because of that I will give it a star rating in the middle, since I am not unhappy with the lens but I am not happy with it either.

Welcome Upgrade From Previous 14-42 for EM10

By Hoag

Comments about M.Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 EZ Lens (Black):

I sold my Olympus EM 10 and upgraded to the EM 10 Mark II and wanted a lens that was smaller and more efficient than the kit lens that came with the EM 10 that required constantly "unlocking" before it would be used. This new version of the 14-42 EZ lens is great in the way it narrows the profile of the EM 10 in a way that makes it much more easily pocketable. At the same time, the auto-open feature is a welcome change atnd quality of the produced image is superior to that of the earlier kit lens. I've been using this regularly for interior and exterior photos for the last several weeks and am very satisfied with it.

Happy with this so far

I started using Olympus 4/3 cameras to save weight and bulk during trips to the rain forest. Happily, this lens brings size and weight down even more. So far, seems to be giving good sharpness and color.

Small but mighty

Comments about M.Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 EZ Lens (Black):

I have switched to MFT photography due to the size and weight constraints during traveling and going hiking. The smallish compact system lens (M.Zuiko ED 14-42mm) is deal for the Olympus PEN F camera and fitting neatly in tight bags and trekking gear. It works without flaw, fast focus, and barely noticeable on the camera. The image Quality and build quality are second to none and match my Zeiss gear (at a lower cost). It's not bad as a system lens.

Good lens for most family / sightseeing photo-ops

Comments about M.Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 EZ Lens (Silver):

Good lens for everyday family shots.Lens shipped and arrived promptly.
Lens provides smooth zoom in/out features and minimal aberrations in the extreme settings. I am particularly happy with the camera (EPL-7) and lens low lighting conditions vs. regular point and shoot cameras. Compares well to my beloved and outdated 28mm-70mm lens on a 35 mm film SLR.

Comments about M.Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 EZ Lens (Black):

This lens and my EM5 II failed to communicate. Image in viewfinder jumped around, then fired off a random, out of focus blur. Similar lens, rented, on an EM10 II worked but was such a tight fit it put the camera or lens at risk changing it. That's two duds out of two.

A good lens when traveling.

Comments about M.Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 EZ Lens (Black):

I purchased the M. Zuiko ED 14-42mm lens because I like using my Olympus OM-10 when traveling but want to make the camera/lens combination as small as possible because I often travel with carry-on luggage only. I found this lens to be ideal for this specific purpose. With the OM-10, I can use my favorite camera; with the Zuiko ED 14-42mm lens, I have combination of lens/camera that is relatively small. With one trip now under my belt, it has turned out to be a good choice.

My every day lens

By Fastidious

Comments about M.Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 EZ Lens (Black):

This is my every day, always ready lens. It automatically compacts and opens. With reset set to off in the camera, it reopens at the focal length you last used. Reset on has it open at 14 mm. Add the automatic lens cap and the lens is protected when off and you do not need to remember to remove it for that spontaneous photo. It's profile is shorter than the 17 mm f/1.8 which was my everyday lens until this one.

Solid build - just better - less plastic

Comments about M.Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 EZ Lens (Black):

I purchased this lens to go on a Lumix GX 85 that I got shortly after the lens arrived. I have an earlier version of this on my sturdy Lumix GX 1. I own a number of Olympus lenses and I find them just better than other available lenses on the market. I very much appreciate the build quality that has more metal and plastic. The optics are excellent as you would expect from this line of Olympus lenses. While in wide mode it is a 28 mm equivalent versus the Panasonic 24 mm equivalent I just don't feel like I'm missing much. If I really want to go wider I just shoot 2 pictures and stitch them together. The Zuiko line from Olympus are the very best micro 4/3 lenses available in my opinion.

Is slow (f stop) but all in all is very capable

This is such a handy lens to have...so fast and quick to take pics. So happy to avoid some of those missed shots. Turn the camera on and you're ready for the shot. Of course, you will need to zoom in and out if desired.
