You get more than what you pay for. The Sony Alpha a6000 is simply an awesome camera. When you compare it to other cameras both DSLR and Mirrorless in its class, this camera outshines them all. Stills are sharp and the colors are good. Video is detailed and the noise, like on most all Sony sensors, looks more like grain than digital noise (ala Canon).

Video on the a6000 is detailed enough to cut in with the a7s, a7RII, NXCAM, XDCAM, etc. Comparing this camera to other cameras in its class, low light performance is amazing. Note that I said in its class! Of course it doesn't compare to full frame cameras or the a7s or a7RII, but compared to other APSC cameras, especially against Canon APSC such as the 70D, the a6000 is far superior. For best results in low light, the maximum usable ISO is 3200. The maximum clean ISO is 2000. However you can get clean results at 3200 and higher if you know what you're doing and expose for zones.

Let me address some of the Cons listed above:

Short battery life (56)
- I use only Sony brand batteries and I get a full day of video and 2-3 days of photos when shooting "casually". I tested the Watson NP-FW50 Lithium-Ion Battery Pack (7.4V, 1000mAh) and although just 20 mAh less than the Sony, it only lasted a third of the time. So buy quality batteries and you'll get longer life.

Complicated controls (11)
- Not sure why people say this. The controls are well laid out and the menus are set up pretty much like any other camera. But there are MORE controls because there are tons more features so maybe that's the case.

Poor in low light (7)
- Not at all. If you are a good photographer or skilled videographer, you know the limitations of camera sensors in this class and shoot accordingly. The a6000 does not perform bad in low light compared to other cameras in its class. It does not perform as well as full frame or more professional use cameras, but for its class it performs exceedingly well in low light.

Lag / shutter delay (6)
- Not sure what people mean by this. I haven't had any issues with lag or delay. In fact, the a6000 has the most responsive shutter that I've ever shot with and that's compared to cameras in and out of its class.

So what does this camera have that most cameras in its class do not? I won't discuss them all, but just suffice it to say that everything in this list is either non-existent in the competitor offerings (e.g. Canon APSC) and/or the feature is simply better.

Focus Peaking
Zebras
EVF
4:2:2 Clean HDMI out
XAVC-S Video codec at 50mbs (Version 2.0)
NFC
Wireless
App store
etc.

Take the reviews here (including mine) with a grain of salt. How well a camera performs is very subjective. What works great for a pro, can be "too complicated" for a novice. What makes it great for a novice usually makes it frustrating for a pro. Know your gear and remember to compare cameras within their class. If you're trying to decide between the a6000 and a Canon APSC, get this one. If you're trying to decide between the a6000 and an a7SII or a7RII, then get the more advanced one if you have the money.

Like many things in life, what is important is in the details. Sony has once again produced a great product. The Alpha a6000 produces crisp edges to main focal points. The grab focus feature allows you keep the focus on specific moving objects or persons while filming. However, the quality of built in mic is easily superseded by most built in mics on smart phones. When filming, you get two sound recordings. First is the flat sharp echo tone of the what you are recording, then that is overlapped with the sound of the internal moving parts of the camera. I am guessing it is the motor that adjusts the auto focus. Yes you could put the camera to manual focus, but if your subject is moving, that will complicate things. Also, you can not plug in a standard mic to the camera. There is no port for that. You have to record on a separate system all together. Even if you want to play around with amateur filming, you will have to remove the audio. The recorded sound is that bad. I am sure engineers at Sony already knew this. What is so sad is that someone at Sony decided to almost make the sound feature obsolete. Too bad. Sony has a great name and blunders like this move people in another direction.

Nice, useful camera

Comments about Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera Body (Silver):

It is a nice camera body. I like that it has a viewfinder. Unfortunately I returned it for an a5100, which does not have a viewfinder, though it is nice that it is lighter and even smaller than the a6000. I would recommend the a6000, and am considering getting one for my daughter, who finds my a5100 frustrating without a viewfinder. I like that it has a big sensor (APSC).

Comments about Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera Body (Silver):

Great images for the price, although the sensor is prone to noise even at very low ISO, I have a nikon 7100 same size and same sensor made by Sony and the nikon gives me les noise at the same ISO , Nikon must use different algoritms to prevent that, other than that, size, weight, price and quality of images make it a bargain.

great for video using the gimbal

Comments about Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera Body (Black):

I purchased this camera for it's XAVC-S video capabilities utilizing the 60p @ 50mb for
my gimbal. The colors and image pairs well with my main camera the Sony FS5, I also
have an a6300 but the 1080 60p from that camera is horrible. Anyways the a6000
shoots great video and takes beautiful photos too. At that price point it is a good buy :)

Great camera...mirrorless or otherwise.

Comments about Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera Body (Black):

Bought this for my daugter for a graduation gift. She had been shooting an older dslr I gave to her and really wanted to try mirorless. Since she has shown such a passion for photography (and many pictures better than mine) we bought it. Best choice we made! She loves it and shoots even more now, with even better results. Sharp, great color, and quick focus. The EVF isn't as sharp as the a6300 or 6500, but it sure is cheaper, and gets you what you need to frame good pictures if you don't want to compose on the back screen.

The best C sized interchangeable lens camera you can buy for less than $1000.00. My only minor complaint is that the screen doesn't fully articulate.

COMPACT AND CAPABLE COMPANION

Comments about Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera Body (Black):

Since my main digital camera is a Sony A7, this was a logical choice for something lighter (boy, has the mirrorless revolution spoiled me!) and more inconspicuous as a go-everywhere camera. Controls and functions are nearly identical, which is to say that they are logical and intuitive. Great finder, almost the equal of its big cousin. Excellent image quality, solid construction considering it isn't a pro model. Paired with the 20mm pancake lens, it makes a great combination for those times I can't or don't want to carry a whole bag of stuff. It won't ever replace my film rangefinders, but does make a great digital equivalent for the sort of shooting at which they excel. Highly recommended.

Camera worth buying!

Comments about Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera Body (Black):

My a6000 was shipped quickly with no problems with the packaging. The image quality the pictures take is really worth your time to look at if you've got the right lens. For the price, you get a fair amount of choices if you want to stick to native lenses. While some may argue that the quantity of choices are low, expanding to vintage lenses with the right mount still have a great image quality. If you are a beginner, rest assured knowing that there is a great community of forums that you could explore that could guide you to the choice of lens that is suitable that pair well with this camera.

Comments about Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera Body (Black):

Small, viewfinder and screen, excellent IQ, fast focus, 24 Mpixel is adequate for all normal print sizes. With 20mm lens (30mm eqiv. on full frame) it's very compact and useful for most non-sports photos.

Comments about Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera Body (Black):

This camera is a great! I chose this one instead of the A6500 because I don't seriously shoot video and image stabilization is not worth the extra money for me. I purchased my A6000 with the Sigma 19mm art lens and Sony 50mm OSS, and wow I'm very happy I did not spend the extra $2000 on A6500 and one Zeiss lens. Maybe I'll upgrade in a year but for now this will be my go-to digital.

Switched from DSLR to mirrorless and loving it!

By George

Comments about Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera Body (Black):

I recently decided to get rid of my DSLR and switch over to mirrorless photography. Reason being...the size! As a backpacking enthusiast, a camera's size and weight are most important to me. After lots of research, I found that the a6000 provides a small and lightweight body without compromising image quality. I bought the body without the kit lens, and additionally bought the Sony 35mm 1.8 lens to go along with it. I've used it for landscape photography as well as action shots and portraits, and I'm truly satisfied.
Two cons about this camera: one is the battery life, which isn't great. Definitely need a few spare batteries. Another one is the "wow" factor. If using for photographing events such as weddings or private parties, I feel that DSLRs look like they "fit the part" more than a small mirrorless camera. To the layperson, size often equates to quality and professionalism. However, for my purposes (camping and travel), I could not be happier. 4/5 stars overall because of the battery life.

Impressive camera - excellent value!

By JAK

Comments about Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera Body (Silver):

I bought this camera for my wife who already owns a Sony NX5 and a Sony DSLR. The Alpha 6000 is now her go to camera for just about everything she photographs. All the features of a new DSLR camera but half the weight and size. Blazing fast focus never misses and works with all of her older E lenses and DSLR lenses with the Sony adapter. I elected to get her the gorgeous silver and black finish body that is reminiscent of neo-modern rangefinder camera in the mirrorless package and the fit and finish is excellent. Unlike the Nex 5 the Alpha 6000 incorporates an electronic viewfinder into it's light and compact body that is bright and sharp and a welcome addition over the older Nex 5. Current pricing of the Alpha 6000 is very good for such a feature laden camera and although the newer Alpha 6300 and 6500 may have additional features in more robust packaging you would be hard pressed to find the same value for money! As expected B&H service was excellent and delivery was faster than I anticipated, even with the need to clear customs into Canada.

Fantastic Camera

Comments about Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera Body (Black):

I had this camera converted to full spectrum. I can't say enough good things about it! The compact size makes it easy to carry around. It's also less obtrusive than my DSLR, making it easier to get candid shots. The menus are intuitive and the controls are, for the most part, laid out well enough given the small size of the camera. The only things I don't like are the shorter battery life and the fact that I frequently accidentally turn the mode dial when I mean to change the aperture.

Comments about Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera Body (Black):

A great mirrorless camera. It may be a couple years old at the time of this review, but for $400-500, you really cannot go wrong. It's portable and has ridiculously good IQ with its 24mp sensor. For the budding photographer, this is THE body to get.

Comments about Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera Body (Graphite):

I have the 19/2.8 Sigma and the FE 55/1.8 that I use with the A6000 as a walk-around. Hard to beat this combination on price versus performance.
