While I love this design but will only be keeping it as I was able to modify it. If you notice one thread in these reviews it is that the locking mechanism doesn't close all the way, making it somewhat risky. It does not state on the B&H page that this device is only compatible with the Nano Pole Stand MS049A and the Baby Lightweight Stand. When I google the former all the pages that come up are German and neither is available at B&H. Apparently their adapter spigots are smaller, allowing the locking mechanism to actually close, which it won't do on the standard size spigots that come with the Manfrottos B&H sells, including the Manfrotto Nano Stand 5001B, which I purchased.Following the advice of another review I took a file and filed it down until it would close. Unfortunately I filed it just a wee bit too much and it now will turn on the adapter, which I suspect will only be a problem if it's a little breezy. In sum, GREAT design and solid build... just be prepared to get out a file if you want to use it!

I tried two of these (ordered one, returned it, & tried a 2nd one--returned it)...I really wanted to like this new lightweight tool, as it appeared to have some unique and out-of-the-box thinking that seemed to be an improvement of my existing Manfrotto 026 Swivel Umbrella Adapter....But both Snap Tilthead adapters had the same issues....The locking mechanism, which is a unique design, didn't fit any of my Manfrotto light stands...I read through the enclosed instructions, and it said "Compatible stands are: Manfrotto NanoPole Stand and Manfrotto range of baby light stands".....This is the fine print that doesn't appear on any website....:(...Then when i inserted a Canon 580EXII flash into cold shoe and tightened it down by turning the Tilthead's plastic locking collar, it was difficult at best...The rubber weather protector of my speed flash got in the way, but even when i finally got it tightened, the speed flash would wobble...:(...i discovered later from a youtube review, that there is an small allen screw inside the locking collar (beneath the spring) of the cold shoe, that wasn't tight, which appeared to have caused the wobbliness (quality control issue..??)....But seeing this tiny allen screw was also responsible for securing the weight of my speed flash, didn't give me confidence....Also inside the locking mechanism of the cold shoe is a piece of plastic with threads, which is the unit that secures a speed flash when tightened....It seemed this should be metal, rather than plastic....It seems that this threaded piece of plastic could probably snap with too much pressure over time, from the weight of a speed flash....Also, the umbrella hole holds the umbrella horizontal, rather than at an angle...:(....Really liked the springy counterbalance safety mechanism, but the other weaknesses overshadowed this unique design item for me....Very disappointed in quality of this Manfrotto product...Returned two of them, and went back to the old design of the original 026 Swivel Umbrella Adapter....I did a youtube review, which you can find if you do a search for Manfrotto Snap Tilthead, and Daniel Andries also did an excellent youtube review of this product....(In my listed Cons, this site wouldn't allow me to delete typo of Plastic Threaded Cold Who...Should say "Shoe")

The connection says 5/8 but it will not fit securly on a standard light stand and lock. It will fit but not with the clamp closed.

Find something better...

Comments about Manfrotto Snap Tilthead with Shoe Mount:

I wanted this to work better than it does, and after purchasing it, I certainly agree w the mixed reviews. PROS: great concept and sleek design. CONS: doesn't clamp down on spigot all the way, so light is wobbly when attached. I should have returned it because I don't trust it and for Manfrotto, it should be better.

Almost perfect

Comments about Manfrotto Snap Tilthead with Shoe Mount:

I've owned a couple different speedlight mount adaptors and this Manfrotto has the most reliable cold shoe mount of them all.  With other mounts, I've had my speedlight slip off the cold shoe, even after I secured my flash.  The only thing about the Manfrotto is, you need to make sure the stand you are using is "5/8" Top".

I previously owned a Matthews Reversible Stand, which is great -light, compact.  But this Manfrotto locking mechanism won't securely mount the stand because the male end of the Matthews is "Baby (5/8")" - see below.

Best option to hold a flash and an umbrella.

Comments about Manfrotto Snap Tilthead with Shoe Mount:

Best option to hold a flash and umbrella. I've tried many different options over the years, nothing compares to this. Well designed, keeps the flash secured, instead of the ones that rely on tiny screws to keep it from sliding off. Didn't give 5 stars because I rarely do.

Not right for the Mini Boom Arm 5'3"

Comments about Manfrotto Snap Tilthead with Shoe Mount:

I purchased this Shoe Mount on the recommendation of a B&H online assistance person with the intent of using it to attach a Canon 600 EX-RT, but I couldn't make it work.

So now I'm using a Phottix Shoe Mount.

I like the way the Manfrotto product attaches to the speedlite - screws around the hot shoe and locks it in place.

Comments about Manfrotto Snap Tilthead with Shoe Mount:

The bracket is simply designed to bring your speedlite flash, lighting stand and umbrella together. It's very easy to use and the build quality is quite robust. It's the best bracket of this kind that I could find. I can't fault it!

Comments about Manfrotto Snap Tilthead with Shoe Mount:

I bought 2 of these locally at $40 each; then picked up a $20 off brand for my 3rd flash.
When the price dropped to $29 on this, I immediately bought a third. It is so much more
positive than the other unit I had

    Locks, tilts and is sturdy!

Comments about Manfrotto Snap Tilthead with Shoe Mount:

Well made but not universally adaptable to all stands. The female locking mechanism needs to have stand with a flat side on the post for locking securely. New Manfroto stands have these flats - no one else's does. As a matter of fact my older Manfroto stands don't, my Calumet and Bogen stands (made by Manfroto) don't and my Impact's don't. Someday I'll find a use for this. I threw the packaging away thinking I was fine so I'm stuck with it.

Comments about Manfrotto Snap Tilthead with Shoe Mount:

Easy to use and quick to set up. The jaw is strong and holds the flash firmly and is easy to use with a large and rapid tightening dial.

The tilt adjustment is spring loaded to compensate for the weight of an umbrella and works well. I wish there was a 2 way tilt to allow the flash to tilt in portrait orientation.

The quick release to secure the unit to a stud on a light stand can sometimes be difficult to release but this is a minor issue.

I read a few users complaining that their mounted flash is "loose" or wobbles and unstable. The fix for this is easy and takes a few seconds: Open the jaws of the flash mount complete. Look down that axis. You will see a spring that runs perpendicular. Deep to the spring is an allen key bolt. You can tighten this bolt without removing the spring by passing an allen key between the coils of the spring. Problem solve - rock solid. No more wobbling!

you are going to need to get Manfrotto 119 Female Spigot for 026 1/4-Inch 20 Female and 3/8-Inch Female 31mm Long Adapter

this tilthead requires a light stand end with a flat side for the lock, otherwise it will spin or come off

the flash connecter end is wobbly on the light stand end put holds the flash firmly on the flash end

i like the way i can easily adjust them with one hand (my camera, or something is usually in the other)

                    3 stars for needing attachment
