I have carried this camera with me constantly for one year, Other than my scratching the LCD from my sometimes carrying it in less than ideal circumstances, it's held up nicely. When I first got this camera I hated the menus. HATED them. Then as I became used to it, and granted this took some time, I'm amazed by what I can do with it. I mostly use manual but if I need a fast shot the automatic features are great. The video is to die for with several options. I love combining separate audio with stills and video to tell short stories. Sometimes just fragments from every day life that work because I have the camera with me.

I've used the Cannon 5D. GREAT camera of course, also a pro camera. Much bigger. Love the full frame, nothing compares. But it's something you use when you go out to shoot. It's not real practical to carry about. For kicks I looked at the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX1 Full Frame Compact Digital Camera but even if I could afford it, the lens is bigger and so it'd be harder to carry than the RX100 III. Plus it's so expensive casually carrying it would be hard and the video isn't as good as the RX 100 III. The RX100 III is not cheap, but I take it bike rides in my bag, something I might not dare do with a full frame couldn't do with the DSLR styled Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 Digital Camera, which my husband LOVES and ditched his Cannon T-2i for it, but again, it's big. You take it when you know you'll be taking pictures. Some of my best shots with the RX 100 III is when I didn't know I'd need a camera.

I took a picture today at Newport RI on Christmas, one year exactly since I got this camera. I reached in my pocket and took it out. One of those moments when the sun is right and the camera is with you. I've done a lot of video shorts too with it and like the results. Really, if you're patient and willing to take the manual and learn the menus, it is very versatile and gives fantastic results.

I've been a photographer since 1972; I own many cameras (some of them SONY) and bought the RX-100 in June 2013. For no reason I am aware of, one day in February 2014 I experienced the first major malfunction requiring factory warranty service, replacing the "Mounted C.Board CD-847(S)", whatever that is. A brief search on the internet shows I'm not alone as others have had the same repair. In September 2014 the exact same malfunction has occurred again. I treat my equipment with great care and typically have cameras for decades. This is not a cheap toy and with the timing of the same malfunction I'm now out of the one year warranty period. This is a VERY expensive camera when you consider the cost of maintenance and the downtime experienced while the camera will be out for repair. So, do I trash it or spend several hundred dollars more to repair it, and how long would that repair last? Small camera, great photos - it was a great idea, too bad SONY couldn't produce a camera you can rely on. If you are considering getting this camera, consider how you might feel each time you reach for your camera to take that once in a lifetime photo wondering if this will be the moment it fails. I'm very disappointed with this SONY product; I loved using it and promoted it to all my friends. That was my mistake because this is a camera whose lifespan is measured in months. Whatever you pay for this camera will need to be money you are willing to gamble.

Good alternative to my DSLR when I want a small camera.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 III Digital Camera:

As a pro, this was a downgrade from my DSLR, but with the Zeiss lens, the results are surprisingly good for a point and shoot.
I love being able to carry it in my purse or pocket and get good results, but for a professional shoot would still use my Canon Mark II.
Converting the RAW files was a challenge which required upgrading the operating system on my IMAC.

Great little camera.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 III Digital Camera:

Starting with the Cons: a bit heavy for a point-and-shoot, and as was described, lacks an often times wished for greater telephoto reach - only goes to 70.

Pros: gives great images under a variety of lighting conditions - I wanted it mainly for low light indoor images and it performs well. Has a lot of features, many of which I am still learning about. Pleased with my purchase.

A small gem for work and play

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 III Digital Camera:

I can hardly count all of the wonderful pictures I have taken with this camera. It's small and light enough that I can carry it everywhere, but it also takes great-looking pictures.  The zoom range and the flash are just enough to be effective. I work in PR and I have used this camera for countless social media posts,  portraits, videos and more.  Sony's wireless app for transferring pictures is clunky but it's good enough (I have an iPhone and I wonder whether NFC would provide a better experience for android users).  My DSLR sits on the shelf thanks to this camera.

A Little Powerhouse

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 III Digital Camera:

I came to the RX100 line from a Nikon D7100 mainly looking for a much smaller package to casually carry all the time. Since purchasing the RX100 about a month ago I have done just that. I take it with me almost literally everywhere as it fits wonderfully in a jacket pocket.

My first impression was that it was too small and fragile but I have come to realize this robust little RAW shooter fits the bill wonderfully for anyone that is used to the power of a DSLR looking for a smaller walk around camera. Bottom line... I would recommend this camera to everyone given is great quality and immense flexibility. Special thanks to Sony on this for allowing the new shooting apps to be accessible on the Mark III still keeping it a relevant option even after the release of the Mark V

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 III Digital Camera:

I am a point and click user and need it for my work. I am not the most experienced user and use automatic settings. Size, speed are awesome. Quality is good although I have still not figured out how to optimize my pictures in my bad light settings. I am not happy with the wireless features. They are a bit cumbersome and I m not the biggest fan of their sony software that is required for syncing. Maybe this will change as I gain more experience.

Best Compact Camera for My Needs

By Robert

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 III Digital Camera:

Excellent camera, especially for the size. Fits in a pocket but shoots great photos. Does alright in low light but not as good as larger sensor cameras of course. Wish the zoom range extended further on the long end, maybe to 100 or 120mm but it's totally usable as it is.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 III Digital Camera:

The only reason I gave it a 4 star rating was because I've only had the camera for a couple of weeks and haven't had time to try out all of the bells and whistle that I know are there. For the limited use I've put the camera to I very definitely give it 5 stars and am sure that will be my final rating.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 III Digital Camera:

Does everything I thought it might do. Takes excellent pictures and great features. However it really needs the optional Sony grip because it is so small.
Because of its diminutive size, I take it many more places than my other two APS-C sensor size Sony cameras.
Great clear pop up view finder.

A little bigger than a smart phone but a real camera.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 III Digital Camera:

I have a Nikon 810 that I use for more formal landscapes but I also like to have a camera with me all the time. The RX100iii is comparable in size and weight to my iPhone 6+ but it is a serious camera with a 20 MP sensor and a Zeiss lens. It also does RAW image files and is well integrated with Capture One 9. All of this at a price equivalent to buying a new iPhone. Aesthetically, I enjoy the differences that come from taking informal landscapes versus more formal ones. By doing this, I learn a lot about the way I see. And since I usually use wide angles, the Sony, hand held or on a monopod allows relatively large prints.

Best P+S I've ever owned (so far)

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 III Digital Camera:

I'm a professional photographer, mostly editorial work for publications. Worked 20 years as a newspaper staffer. Now as full time freelancer, I mostly shoot feature stories, travel pieces and a lot of portraits. This is the camera I carry w/me always. Can't tell you how many times I've used it on jobs when I've wanted to be invisible. Besides the compact benefit, the camera does perform like a champ. I shoot RAW mostly manual. Focusing is great, even in low light, the high ISO is awesome. Comfortably you could shoot @ 6400 iso. I usually go up to 8000 iso and I'm fine. Transferring files to my iPhone to upload to deadline clients is a breeze. High quality images. I do have a couple of extra batteries I always carry. Thing is so small that especially doing video the battery drains faster.

Not as great as I thought

By Roz

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 III Digital Camera:

Camera is okay for a point and shoot. The lens really limits what the camera can do. It would not focus at all on any subject within two feet, rendering the "macro" mode totally and completely useless. Honestly my iPhone 6 took better photos which is a shame. I wouldn't recommend this camera.

Not impressed

By Wendy

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 III Digital Camera:

Its an average point in shoot in my opinion, yet I was hoping for a great travel camera ( without having to lug around my Canon 5d M3) . It takes decent pics , but the shutter speed really lags. The video is good in low lighting . The screen, flash, and view fiender that flip out , up etc are very masterfully made. The camera becomes very compact once everything closes up . My concern though is " how long " will these pieces last ? They are made very flimpsy I dont know how much wear and tear it will hold up.

** I just couldn't compromise image quality ! What will you do with a 100 " ok "pics , I d rather have 1 Excellent pic I can enlarge and enjoy

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 III Digital Camera:

this camera is heavy for a point and shoot and somewhat awkward to use.
The screen is not completely utilized to show the image. There is a
black bar at the bottom giving f stop, shutter speed and iso. Totally unnecessary. Finally I don't like the images it produces. It emphasizes
highlights and oversaturates to the point where details are lost in fusion
of color. The autofocus is also slow. My old canon s 95 produced a
more pleasing image although the lens on this camera is somewhat sharper.
