lots of love here

Comments about Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM Lens:

I am just an amateur photographer but wanted a good, versatile wide-angle lens for when we go on vacations or I take landscape shots on our farm. My 50mm prime that I have been using for 7 years has its limitations and it was time to get a new lens for my Canon 5d mark III. This lens gave me some beautiful, sharp photographs and amazing color rendering. I can't give you stats or graphs as that is not the kind of photographer I am, but I can say that I am very happy with this lens. It's sharp throughout and gives a good wide angle with not much bend. It doesn't perform wonderfully in low-light but I was still able to get night shots with just a little blur (and no tripod). These photos were taken at 16mm except the photo with the palm fronds (35mm) and the photo at night (25mm).

This lens is a winner

Comments about Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM Lens:

This is a truly outstanding lens.  I use it with a 5Ds and the match is exceptional.  Sharpness is excellent, with very very minimal softness in the extreme corners at 16mm.  Stabilization is very important with the high resolution sensor of the 5Ds and greatly appreciated.

Very Sharp! Watch out for sample variation.Careful with hood

Comments about Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM Lens:

Really sharp indeed. Corner sharpness is on par with the Sigma 35/1.4ART prime lens which I compared side to side with this one in my studio test. This is remarkable! However, beware of sample variation, as I have come across a couple of copies which has uneven soft corners or chromatic aberration which indicate lens elements that are not perfectly centered and aligned. Also, in my travel use, for a couple of times I accidentally hit the disengage on the lens hood and had the hood come loose. I prefer the traditional lens hood as opposed to these "locking" version.

I needed a wide angle lens after I purchased a full frame Canon camera. I am very pleased with this lens. Sharpness of my pictures is excellent, and focusing is quick.

Great lens for the price and a must have.

Comments about Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM Lens:

This is a very good lens with only slight barrel distortion. The IS is great and allows almost 4 stops below normal handheld. Unless you need to stop action in low light this lens is as good or better than the 2.8.

Awesome lens. Love the wide POV. Sometimes auto focusing is slow if there is a lot in your frame

Comments about Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM Lens:

I purchased this lens a few months ago I cannot say one bad thing about it. I use it on a Canon 5D MK III for landscape images. From f/11 to f/16 this lens will focus all the focus points in my camera. The images are sharp from corner to corner. Don't be fooled by it's cheap price, it is as sharp as any L lens. If you don't need f/2.8 this is the lens you are looking for. You won't regret buying one.

A great wide video lens for the 1DX Mark II

By Sherwin

Comments about Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM Lens:

I have a Canon 1DX Mark II and when I need a wider field because of the 1.3x crop in 4K video, I go for this lens. Also I love the IS (image stabilizer) on it for run and gun filming. Great compliment to my Canon 24-70 f/4 IS when filming without a monopod or any support and still get very stabilized shots. The weather sealing too is welcomed. It's light because it's made out of good quality plastic but slightly longer that my Canon 24-70 f/4 IS. It has internal zoom so it doesn't get any longer.

Comments about Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM Lens:

This is 6th ultra wide angle lens I've used, 4 previous Canons and a Sigma. I consider myself a learner in the use of these lenses. That said, this is the most fun I've had using a lens under 18mm wide.

Great UW Zoom for the money, but not perfect.

Comments about Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM Lens:

I mainly use this lens for landscapes and would have preferred it if Canon made a 16mm prime. You should be aware that 16mm is the focal length that the most work should have been put into making this lens optimal. I say this as there are other 24mm (2x the 24mm f/1.4 II and the 24mm f/2.8 IS), 28mm (2x the 28mm f/2.8 IS and the 28mm f/1.8) and 35mm (2x the 35mm f/2.0 IS and the 35mm f/1.4 II) prime lenses that could be used as alternatives to the 16-35mm f/4 IS. There are no prime lenses from Canon available at 16mm. Yes there is a 14mm f/2.8, but it has a bulbous front element. My main concern is that it has around 3.41% barrel distortion at 16mm. It only has 1.62% pincushion distortion at th3 35mm focal length. Despite these details, if you are looking for a 16mm f/4.0 prime, since one doesn't exist, this is your best alternative. It also happens to do everything between 16mm and 35mm with a constant f/4. It also doesn't have anywhere near as bad vignetting wide open as the new 16-35mm f/2.8 III. Lastly most of the vignetting it has wide open won't be seen if you are doing landscape, cause you'll have it closer to f/8-f/11. If you are shooting with it wide open, you can always correct in Lightroom or Photoshop.
