I bought this tripod as I was traveling by plane to do a backpacking trip in the Grand Canyon. Havasupai Falls. I had to pack light and I knew I would be in the water a lot with my tripod with rough or uneven terrain. I very happy with the stability it promised for the weight it can handle. I used it for long exposures for shooting moving water. It proved to be what they advertised.

I am a professional architectural photographer with over 20 years experience and can say this is one of the only products I would take the time to warn others about not buying. Why would I warn you? Because in the 3 months since I have owned this tripod I have lost 2 lenses and one camera to this poorly designed product (17-40, 24-70 and 5d mark II)...in THREE separate incidents, total cost of repairs was over $. To keep that in perspective in my 20 years of professional work I have had one camera fall off a tripod...well the tripod fell actually. The main culprit is the mounting plate. It is difficult to get the camera to seat properly, so if you are not super careful it will only partly lock into place, causing at an unexpected moment the camera to launch off the tripod and onto the ground. Also the rubber feet can come off if you are not careful. When a rubber foot comes off, the lower tripod leg can get "jammed" up inside, at that point there is no way to get it out, without using a star tool. So unless you are caring the correct tool you are out a tripod.

Tripod outstanding, Ball head the worse. Tried with RX10 lll where the ball head would not hold. Had to lock high allowing for slippage. From a travel standpoint, compacts easily to a small package

Comments about BeFree Compact Travel Carbon Fiber Tripod (Black):

I am loving this tripod. It is very stable, packs up into a minuscule footprint on your gear and is mechanically very sound (no play once you set the leg locks accordingly).

I definitely recommend this for loaded (up to 200mm) DSLR/CSC rigs but would be hesitant to dump anything larger on it.

Comments about BeFree Compact Travel Carbon Fiber Tripod (Black):

I use this product for macro photography. I can set it up very quickly and it is easy to operate. I plan to use it for any time I need to shoot at a very low speed and when I shoot multiples photos to blend as layers in Photoshop: panoramas, HDR, etc.

It is not very sturdy but it is sturdy enough....for what is meant for it is, probably, as sturdy as it could possibly be made.

I love it!!!

Comments about BeFree Compact Travel Carbon Fiber Tripod (Black):

I do a lot of hiking and nature photography. So I was looking for a lighter tripod to take along on my trips. The Befree Compact Carbon Fiber sounded like it fit the bill. I've used it for several weeks now.

The tripod is about a pound lighter than any of my others. I have used it with a range of cameras from my super light mirrorless to my 6+ pound magnesium body medium format film camera. It does the its job well. However the medium format camera does take it to the limits of its ability to hold the camera steady in a breeze-center column down and last section of legs not extended does help improve stability with heaver cameras or long lenses.

This is my fourth Manfroto tripod. I use them all- from studio to field and video as well. The camera plate and clamp are the usual Manfroto design. With the proper attention to detail to ensure that the plate is correctly positioned and the clamping cam is securely shut, it will not let go of your camera or lens as some have suggested. The only thing I miss with this head is the fact that the clamp will not lock open like some of their clamps will. It does lock closed automatically though, preventing accidental tripping of the release.

The tripod is everything I expected and more from a carbon fiber travel tripod. If you use it as intended as a lightweight tripod, be mindful of the limitations of any lightweight tripod and use proper attention to detail when securing your valuable camera and/or lens, I think you'll like it too.

Comments about BeFree Compact Travel Carbon Fiber Tripod (Black):

I use tripods on the regular, and this is just beautiful. I love everything about it. Everything about the design is just fitting. I noticed that there is a slight wobble when you're on the tallest setting of the tripod, but it's not a deal breaker. This thing is so light that I take everywhere I go.

Light, Compact, but Cheapy.

Comments about BeFree Compact Travel Carbon Fiber Tripod (Black):

This tripod is pretty light as I expected.
However, it looks a bit cheap.
Locking parts and head's plastic parts are cheapy.
The centre pole it still Aluminum, not carbon.
Folding legs looks cool, but not really easy to use. Spreading leg locker also not very precise.
You'd better go to "Manfrotto MT190CXPRO4 Carbon Fiber Tripod(head not included)" which is similar price, taller, and all carbon unless you really care about compact size.

Great small compact tripod perfect for photos. I wouldn't recommend for video.

Also the ballhead that comes with it is extremely basic and not real useful.

Very light for travel but a bit too flexible.

Comments about BeFree Compact Travel Carbon Fiber Tripod (Carbon):

I purchased this tripod for a client shoot at various airport terminals throughout the US. Although, it was perfect for checking I found it very sensitive to vibration and legs would flare if any downward pressure was applied to camera. I'm guess this would be better suited to outdoor / rough ground as the legs constantly move on smooth surfaces if any pressure is applied. Overall impression, light, nice design but lower legs too thin for long exposure or when stable shooting is needed.

Great Tripod !!!

Comments about BeFree Compact Travel Carbon Fiber Tripod (Black):

It is very light and easy to carry. I purchased it for a European trips and used it last week for the first time and found it comfortable to carry all day. It comes with a lightweight durable case that has a strap you can simply carry over your shoulder and hardly know you have it. It folds up very compact and takes little room in a suitcase being transported. It has a lever that locks the leg in the tripod position and did experience one not staying locked as I moved it so not sure if I just did not get it in a secured locked position or it somehow works itself out of the locked position.
Very happy thus far ,! If you are looking for a light compact tripod you should consider this one.

A gem for smal but serious cameras and their users

Comments about BeFree Compact Travel Carbon Fiber Tripod (Black):

I should start by saying that I have used Manfrotto tripods for 25 years with mainly analogue medium format cameras, Bolex 16mm and 35mm gear. I bought this travel tripod for a planned 1-2 years of travelling with a small digital camera setup. I just spent a month in Joshua Tree using it and absolutely loved it. Sure, like other reviewers have mentioned there are trade offs compared with a studio Manfrotto tripod, but nothing that isn't worth it to gain the super light weight. It is my new favourite and in general I hate tripods!

Light and compact but not very sturdy.

Comments about BeFree Compact Travel Carbon Fiber Tripod (Black):

I was looking for something lightweight that folds small and can be easily carried when hiking or traveling. This one is definitely lightweight but it lacks the stability I was looking for. It feels cheap made to me with too much plastic on it. It felt like I was going to break the plastic ball head in order to tighten it enough to hold my 3 pound camera setup. Too expensive for such a weak tripod. I returned it.

DON'T USE THIS TRIPOD!

Comments about BeFree Compact Travel Carbon Fiber Tripod (Black):

I have had the most shocking experience with this tripod. I have been a professional photographer for over 20 years and i have never encountered a tripod as terrible as this Manfrotto. I was realizing a 33 year dream to trek and photograph the Himalayas and decided to go for this lightweight carbon fibre tripod. I have previously used Manfrotto's and they have been great but this one was a disaster. Similar to what one of the other Professional Photographers experienced, the main problem is the mounting plate and especially the locking mechanism. Twice my camera fell off the tripod and i was very lucky that there was no damage to my Nikon D700 camera or lens.  And the worst was that after a few days of using the tripod, the locking latch just broke off!  So, i could not use the tripod. And this is a Manfrotto product, really? On my return from my 5-week trip, i complained to B and H, and they told me that my 30-day return policy was over! What? How could i have returned the tripod from the Himalayas! I am now being asked to contact the manufacturer and hoping that they will replace it with a better product.   Please don't order this tripod!
